I do agree with what he was trying to say, though. I won't go into my feelings about the cabal ruining our country. I think he could have chosen his words more carefully, or used another analogy to make his point. Unfortunately, his words have given a political opening for the r's to exploit.

heard it on the news...man, did he screw up!!!! Regardless of what he may have been trying to convey, he certainly didn't think before he spoke. I think there are as many reasons for people to join as there are people, some very smart ones who can't afford college, some dedicated to service to our country, some running away from a short term pain, and lots in between.....whatever their reasons, we owe them a huge thank you!

what show was he on? I don't want to make any comments without knowing what was said.... As for Iraq, isn't it funny that this administration sneered at Clinton for "nation building" in the balkans, then tried to create democracy by force of arms. In my humble opinion, we should have either left Iraq alone, or at worst, gone in and defeated saddass, then split in favor of killing bin laden's minions. That's the real sad fact, we're bogged down in that s*** hole, and can't go after the terrorists in Somalia and elsewhere.

Not wanting to go into politics too much, but just got in and turned on the TV to see Kerry's comments about if you study hard you may not end up in Iraq. Than his latest statement made my blood boil. My youngest son was in the Army on 911 and he had A's & B's in school and got a higher GT score than I did. From what I hear it is still hard to pass the test and get in the service. Did he forget there is no draft and kids enlisting are not always drop outs. I hope I am not the only one out there to feel this is another Jane Fonda comment.....

Hey Bill Wolf....the History that you see on the 129th web page came from the National Archives. I sent for it about 8 years ago and thats all they had in the files. Unless some how they found more since then but I doubt it. I wish we would have a Unit Histirian sign in. To the best of mu knowledge there was a person assigned each year as one...............

Rain,rain,rain,rain,rain,rain,rain....here in Ohio. All day and night. Just got back from the Football game. Coldwater won. 10-0 again this year.First playoff game will be a home game..........after eating out with the grandkids and playin' round a bits I always head for the game. usually get there 3rd or 4th quarter. It was the 4th quarter tonight. Score was 13 to 6 in favor of Coldwater but Delphos St. Johns was driving to the end zone. The players were drenched and covered with mud. Steam shot out of their mouths every breath they took. I always stand at the east end zone. That is the one the plays were comeing at. Ball got down to the 20 and as usual I move closer to the field. Tonight I was leaning against the goal post as the ball was being moved closer each play. I love to go down that close to hear the crack of the pads and the grunts. At time s I can here a sound that I have never forgot while I played. That is the sound of a players cleats sliding across the top of the wet blades of grass. Kinda makes a ticking sound as each blade slides underneath the cleat. Delphos scored to make it 13 to 12 Coldwater but the extra point was blocked. I started over to the other end zone thinking that Coldwater would drive and score. But Coldwater got the kickoff and went 4 and out. I started to head back to the east end-zone but Delphos fumbled. I stuck around and sure enough Coldwater scored on a 20 yard run. I was 10 feet from the celebrating players. You guys recall some of your battles in Vietnam, I recall some of mine on the grid iron. Not to pat myself on the back, but I played a good game. I fumbled my books on the way home from school but could hold on to the football pretty good. Led the county in scoring my JR year of 68.I know, some of you guys were leading a charge against the VC in 68.The stadiem I was at tonight was brand new my SR year. We lost the 1st game played there 28-0. The team that beat us went on to be undefeated that year. We went 7-2-1. After that game I hung around to watch the goings on. Players celebrating, fans doing the same. Where I was standing is where the players make the walk back to the locker room. First the players came by. Then the band. The some of the coaches. Actually some of the coaches are guys I went to school with and played ball with, so I congratulated them as they came by. One of the coaches passed me and I told him . " Good Job". He said thanks and turned and walked away. Soon he came back and taped me on the shoulder and told me that he just wanted to tell me that he chaperoned the 8th grade to the annual Washington DC trip this week and that his daughter was in his group. I told me that he stopped at the WALL and saw Larry. I hear that every year after the 8th grade trip from some one. When ever they go the WALL is a main attraction and Larry is always looked up by many. I thanked him for stopping to see Larry and told him how much it meant to him, the rest of the guys and also you guys. Not only do they see Larry but they walk the walk of all of other brothers of yours that are there. I thought of how I used to feel after the game. Al banged up and battered, but man was that a good feeling. Win or lose. It just felt great to take a hard hit back then. Then I started to think of how when I was out on that field back in 68 some of you guys were bleeding in Vietnam. Were was my head at then? After football season was over my SR. year, I Left school, went to work for Dad and in September Larry was killed. I joined the Marines at that time to get even with the Lil' People. Went to boot camp in Feb of 70..........anyways, I hung around the field to see if I could catch the head coach as he walked buy. He was the last one walking alone. I know him well, matter of fact, I attend 2 Bible studies that he leads during the week. He was glad to see me and we hugged. I told him "Job well done"....He wanted to know if I was in the end zone and if I head the pads? I had told him before that that is where I stand.................I was here, you guys were scattered all over the country and the world back then. Now we all come together here for brotherhood. I had Friday night lights. You had Friday night flares and green tracers.............thanks you guys, for taking me in and shielding me under your shadows of your outstretched arms............Have I told you that I loved you lately?...................Thanks is not enough to say, but I think you guys know what I mean and where my heart is at. You are, and will forever and ever by on my mind daily. A day does not pass that you haven't crossed my mind through out the 24 hours....... sorry guys, just ramblin'.......sometimes I come here just to be near you guys..................always a brother.......

