Fred! Nice to see you found the site, although I prefer to be remembered for something better than a sheepherder! Low and behold, 100 years later, I'm living in Big Timber, Montana and their mascot is a crappin' Sheepherder! And they're proud!! They're all Norwegian, so I rest my case. Last time I saw you was in Germany. I was getting ready to go home. Got to report that Capt. Gilfoyle really made it - he was my A.C. on the 495. Sgt Meeks? I haven't heard. But I sent Froggie some pics a while back. Also sent some to Mr. Jobe. I'm pretty illiterate on this web thing too - good to have a wife taking care of me!?!?!? Reunion info will be coming one of these days - see you in Phoenix in June?? If you're really in the Netherlands - you might want to start swimming now. Will keep in touch! God Bless everyone. Ron (never wanted to be a Sheepherder)

Hello My Brothers,My name is Fred Skaggs,It`s wonderful to have found this site. I Was wondering, if anyone out there remenbers me? I was with the 129th from March 1970 to February 1971.I was a Gunner on slicks for 2nd platoon. My C.C.were Debates(Sheepherder),Curt Frank, Bill Peknold, Pete Rhome, Ron Ingemunson, Charlie Solomon(asshole ex-marine). My A.C.were Weaver(Spud),Joey Priebe, Jobe,Muirhead(Cherry),Wightman, and Masencup(Cups). I`ve been living in Europe, since retiring as a public servant for the City of Columbus,Ohio. The Netherlands, fit my lifestyle much better than home. Please tell me if Cap.Gilfoyle ever made A.C.? ( I hope not!!!).And I still think Sgt.Meeks was a asshole.(God rest his soul by now). I`ve made contact with Brother Rhome, and Cups. I would love to hear from Brothers from the unit. So I will close this with, GOD BLESS AMERICA and THE BROTHERS OF THE 129TH. PEACE and LOVE,(maybe!!!). Fred Skaggs

Bulldog Flight, Lurch breaking radio silence! Damn, I've had a hell of a time finding you guys. My computer went down last May, it went in like a Huey with a transmission failure! Total loss! I have since purchased a newer model and Frog has told me some guys have been asking where I had disapeared to, well it has to do with my being illiterate in computerese or . . . well there probably is only the one factor that has prevented me from signing on prior to today! I was doing some book keeping and bill paying today which took me online and just for kicks I decided to once again attempt to find the home of the BULLDOGS and COBRAS . . . well low and behold I must have done somethin' right cause here I am! To Larry Thies!!!!!!! Damn is it ever good to hear from you. I wrote to you some 2-3 years ago at the address listed in the VHPA directory, but since I got no answer I figured you were busy or had put those days we spent together behind you and really didn't want to hear from me. It does this old grey beard good to know that you have remembered me over these years, I can tell you that I have always and continue to think of you often. I'm not sure I can tell many war stories without "Thor" entering the picture. Its the same with Frog, Tadpole, St. Nick, Spoon, Baccer, Mr. Lance, Christian, Pantyhose, and of course Gary Conley, JJ, and Shaky, along with so many other guys! I'll be sending you a direct e-mail to talk over old times. For now, it is just good to know you and all the other guys who keep this site alive are out there. Some days I awake to an incredibly empty feeling -- then I realize its the place that was filled by my friends from the 129th AHC! Frog would tell me that is enough of the sentimental bullshit, so I'll sign off for now! Lurch, out.

One of the spin off's from the airline shutdown.....there is one hell of a bunch of lobsters for sale, cheap! AC and Bob were a couple of the friendliest juicers in the unit! Always had a cold one laying around, and, some good tunes nearby, so long as you liked country! Too bad the man is black has parkinson's, the country could use a few of his tunes about our ragged old flag. Kim

A.C., welcome to the site! I see from Kim's message that you know Bob Mace. I tried to organize a reunion a couple years ago, and Bob Mace replied. We kept in touch by phone for about a year, but I haven't heard from him in a while. Last known address was: 204 First Ave. E. Crestview, FL. 32536 (850) 689-3097 After I read this tonight, I left a message on his machine. Hope to hear from him and get him hooked up with the site. Isn't this something else? Take care. Ron

Has anyone actually seen Mark and Dee since Kokomo? When they arrived there on Saturday they had their bike and didn't want to drink and drive so they followed Joe and I to our hotel to drop of their bike. We had told them that we would give them a ride back to the hotel later that evening(we weren't drinking). Well, after waiting an hour for Mark(not Dee, she always looks good)to prep himself(Marines@#!!!@), the wind was taken out of our sails and Joe and I became very tired. The four of us went back to the reunion(a must for all of you!!) and shortly afterward Joe and I decided to call it a night. This left Mark and Dee to use the public transit authority to get back to the hotel.....I guess I'm just wondering if they're still on that bus. Gently

