Hi Christina, according to the 129th rosters, your uncle was there...I believe 6-67 to 6-68. I was there at that time, but,the name dosen't ring a bell. Maybe someone on here remembers him. Mark, how 'bout you & me setting a date (and a place)somewhere in Indy and the rest can follow suit? A Cracker Barrel would be nice.......maybe on West 38th....unless you prefer something or somewhere else? The Vets Day at Golden Corral isn't until the week after Vets Day and they would be awfully busy, plus, I think it said the hours would be 6-9pm for the free meal. Gale

Mark,.. It is funny that after looking at the Google Earth pictures of the northwest area of Lane earlier today and seeing what appeared to me to look like tank/heavy equipment tracks all over the landscape that the fellow that has been there said that it has been used as a armor training base. There doesn't look like any signs of aircraft type parking reventments there now and I really can't recall if there were any in that area back in 68. The area in the pictures on Google look like the area where the Hook company was located, 198th, if I recall correctly.. It would seem to me that the church and some other big things in the area should be able to be seen even though the details in the pictures is pretty washed out, and if the aircraft maintainance hanger was still standing that it ought to be standing out.. Oh well.. Maybe we will be able to tell more if they ever get better pictures of the area. As far as the readouts on the locations goes, there are several ways that they read and mark maps, D,M,S and D,M and 1/100ths of mins. ect. and then there is D, M, S and tenth/hundredths of seconds.. It is all in the interpretation and selection of which is chosen on the display. I think that even Google Earth gives you a choice for displaying it as you prefer. However, we all are pretty close considering the quality of the displays we have to go with... L8r.. Kal...>>>

Larry, on my Google earth I have Lane at 13 Degrees 48'44.62 North and 106 degrees 05' 44062 East. That is by the numbers that you get at the LH bottom of the Google earth site. Let me know if you see it. As far as I can see, the most part of Lane is not in focus. The only part that is appears to be just the Northeast section where you can see what appears to be reventments or buildings or something. I have a map of the AO that I have scanned that shows Lane and then put in on the Google map and had to stretch it, twist it, pull it, and turn it and you can come pretty close to making it all out. I will try and see if I can send you that scan via email and you can see if you can put it on Google. Not sure if you can...............good to see you post...............always a brother

Smitty the economy is still pretty good here in New Jersey. The only one`s out of work are "Wall Street"people. Last year my wife and I move our investments into bonds and certificates....low yield, but safe. The "old wealth" is doing OK, but these young types who bought the 5 million dollar homes are starting to sweat. And they don`t have the survival skills. Me.... working for a "non-profit" church organization is recession proof. And being a maintenance man, you fix things instead of buying new. We do have to buy new hot water heaters when they go, that`s about the only thing we are buying. My wife works for a Swedish company and they don`t belong to the EU, so their economy is holding up. I wanted to go back to Ohio this year and retire for good, but we figured we better ride this out here in Jersey. You guys are all mechanically inclined and will be the ones who survive......it will get worst before it gets better. Tell ya what, Iraq has a friggin 78 billion surplus......we need get some of that money back. And pray that China don`t "call in the markers" on that 500 billion we owe them. We indirectly fought China in Nam...now we owe them friggin money........SORRY Mark, it ain`t political, I`m friggin bummed out with the situation. It`s like oweing money to a loan shark or dope dealer.....kind of stuff that will get you killed.

Art, Bro I understand even not having as many problems as you have going on. Now that my wife & I are raising two 13 year old grandkids and seeing that parents in their thirties don't have it together anymore. We stay broke & she is still handing out money to her son's. I do believe in giving someone a helping hand when they are down but today too many are just lazy. I still get mad at her youngest son's ex-wife because she got a guy about five years younger than her and had two more kids. He is worthless and stays in her HUD home free while not giving her money. I know you must feel like shooting your son-in-law as I do with this guy. She is still close to the family but my wife keeps telling her to get a job and kick him to the crub. I know before my health went to crap I just worked my butt off but was too busy to get mad. Now I have to deal with anger for the past five years living with consent pain and fighting every system out there. It has left me not trusting Attorney's & Doctors as they screw me around. My wife's brother in Florida lost his wife several years ago and still has her side of the bed just as she left it. So with his cancer he still feels like he has to keep fighting to take care of his son's. The youngest was thirteen when his mom died and is just starting college this fall. Bub has just finished a deal where both of his son's will have a house when he is gone. So Art you keep going too because it sounds like your work here on earth is far from over too. I know my grandson's give me a reason to keep going till I am a hundred!!