I have not seen a Dr in over a year. I guess they are waiting for me to go off the deep end before they do anything for me. I may not go off the deep end but I am ready to start yelling to see if the squeaky wheel really does get the grease. Later, Don

Have been reading of some having birthdays. My wife and I celebrated 40 years of marriage on the 22nd. Not bad for Nam, alcoholism, and the loss of a child. All of which take a heavy toll on a marriage. On the 23rd I celebrated my 60th birthday. Now I can eat senior meals at a large reduction and another year closer to retirement. Other than that I can't think of one good thing about getting older. Flame

Having said that, I still make my own decisions after listening to them and researching the issues myself. The VA can be a valuable asset, but the last word belongs to us. Hello flight, 2 more weeks before I complete my PTSD program, at Perry Point, Md. This past weekend as part of the recovery ,we visited the wall in DC. It was the 36th anniversary of George Hains tail rotor accident. I offered a prayer and a slow hand salute for him, as did many others as I said my farewell. I tryed to find as many 129ers as I could, I especially stopped to pay my respect to Larry Jackson, I told him of marks never-ending quest to keep his memory alive and the 129 as a whole. A special slatue to both Larry, and Mark for his time, sweat and tears to keep this site going. AS I told our fallen 129ers as I left the wall, till we meet again

Many of us go to VA for different reasons. If you have a claim...you must go to them to keep that claim alive...if you need meds...the prices are hard to beat..dispite my bitching, I have gotten excellent health care thru VA.Yes,there have been a few problems, but keeping your ears and eyes open helps prevent things getting worse. For every bad experience I personaly have had with VA,I can count 100,or more, good experiences.Glad you dont need drugs to function normaly or to live out your life.I do.Had it not been for durgs avialable at VA ONLY(at that time),I would be dead or dying now from Hep.C ,which VA was the one to discover I had.Perhaps I am reading between the lines wrong, are you suggesting that we all stop going to VA and stop taking drugs? Thats a very dangerous statement as well as ignorant,if thats what you propose us do.

About the VA, I heard for years that I did not have a combat MOS and didn't have nightmares. As for Doctors, I have had some really bad ones in and out of the VA. Had a surgon under worker's comp that left me messed up for life so the VA is what I live with. Until the beginning of this year I had a VA Shrink & Doctor that both had their heads up something, But I had enough and had them both changed. I still go and piss in a bottle every month to get Morphine, but they are really good. I am sure they also had a lot to do with getting rated for PTSD. Just don't give up because I have found a few really good ones. Even a couple that didn't speak English. I guess mainly is to take control of your health care. I admit to do that may end you up in a padded room, but in my case it helped too.

Good evening 129ers. I do not understand why Vietnam Vets have to go to the Va for medical treatment. I am a Vietnam Vet, I am sorry, I do not trust the US Govemant for anything . Not afer Vietnam. I do not even trust regular doctors. Doctors have their head up their ass. They go to medical scool and still they are brainwash by the money making drug companies. I am 61 years old and do not take any drugs. My doctor is 38 years old. If he had his own why, I would be on five or more drugs and a have my prostate out and be in hell. I know some of you will think, I am crazy by what I am saying, but its the truth. I say again that I am a Vietnam Viet and all I care about is Vietnam Vets. If you do not believe me. Then check out the internet for alterive medical problems. You will see all the lies that have been put on you by the drug companies and the Va. From a fellow Vet.