Amen Kim!! I was thinking today that if given an old "B" model with the XM-16 'system' of outboard M60's and 2.75" rockets, most of us would go once more to do our thing just to spare the kids (if we could get someone to help us into the seats). First run, 4-M60's blazing away. Second run, 2 or 3 M-60's still working. 5th run, .38's blazing away out the windows. Thank God for the door guns/gunners. Saved all our butts. This is going to be a tough one. Getting in will be real easy. Getting the real bad guys hiding in their holes behind their starving women and children will be harder. Getting out could be hell. Let's hope the intell is a hell of a lot better than it was last week and pray for the kids who get tapped to get the job done. Cobra Soothsayer 67-68 Guns long since cold

It's my fervent hope that the folks in Washington have learned the lessons of Vietnam, nad Somalia too, for that matter. Put together a clear mission, plan an extraction strategy, go in and get the job done, with the right weapons, and get out when the job is done! I don't care for boy georgie's politics, but, I do have faith that he's surrounded himself with some good military minds, people who know how to get a job done, with as few casualties as possible. it's great to see all the patriotism. A little scary to hear all the stay-at-home's screaming for blood. I know more than a few draft dodger's, who are singing a different tune, now that they're too old to serve.............for our kids who will be going, I say, good training, good equipment, good luck....It's your turn... 212 inbound, going hot........Kim

I am doing the best I can to keep the vets at our VA calm but it's hard when I am so damned angry myself.--- This article was written by Leonard Pitts for the Miami Herald & about says it all-----------------Published Wednesday, September 12, 2001 We'll go forward from this moment It's my job to have something to say. They pay me to provide words that help make sense of that which troubles the American soul. But in this moment of airless shock when hot tears sting disbelieving eyes, the only thing I can find to say, the only words that seem to fit, must be addressed to the unknown author of this suffering. You monster. You beast. You unspeakable bastard. What lesson did you hope to teach us by your coward's attack on our World Trade Center, our Pentagon, us? What was it you hoped we would learn? Whatever it was, please know that you failed. Did you want us to respect your cause? You just damned your cause. Did you want to make us fear? You just steeled our resolve. Did you want to tear us apart? You just brought us together. Let me tell you about my people. We are a vast and quarrelsome family, a family rent by racial, social, political and class division, but a family nonetheless. We're frivolous, yes, capable of expending tremendous emotional energy on pop cultural minutiae -- a singer's revealing dress, a ball team's misfortune, a cartoon mouse. We're wealthy, too, spoiled by the ready availability of trinkets and material goods, and maybe because of that, we walk through life with a certain sense of blithe entitlement. We are fundamentally decent, though -- peace-loving and compassionate. We struggle to know the right thing and to do it. And we are, the overwhelming majority of us, people of faith, believers in a just and loving God. Some people -- you, perhaps -- think that any or all of this makes us weak. You're mistaken. We are not weak. Indeed, we are strong in ways that cannot be measured by arsenals. IN PAIN Yes, we're in pain now. We are in mourning and we are in shock. We're still grappling with the unreality of the awful thing you did, still working to make ourselves understand that this isn't a special effect from some Hollywood blockbuster, isn't the plot development from a Tom Clancy novel. Both in terms of the awful scope of their ambition and the probable final death toll, your attacks are likely to go down as the worst acts of terrorism in the history of the United States and, probably, the history of the world. You've bloodied us as we have never been bloodied before. But there's a gulf of difference between making us bloody and making us fall. This is the lesson Japan was taught to its bitter sorrow the last time anyone hit us this hard, the last time anyone brought us such abrupt and monumental pain. When roused, we are righteous in our outrage, terrible in our force. When provoked by this level of barbarism, we will bear any suffering, pay any cost, go to any length, in the pursuit of justice. I tell you this without fear of contradiction. I know my people, as you, I think, do not. What I know reassures me. It also causes me to tremble with dread of the future. In the days to come, there will be recrimination and accusation, fingers pointing to determine whose failure allowed this to happen and what can be done to prevent it from happening again. There will be heightened security, misguided talk of revoking basic freedoms. We'll go forward from this moment sobered, chastened, sad. But determined, too. Unimaginably determined. THE STEEL IN US You see, the steel in us is not always readily apparent. That aspect of our character is seldom understood by people who don't know us well. On this day, the family's bickering is put on hold. As Americans we will weep, as Americans we will mourn, and as Americans, we will rise in defense of all that we cherish. So I ask again: What was it you hoped to teach us? It occurs to me that maybe you just wanted us to know the depths of your hatred. If that's the case, consider the message received. And take this message in exchange: You don't know my people. You don't know what we're capable of. You don't know what you just started. But you're about to learn.

Flight: With the permission from Cups. I donated 129th and VHCMA reunion t-shirts that Liz and accumulated over the last 10 years to the NYC donation drive here. I had about a dozen of the VHCMA and the 129th t's that I had made. Plus about a dozen that cups sent me. At first I was concerned about the logo on the back.(YOU CALL WE KILL COBRAS). To my surprise the Nam vets and the public whom were collecting the donations stated the 129th t-shirts said it all. As I was leaving the lot a huge truck pulled with a load of T-Shirts. Well flight lets get out and give what you can. And I would like to say that I am proud to have all of you as my BROTHERS AND SISTERS. Not only are you 129th but real americans. Thanks for being here for me. Alex