Not much going on here, started a Coping with Pain Group at the VA this week. It was another interesting angle on the system by hearing others talk about their own situations with the VA & Social Security. The lady who heads the group has been with the VA for over twenty years and said the Social Security Office here seems to have it in for Vets. My computer is about all back together and my memory is still shot. In Kokomo Mark was playing old music. Can remember the songs but can't remember the groups. Sam had presented a wreath from the 129th at the Wall and we took pictures of the four of us with it. He will be putting them on the web soon. They also may make Reno. What a day! Just wanted to let you know that our computer tech who cleaned up our many viruses loaded the antivirus program Avast on ours. You can go to www.avast.com and it is free. All you have to do is register the program once a year. It updated every night and loads any patches needed. Once we figured out we had big problems, we didn't turn it on again until we took it in. Thankfully we're fine now. Jim

Jim, same thing here and always wonder where it came from. I am still installing software on my computer as I just hit the start over button. I am not sure what software is the best either because the first thing they do is attack the antivirus programs. I think most of us would just like to get our hands on the people that do this crap to mess up peoples lives. I was able to grab the important stuff off before it went nuts. Hope no one else gets the bug..

Just an update. Our McAfee didn't work right, and viruses had attacked our computer. If it says "Monster Virus is attacking your computer", you already are infected. The first indication we had that we were in trouble was when it said to "download Virus Protection Pro 2009" (which we didn't do). Fortunately, we caught it in time and took it to someone who could clean it up. We're in Hudson visiting our daughter and 11 week old grandson, but when we get home, I'll post the antivirus that our guy said is one of the best virus protection as far as he's concerned, and it's free. We're good to go again. Jim

But, I am in for the haul. It's got to get better. we made it through a tour of vietnam. And some of us more than one. But, there isn't a day goes by that I don't remember the Brothers that didn't come home. We were in our teens and twenties then. and 50's and 60's now. It's been a wild ride in the last 10 years of reunions. Meeting so many of you that served in the 129th. And, the Family and friends whom became part of my Family. One day there won't be any of us left. And, the 129th will be just a part of history of the Vietnam war. Always A Brother!! Gently keep us updated on 2010 and hopefully 509. Ron, it would be my honor to auction the bracelet off at Christmas, I have one concern though: in our auctions many of our friends and brothers are left out of the bidding for financial reasons so I would like to propse that we sell raffle tickets. That way even the purchase of just one ticket allows for the possibility of winning the bracelet. Could I have feedback on this idea from all of you. Ron DeBates.......Brother my prayers are with you and Jamie, I`ll give you a phone call later on today. Kim LaVoie, Fred Brown and I were talking about you the other day, wondering where you were had been. Looks like I`ll be calling you at some point today also. I`m in Columbus,Ohio for a funeral of a cousin who died with "colon cancer" Friday morning, he was just 65 years old and a Nam Vet......I`m at my brother`s house in Ohio........POLITICS......I think the last 8 years, speaks for itself.....Thankfully my wife Kim, understood the stockmarket and moved all our investments into safer low yield stuff, but we didn`t take a "hit" like some folks did......Thank God, we didn`t move SS into the stockmarket.