Hey gang, this letter appeared in our morning newspaper in the Letters To The Editor section. Brought a bit of a tear to the eye and thought the rest of you might enjoy it: "Early in my military career, I was so proud of the privilege of serving my country that I wore my uniform whenever it was permitted, particularly while traveling. Eventually, I realized that the gratification inside me didn't depend on being noticed by others. But, I understand why junior members of the military proudly display their uniforms. I was surprised on a recent fligth when I noticed a combat-experienced Marine corporal in full dress uniform. Then I noticed a handsome box of polished wood that he held respectfully in his lap. He had placed on top of it a helath department certificate that authorized transport of cremated human remains. He was taking a comrade home to his funeral. I doubt that many others on the flight were aware of his mission. He was solemn throughout the flight, accepting no refreshment and avoiding leaving his seat. How would he have safeguarded his charge if he had to leave his seat? I offered to help. He graciously declined. And then I told him of my service during the Vietnam conflict, when were were counseled not to wear uniforms in public if it could be avoided. In those days, greater casualties could not be granted the respect the young Marine showed his comrade. When he left the airplane, I realized that I had been transformed, appreciating now how far the United States has come since Vietnam. There may be great divergence among us on the validity of the current conflisct or whether we are making progress. But there is immense support and appreciation for those who serve our nation. And great respect for those who give their lives." I read this story this morning as I prepared to make flight reservations to see my son Bill graduate from Marine boot camp next week. A slow hand salute to that fallen Marine and an expression of great gratitude to all who serve and have served our country. God bless you all! Bill

General William S. {Bill} Carpenter Jr. Carpenter became famous as the "lonely end" at the U. S. Military Academy in 1958 and 1959. Army Coach "Red" Blaik devised the lonely end formation, in which Carpenter was split wide and never entered the huddle. Instead, plays were conveyed to him through hand signals from the quarterback. As a junior in 1958, Carpenter caught 22 passes for 453 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was named an All-American in 1959, when he had 43 receptions for 591 yards and 4 touchdowns. Although he had to enter military service after graduation, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Carpenter was drafted by the Oakland Raiders of the AFL and the Baltimore Colts of the NFL, but he elected to became a career military officer, eventually rising to the rank of general. Hi Flight. Don, I'm sorry to hear that Donna is ailing again. I'll keep a good thought about her and you. John Christenson, I had a cousin that was in Nam the same time as me, and I had a mission to fly a big wig up to Pleiku one day, and when we landed the pilot told me I had 1/2 hour to find him. I got to see him for about 15 minutes. It took me too long to find him. We went through Crewchief training in late 1968. Even went awol together for 13 days from Ft. Rucker on Labor Day Weekend. I found him in the motor pool working on a truck. I asked him why he wasn't working on a helicopter and he said it was a long story. So we smoked a J in his hooch with a friend of his and then I had to leave. It was good to see someone from home though. Made me feel good for days after..... Robbie

John C. You hit the nail on the head. The way I heard it that the Napalm was called by Captain Carpenter. But, was on the wrong LZ.I know our aircraft were doing their best to extract the men. And were called to stand down. Because of the Air Force fire power that was coming in. I heard Capt. Carpenter was sent back to the states. Soon after that.

Alex, I am answering your post on 10/12/06. I remember June of 1966 at Dak To. My MOS was 11B20 Infantry. I was assigned to 129th AHC as a security guard. We guarded the perimeter. I remember it so well, like it was yesterday. The incident made Look or Life magazine. A Captain Carpenter of the 101st had to call for napalm ,because his company were being attacked by a battalion of NVA. The napalm is what killed most of the men in his company. If you check under gallery you will see my name John Christenson page 4. You will see the citation the 129th received from the 101st for the help the 129th give them during the rescue mission. Right were our camp was you see the napalm. It was down in a valley. Then I remember seeing Puff the Magic Dragon shooting at the ground in the afternoon into the night, It was about five or more miles from camp. That was the closes I ever got to some action. I was very lucky the hole time I was in Vietnam. I do not know how many other guys had a brother in Vietnam the same time as them. I had a younger brother with the 25th infantry near the town of Pleau. I do not know it I spelled the name of the town right. I just seen my brother on his birthday, July 9, 2006 I ask him if he remember what we both did forty years ago in July 9, 1966 in Vietnam. Of course I remember we celebrated my twentieth birthday in Pleau.

Alvis, I don't really remember the skulls, but it was a great party. Those guys were forward air controllers. The Night that Billingsly and Nowakowski died, there was a USO show at the O club. A Korean or Vietnamese band. Most of us were well past wasted. They had been scrambled out. I don't remember the other cobra pilots or the slick pilots that were along. We got word during the show and just drank a toast to them and continued drinking, trying to cover it up. They had been on a gun run and took rounds in the fuel cell pulling out of a run. My understanding is that they caught on fire and were burning on the way down. Actually I want to say the other cobra pilot was WO Dave Hartwick. The mic was keyed and they could hear them screaming. I know that is depressing, but that is what I remember. God bless them.

FLIGHT: NEED YOUR HELP! I've been working on the "annual history" portion of the 129th book. I've got great records for 1966, 1967 (Jan-June), 1968, and 1970. I also have some post-1973 history details. But, I have not been able to find / obtain any "annual historical logs" for 1967 (Jul-Dec), 1969, 1971, 1972, or 1973 (Jan-Mar). I suspect that they were written just as they were for the other years. I NEED YOUR HELP! If you have ANY of these records stashed away or can point me to a good source to obtain them, I would be very appreciative. The other sections of the book are going well and I hope that you will all be happy with the end result. Bill Wolf

evening flight, don't have time to catch up on a weeks worth of postings, so I may miss some good stuff but we have been gone this past week. Donna is back in the hospital. she went thru 6 1/2 hours of surgery this morning. the graft they put in 3 years ago was full of staph, so it all had to come out and a new one went in down the other side of her body. the Dr. said she went thru surgery with flying colors but they wanted to keep her sedated overnight in ICU. they will start waking her in the morning. so I took this oppertunity to get out of the hospital and come home for the night. she is in Scottsdale Osborn hospital which I feel is the best one in the valley. it will probably be another week before I can bring her home, but the Dr's and Nurses there are top knotch. everyone take care and I will let you know when I get her back home. Good Morning Flight, Mark Coldwater is good for me. Also got the paperwork Friday from the VA. What Kim posted on the 11th is about right as they showed 67N Helicopter Repairman, but added the Air Medals which turns it into being in Combat. Really getting put in the Psyh Ward as being Postal was my big breakthrough a few months ago. Than the VA having me go to the PTSD Group Meetings was the very first light of day that I'd seen in years. Some of those guys pushed for me to go to Kokomo, the best thing this year finding the 129th. So more than getting a rating for PTSD is now knowing I am not the only one with nightmares. I felt guilty for all these years thinking and being told that I was not in combat. I have a couple of good friends that were grunts, their lives have been torn apart by what they lived through. I now just hope that we all can help these new brothers in arms have a better time coming home and getting treatment from the VA. All have a great day and keep up the fight. If anyone has PTSD and has not talked to the VA, Do So. It took me three years to get to the right people, but I have now.

Lou......that is wonderful news brother. You had crossed my mind just the other day. I was thinking that we had not heard from you in a spell. With your post now I recall that you did say that you would be going in the hospital. Believe it or not Lou, but there is a "brightness" in your post that comes through your words that was lacking in your past post. I am so glad to see that. Not that your past post were bad or anything, I can just see that "brightness" in your words now. God Bless you brother. As far as a mini in Ohio next year, I had mentioned that it would be OK for one here in West central Ohio the weekend after the 4th of July and ask at that time what everybodys else's thoughts were about that date but did not get any responses. So will state it again. "WHAT SAY YE, 129TH?".how about a mini here in Coldwater out at our cabin and woods the weekend after the 4th of July, 2007? The other alternative is to make the Kokomo reunion the 129th mini which is always the 3rd weekend of September. Either is fine with me. Bill Wolf, am looking forward to seeing this book. It is so nice of you to work so hard on it. Thanks. Dee and I are a little over whelmed with the cabin construction right now. So many little things have to be done. Door knobs, window trim. Finnish siding the walls, hang lights, switch and receptacle covers, finish the floors, not to mention staining the complete inside. Oh well, it will all get done eventually. Got the rest of my life to do it and nothing but time on my hands, It's all a blessing!!!!!!!!! Have a wonderful Sunday all of you, whatever you choose to do today. If I may speak in behalf of the group today I would like to say this..........Lord and gracious Father, undeserving I am to be blessed by You with another day to enjoy Your riches of life, may I come to the complete understanding of it all. And may I live today in honor and glory and worship of You. Please take special care of my 129th family and may all our hearts and minds be opened to the wisdom to see You working around us and to know when to jump in and do Your work. May I be a reflection of Your son Jesus, so others can see You through me and You may be glorified. Jesus, it is through Your precious name, and all that it stands for, I ask that the Holy Spirit take my prayer to the Father and present it correctly to You. Amen.......................I love all you guys, more then you will ever know. My eyes well up and emotion rolls over me as I ponder who you are, and how I have the privilege to be a part of your lives. "YOU" are all blessings to me. I love you. Thanks for wrapping me in your arms and letting me hang on for the ride...........

Evening flight, been in hospital for the last 6 weeks with 3 more to go, being treated for PTSD, the have a great program in Perry Point Maryland. It is really intense, they get you to see and say things you haven't been able to do in years. They also help with the meds, if the need to be adjusted or changed. Next week the whole class goes to the wall to say our farwells to our fallen brothers. Up to this point I feel as if a heavy burden has been lifed from my shoulders, and I have been sleeping better. Any updates on the mini reunion.