Ron & Jamie, I'm sorry to hear that you guys are having trouble with your health. Our prayers go out to you both. Get healthy and we'll see you guys at a reunion! Gale & Debbie Flight, my hand is doing better....healed up, but, still sore. Looking at my hands; have you ever thought about where your hands have been? I watch the HGTV show "If Walls Could Talk" ,but, just think...."If Hands Could Talk." My hands have cleaned bricks, carried hod, worked on greasy old cars, worked on helicopters, held & fired guns, lifted quite a few beers (and still lifting),operated a whole lot of machinery, been in fights, made love, pumped gas, wiped my a**, explored the female body, shook hands, give the "finger", shaved my face, patted backs, picked my nose, rendered a salute......where does it end? I've had an index finger on my right hand smashed on the end, my thumb on my left hand almost cut off and now my pointing finger damaged. Help me out here guys...........it's amazing what these things have been through! Yeah, I've had a few brewskies...so what!? Humor me!!! Gale 67-68

Morning Flight! We will continue to intend to use these as a fundraiser for the 129th, funds to be used wherever best decided. Jamie bought a couple bracelets a few years ago and loves them. In light of everything we've been through this past summer, and her second chance at life, we want to help every one we can. Anyone who chooses not to participate - just like gambling - we are not offended and it's their personal choice. We know this can work and will talk to you Mark directly about getting this project going. Have a great weekend all. Ron

Frankly speaking, Ron, I got shafted on an item I bought during the Christmas auction a couple years ago. It won't happen again. Please don't take this as me saying you would do the same. I do believe your heart is in the right place. Sue Alvis, the picture you drew is still hanging on my wall. I'll always treasure it.

We are having problems with Antivirus 2009 Pro that keeps popping up on our computer. Now Windows is saying that the 129th site contains malicious spyware. Has anyone else had problems? Jim

Hello Flight! Been quite a while since I've posted but monitor all the time. Hope this finds everyone well. It's been a long summer - Jamie was diagnosed in June with Leukemia. She hit remission in 37 days and is looking forward to finishing daily chemo around November 1st. This strain has a 93% cure rate so our prayers are certainly being answered. We should be healed in ready to meet up with you in Reno in 2009. I would hope some would stop through here on their way to the reunion. We live spitting distance from I-90. For all those coming East to West - stop for a cold one! Smitty knows where it's at - bring him along!! Was looking at the reunion photos in the newsletter and see they had a tail rotor bracelet. I still have the one from 495 that went down with me in it. I have that chain - it's 18 in long. What can we get for it for a fundraiser?? Might get someone to the reunion that couldn't otherwise go. Let me know!! Stay healthy. Ron

I would like to take this time to tell each and everyone of you that I thank you for not bringing politics into this room. Lord knows that there would be plenty to talk about. Again, THANKS to ALL of you for respecting our brothers that don't have the privlage to speak any more. I am sure that they do hear, and see, every word that is said in here. God Bless you all.............God Bless America...........always a brother...........

Knowing you I'm sure that injured finger was simply a hang nail..you embellish so much all the time..LOL! We really missed being there..."Dustoff"..next year. And just for that, Joe and I won't join you at your mini..not that you really care! he he. Wolf, will get you the addy ASAP so you can send the book out. Ray....you out there? May 21st of 2010 were planning a BIG "Welcome Home Vietnam Vets" at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Yes, that is where the Packers play football. So pencil in the date and I'll keep you updated on it..rooms will be scarce, just so you know. 30-40 thousand bikes, parade, maybe Simon's huey(which he can then take to the "Wall" for Memorial Day) fly over of T-28's(Planes we used in Laos when we weren't there) and more. Goodmorning Flight: Hope everyone is doing OK!! Well, was an emotional day last friday. Gary met me in Marion Ark. From there we proceeded to Mark Tree Ark. with 4 buses of 1st Cav. and about 100 bikes along with the patriot guard. The overpasses were filled with school children of all ages waving American flags. Once, we arrived at LZ Mark Tree we lead a parade through town. Pepole lined the streets to honor the Vietnam Vets. It was the ( Parade that We Never got when we came Home!! ) But, Gary and I finally got that experience. Some of the Cav. were at LZ X Ray in 1965. It was a great experience. Just wished all of you could have been with us. Always A Brother!!