Joe Wilson - got the dvd - worked great! Thanks. To everyone - miss you all! Had our first snow here in Colorado Springs last week - was great! My son Bill in USMC boot camp is having a pretty rough time (injured hand and foot) but is hanging in there - his graduation date is November 3rd and I'll be flying out there. My other son, Jim, is settling into his ROTC program at CalStateNorthridge. I bought a Christmas Santa helicopter that has lights and the blades turn (lawn ornament). Will be putting a 129th patch on it and will take photo and send to the web for posting. Everyone have a great weekend and great week!!! Miss ya! Bill Wolf

While in Piegon Forge TN. Stopped in a place called Outback Leather. They had about 20 POW/MIA jackets left. They were 114.99 but, was out of XL. Called me today to see if I still wanted one. I told him I did. being a Vietnam Vet he marked it down to 74.99. It's an reversible jacket will be good for the fall and winter. He told me since they were closing out the stock for the year. Any Vietnam Vet they would sell them for 74.99 plus shipping. The phone number is 1-865-908-6049. This won't be a summer jacket. And body that goes to Gatlinburg TN. goes through Piegon Forge TN. Hope everyone has a great weekend. I will start back to work on monday. Also, will a brace for my knee ready in a few weeks. Hope this works. If not then a knee replacement.

Hello flight. Rick E. good to hear from you. Glad you're still around. Pete, that was a great story. Ray, how you doing? Hope all is ok with you. I live about 60 miles from Buffalo, and last night they got 24" of heavy snow. Schools closed, Limbs breaking off of trees, Power lines down. We didn't even see a flake. We'll get ours soon enough though. My Brother is still hanging in there. Spoke to him today, and he sounded pretty good. He thinks I live down the street though, because he keeps asking me when I'm coming over. It's about 800 miles to where he lives. I tell him I'll be over when I can get some more time off from work. Hope everyone else is ok....Rob

Pete appreciate you sharing your experience at the reunion. The 20th Aniversary of the WALL I was in DC for Veterans Day. Stayed in the same hotel with 1st CAV. and Hal Moore and Joe Galloway. On Veterans Days as walking the WALL area. Two Guys from the 101st walked up and gave me a hug and said thanks. I said, for what. One guy said. The shirt you have on, we know that unit. I had on my 129th shirt I had made. As we talked, They told me in June of 1966 at Dak To they were some of the lucky ones whom the 129th extracted out of a hot LZ. We lost some of our Brother when the jets droped the NAP!! But, they always remembered the Bulldogs and Cobras.

OUr biggest problem in dealing with the VA is our MOS. 67N equates to UH-1 helicopter repairman. It even had a civilian crossover number. The `F' suffix makes it a totally different item. I read somewhere that helicopter crews suffered a 30% casualty rate, second highest among combatants. Pretty telling of a `non combat occupation'!...Baron, a true story. ( I think) Shortly after joining the VHCMA, I put the window sticker on my Jeep. My ( at the time) wife went shopping in a town about twenty miles from my home, and when she came outside there was a guy standing by the jeep, looking at the decal. As my wife walked up to him, he asked who she knew who flew on helipoters. When she told him that she was driving her husband's vehicle, he simply said, " he walks on water". He was still standing there, crying, when she drove off. As you said, he wasn't talking about me, rather, a memory of a time that had a major impact on him. On second thought, he might have been talking about you. You certainly did your share, plus!.....fall in Maine...wish I still owned my share of the Cessna.( divorce is hell, eh?) At least I can still putt :>))

Hello flight, I wanted to share something with you that happened Saturday night. I was at the RUN FOR THE WALL REUNION. I have made 3 rides 2 from Monroe to DC, and I went all the way from LA to DC. This was my first RFTW Reunion. Saturday night at the banquet they were giving hats out as prizes. The oldest biker got a hat, the one that came the most miles. The one with the most miles on their bike got a hat. Then they sifted to the military. The highest-ranking NCO. The highest-ranking Specialist, and then they asked for the one with the most Air Metals. 9, 12, 13, 16, 17, and I stood up and said 27. The room got quiet for a moment and then as if on cue the whole room stood up and begin to applaud. A standing ovation that went on for some time. After the banquet I was out side having a smoke, and feeling pretty good about myself when a guy came up to me and put out his hand. I didn’t know him. As I took his hand I realized it was shaking. I looked up and saw he was teary eyed. He said,” think you, if not for guys like you I would not be here today”. That’s when it hit me. The standing ovation wasn’t for my 27 air metals or me. It was for the Helicopters, and the crews that manned them. We at some point had torched everyone that stood up in the room in some way. Maybe they were grunts about to be over run, when a Flair Ship lit up the night sky. Maybe they were wounded and a Dust Off got them to the hospital in time to save their life. Maybe he was on patrol when things got bad, and Gun ships held off the VC long enough for a Slick to pull him out. Who knows? Who knows how many lives we have touched. How many Moms and Dads got there sons back because of a Helicopter and its crew. How many children and grandchildren are here today because of what we did. I just wanted to let everyone know that on Saturday Oct 7 at 08:30 PM YOU received a standing ovation by just a few of the lives you have touched, and how very proud I am of all of you. BARON

Good afternoon Flight. Just wanted to say I had a great phone call from my DAV rep this morning. I filed for an increase in my rating September a year ago. It was only a few eeks ago when I took copies of my Air Medal orders to the VA in Indianapolis and was upset in all the delays and stuff of wheather a 67N MOS was a combat MOS or not. Anyway he gave me the news that they are giving me 50% for PTSD and a 100% overall. At last! So if you are trying to get a rating, don't ever give up. Now I have a hearing with SSI the 30th and hope it helps with them. At least now I won't have to choose between food and pills. Hope you all are having a great day too and still wanting to meet everyone next year..

Was tired on my last post. It was 40 years since I last seen Gerald Morgan. Gerald was in the maintence platoon. We had a great time talking about some of the crazy things that happened in 65/66. One was the shit house being burned down in Tuy Hoa! As I explained that my part was using the 1200 gallon JP/4 tanker to pump fuel into the barrels. Didn't realize that I filled them to full. When the light was thrown to one. Well, you can imagine what happened next. There were some hair and eye brows burnt on that detail. Always A Brother!! Bill Wolf, Gerald had kept a journal from the years of 65&66. I will email him and see if he wants to send you anything for the book.

Now that I've curtailed my traveling and have my other projects out of the way, I'm hitting the pavement on the book big time. LAST CALL: Any one who has anything they want to contribute to the book please email to me at: VNHeloReunion@aol.com or mail to be at: 6433 Summer Grace Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80923. I will let every one know when the book is done. Am looking forward to seeing all at the next reunion. Bill Wolf

I don't remember meeting anyone with the 129th but I was with the 48th AHC supporting 9th ROK out of Ninh Hoa in 68-69 (Bluestar 123), 498th Med out of Lane in the fall of 69 (peter-pilot), and then 254th Med out of Nha Trang (Dustoff 110) until Sept 70. Currently I'm looking for a good email address for another 498th pilot. His name is Mischa Hausserman. If anyone knows him or has it I'd appreciate an email to raygreiner@hotmail.com. In January military personnel will receive a 2.2% payraise, the lowest military payraise in 12 years (supporting the troops??). However, all of the four star and three star Generals and Admirals (a total of 161 Officers) will get an 8.7% pay raise. No doubt the troops can feel the love from Washington.

All right you guys, the guy in the Capital One thingy is not me. There is a slight resemblance though. Shoot, maybe it is, there are a few foggy years back in my life I may of hopped a train. Don't recall getting paid for anything like that. If I did , back in those foggy years I would of drank it away.........Melody, like Kim said, hang in there. been there with my father-in-law. 8 years of it. That Alzheimer is a strange deal of the deck. But will have to say that "H" as I called him, ( his name was Harold )stayed in pretty could spirits. WE still use some of the funny saying he used to come up with. For instance, when winter would roll in and the first snow come, "H" would say , "the white ones are flyin'". Funny, just a different way of saying "it's snowin'" I miss him...........Freddy Boy, you been followin' the Cav's? #1 in the division now. I would have to say that they are going to do it again this year, barring a tragedy. I see that Homan at OSU is not getting as much playing time as he did in the beginning of the season. He stated against Texas. I talked to his uncle about that and he said that Russ was getting a lil' frustrated. He has started all his life. But he is only a freshmen. There will probably come a time when he wont be able to keep the media out of his bathroom............Been extremely busy on the cabin. Have time to read the Log everyday but hardly the energy to post. We are about 90% finished now. Well, the frame is. I have most of the inside walls in and covered. need to stain the inside and then start on the floors. Gonna work on then during the winter. Plan to move in in about 2 or 3 weeks. It's a blessing, that's about all I can say about it. I sure don't deserve the cabin and the land and woods that it sits in. I call it "PROOF POSITIVE ACRES", proof with faith in the Lord and hard work growing up, it is a lil' bit of the peace on earth we are promised. it's a blessing. Fred Alvis, I am pretty sure that I have Susan's drawings saved somewhere, and if she sent them to me again, they will be on my MSN account. I'll check, and when I find them, I'll have the webmaster insert them for all to see. he has been real good at keeping up with the CONTACT changes I have been sending him. I am still waiting on him to put up the 2004 reunion photos though. Some things he gets done real quick, others takes time. I apologise for that to all....Did you all get the message from Capt. Parker about them probably going to use the "BULLDOG" patch as their insignia? Kim posted it in here. He says that his CG was a 129th'er.Gen Doug Brown. Anybody recall Doug?......I love all you guys and gals. Please be careful out there. Seems the world is getting more and more violent. There's been a change, that's for sure. I ray for you all.......................God Bless...............always a brother.....

Kim.....I have a Denny McClain Trio Jazz album that`s never been played. Denny played organ and keyboards if you remember. Alot of record collectors have tried to "con" me out of the album. I found it in the attic of a old school building, that the City of Columbus had bought and was refurbishing for a Senior Citizen Arts and Crafts Center. Still wrapped up in cellophane, never been open.....It cost $3.95 brand new in 1969.

Fydrich, Denny McClain.. McClain can be named as the guy who prompted the lowering of the pitcher's mound from 15 to 10". 31-6 is still a standard to measure all other pitchers by......my Ohio connection, my youngest lives in Cincy, just had her first, our seventh grandchild.

Kim, you know George Steinbrenner is Ohio native(Cleveland), Steinbrenner coached high school basketball and football at St Thomas Aquinas High School (Columbus, Ohio), semi-pro football (Pope's Inn) , and attended Ohio State University. I played softball for Freddie(Pope`s Inn) in the mid and late 70`s...they had a big picture of a young Steinbrenner on the wall....plus the Yankees Triple A affiliate is the Columbus Clippers. So Georgie has a strong connection to Ohio.....BUT...rumor is Joe Torre is gone...they gonna hire Sweet Lou Pinilla as manager......But I have loved the Tigers since 1960.......Norm Cash, Rocky Colavito, Al Kaline, Dick McAuliffe, Bill Freehan, Jim Bunning, Frank Lary, Don Mossi......I`m so glad they won.....

Been along time sine I've been here. My grandpa has gotten into a worse stage in Alzheimers. I'm the only one who can really "handle" him. Its been hard but I don't mind it. Olen's son just left this morning from a visit. He looks so much like his father, that was really hard for my grandma. Anyways, I am here to offer some bracelets for the fund. The link in my name has a picture of the ones I could make. I don't have anymore copper but can make that one in stainless steel. The others would be in stainless steel too. An Son beat the Hell out of Kontum, Dakto and Pleiku. I was gun driver, "Jester", worked for Major Ronald E Wagner, of the 394th Trans. Thurn, Vanauken, Thomas, Marr, yes and Sharp too, all took turns trying to get Lashbrook to understand how the pedals worked. The long line of Tiger Division's finest lined up at the slot machine when the payout got big. Later in the evening the twin 40's would fire the red and green tracers into the hills. What a place, what a time,................ Leonard, March to December, 68'

Just to let all know, a bunch of us received a letter from Cpt. Parker. The 129th Bulldog unit name is a go! He commented that we should have warned him that General Doug Brown, commander of special ops, is a former 129th member!!! It's a small world, huh? I took a few pictures of the memorial in Greenwood,Maine. John Brooks is listed on it. I'll send them to Mark as soon as they are developed. Is there any chance of getting them added to the log?

Hi Flight, Well missed being able to get the "Bite & Strike" Patch in Kokomo, but got one from Daniel Hertlein today in the mail. It is really a good job compared to the ones I remember from Lane. I guess over there it was whatever the guy who made them felt like that day. So just wanted to say whoever he gets them from do a great job.

A Toast To The Flag by John J. Daly Here's to the red of it - There's not a thread of it, No, nor a shred of it, In all the spread of it, From foot to head. But heroes bled for it, Faced steel and lead for it, Precious blood shed for it, Bathing it Red! Here's to the white of it - Thrilled by the sight of it, Who knows the right of it, But feels the might of it, Through day and night? Womanhood's care for it, Made manhood dare for it, Purity's prayer for it, Keeps it so white! Here's to the blue of it - Beauteous view of it, Heavenly hue of it, Star-spangled dew of it, Constant and true. Diadem gleam for it, States stand supreme for it, Liberty's beam for it, Brightens the blue! Here's to the whole of it - Stars, stripes and pole of it, Body and soul of it, O, and the roll of it, Sun shining through. Hearts in accord for it, Swear by the sword for it, Thanking the Lord for it, Red White and Blue!

Hi Flight, sitting here in the middle of the night as I do a lot in my life and trying to think of something to say here. I think in Kokomo Mark mentioned trying to look up the 129th and finding another 129th from the Civil War. When I was assigned in Nam my father pointed out a connection with my Great Grandfather, here is a note on his unit. The 129th was disbanded August 29, 1865 in North Carolina From the Indpls. Journal, September 10, 1865. The 129th Indiana, 503 men, under command of Colonel Zallinger, arrived from Charlotte, NC on Saturday. They are in quarters at Camp Carrington. The unit figures at the end of the war, 21 killed in action, 166 died from other causes. That and my dad was with the USMC 4th on Imo where he was wounded. As I learn more about PTSD I wish I could go back and talk to those who fought before us. Now maybe I understand why my father didn't talk much but kept his Purple Heart in his special draw. I was raised with a pride for those who fought for our freedoms and my heart goes out to those who are serving us all now. So my thought tonight is that we as members of the 129th are brothers who are now, are fathers and forefathers. Even with the problems we face we are getting more respect now than we ever did when we came home. I think now we will be the ones telling the guys at the VA we respect them. Goodnight Flight, I hope this is not too boring..

Mark, the fastest way i know for you( and anyone else) to see them( cause i cant find my stinking pictures) is to look At Bill Wolfs CD from the reunion. In the back ground of a few pics,in the 129th room, sits a drawing on the unit shelf. Its of hands, clasped in prayer,or grief,or lost love,or whatever YOU interpet, holding a set of dog tags. Its about the size of a dinner table mat,but a wee bit smaller. When Susan gets home from work(tonight),I will have her E mail me the pics then pass them on to you

I will have the web master put them on here....Rhonda, as a associate member of the 129th as you are I can say this, The reunions have changed my life and brought my brother back a alive to me through the voices of the 129th'ers that I get to meet and listen too their war stories. It is a time you never will forget and never want to miss another. I may have lost a brother in Vietnam, but gained 130 new ones here......always a brother

Rhonda: The 129th room is locked up over night. But, nobody bothers anything in the room as far as photos etc. The dinner/dance on saturday night. Snce, were in Orlando this year. It's up to each person to decide on what and where they want to go. Of, coarse Mickey Mouse land is on the menu for those bring the grandkids. I might go myself . Never have met Micky. Always wanted some of those ears. And , Barry (WINK ) is planning on a 129th get togher at his home. Maybe we can use some of the funds we raise to help. As I said in a earlier post. Start making plans and saving now. Always A Brother

I have some pictures but don't know who are in them. They are some that daddy took while in Vietnam. I am working on an album about daddy, would that be something to bring to the reunion. I wasn't planning on staying the whole time because I don't know what to expect and what all will be going on. So would I leave the albums in the 129th room and then maybe people would write down who is who, if they know? What 2 or 3 things that are happening, would I want to attend?

Fred A. Your right about the VHCMA reunion. The VHCMA represents all helicopter units. And many of us spent time with other units besides the 129th. Over the years the 129th has one of the largest gathering except for the cav. But, the region of the country has alot of impact on the size of the turn outs. I know Bebee was disappointed in Phoenix this year. Because there wasn't many there he knew. I attend 7 reunions before Glenn Pearmain attended in 98 and then there were 2 of us. I think everyone whom has attended a VHCMA reunion will agree it's worth going. The Brotherhood we share. Also having the wives or other friends, children and grandchildren. The Kokomo reunion. I haven't had the opportunity to attend yet. But, it sounds like a great time also. But, both we all share the Brotherhood and Sisterhood and remember KIA's and POW/MIA's. And were FAMILY. The 129th is scattered throughout the United Stated and some other countries. Cost is a factor to getting to any reunion. All I can say start planning and saving now. Book flights early and get the insurance in case some last mintue things pop up. Then you can get a refund on the ticket. Pre-register that helps the VHCMA know how many rooms and dinner seat needed. Alot, of planning all year long to try and make the VHCMA reunion a great time for everyone. Always A Brother!! Go!! Buckeyes!!!

you know,Rhonda got me to thinking. At the VHCMA reunions, many things have happend that come close to our hearts. Remember the MIA bracelets...some have shown up (from the 129th)and been returned to family members..thru this reunion.A full flight crew has been reunited.I met smitty and Shadow at these..folks i had wanted to run into for over 30 years. Many "bits and pieces" from our memories get filled in,pictures you are in and didnt know they existed show up (ask smitty, chuckle) LURCH,i think i have one of you as well. All kinds of stuff happens,,from way out of the blue. Its remarkable.

I can only say about 2 of them. first and simplest is Kokomo. campfires, smokey smiles, stars, quite nights, good friends, laughter, and great food, all 129th members and friends, plus another group(unit),that are friends as well. 2nd is the vhcma reunions. These are held at "airport" hotels and cost indicitive of such. These are much more "formal" occasions.VHCMA reunions are inclusive of ALL helicopter folks, crewmen, support members, ect and their familys. Each night there is a meeting and one night there is a dinner dance (extra cost). A few of the units have their "own "room",the 129th being one of them. The "unit room" is a place where we drift by all day and half the night.Picture albums ect. are usually left in this room. There is almost always someone in the room. Many times pictures are taken in this room, folks meet up to discuss dinner plans,ALWAYS a group prayer for our brothers, general lies, laughter, sometimes poker, always looking back and remembering, new friends from this site( and their wives),swimming, golf, and just saying hello to old friends and brothers. It is a family atmosphere, with a couple of old hell raising vets thrown in. ( me?).Rhonda, you would be welcome, you are part of the 129th family.

Would you please fill me in on what goes on at the reunions? I want to come and bring my family so I can meet everyone, hear some stories and look at pictures. I will probably invite my uncle-who was only 10 when daddy died. If that is okay with everyone. What details do I need? THanks
