Hay everyone, we sure have made a lot out of food the past few days. Keith, did I miss you here before? Fred, sounds like you have the best way to see people on the companies dime. I am about to sell my diesel. We just had a good old hail storm come through an hour ago. Rather think about BBQ bunnies on a stick. Also thinking of how good a sweet young Ground Hog would taste. Mark, maybe we should just stick to small furry critters at Kokomo this year. Gently bring a big pot with you and we can have Bunny Stew. Gail I know you got some critters around your cabin to bring.. Take care.

Kal, the taste wasn't as important as the melt in your mouth texture of the youthful unused muscle. Especially of the thigh which is surprizingly very thick and therefore quite a delicious mouthful. Yes, perhaps a BBQ and we can each pick our own from a long "baby bunny queue".....like we do those deep red and brown little scavengers of the ocean....the lobster. I'm hungry. L-Gently

Ken, Tabor City is about hour and half away. My father-in-law used to sell some of his tobacco there because the market open there eary every year. There are many brands of sauce sold in store down here. In the 70's a group of purebred hog farmers in Indiana tried to start a restaurant call "Wild Boar" by inviting 500 people that were not involved in farming to try some pig BBQ. They didn't get the % they wanted to like it so they foiled.

Hay JW, I know Tabor City is not all that far from where you are. I remember the big on a long bar over the fire to turn it with the wood. The meat after cutting through the hard burnt skin fell apart with the smoked flavor. I never knew how the sauce was made but don't they sell something like it there in the state? Sort of like the moonshine from the area, has it's own kick. It would be tasty in Kokomo..

J. W. Wilson
kinston , N.C. USA - Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 19:15:33 (MDT)
Gale, years ago a hole was dug in ground. Sticks were placed so pig would be held about two feet from bottom. Pig layed on sticks and hot wood coals from oak and hickory plced under pig for about 12 hours then pig turn over and cooked for another hours with sauce pour over pig. When done they would chop up the meat or put it on small wagon and people come by and take some of it to put on plate. in 70' we started cutting 280 gallon tanks so that a pig could be layed on a rack about 3/4 from top. Then heated with wood, gas or charcoal for 6 to 8 hours. I seen pigs from 50lbs to 350lbs cooked this way. Eastern NC BBQ is more vinegar base. an example would be 1 gallon vinegar, 80 oz of ketchup, four sticks of butter,4 cups of brown sugar,4 cups of water, 24oz of mustard,16 teaspoon of chile powder, 8 teaspoons garlic salt, 16 teaspoons of salt, 2 teaspoons texas pete, and two bottles of worchester sauce. bring to a boil. You can cut this amount into half depending on how much you will need.Workks good for chickens, usually take out sugar and butter for pigs. If you like hot food add black pepper

Ihave to chuckle to myself. Many of you know me well enough to understand this. A while back, Phils people(Becky) contacted me about the pictures I took with me to England. They wanted to post them, with comentary from me,under each pic.So I did a ask, with an aside note saying " Pleae edit as you see fit". There are no mentions of a certain "leafy green subatance",,nor smoke arising from said substance.I,of course, knew this would happen, but had to throw in a chuckle and a bit of distress for the editors of the pictures..lol. Jim,you are in picture 20,you have seen it before. They also put in your chicken plate that you sent Mark, which sat in the Pop A Top, and was signed by many of us.Its not my plate, but I thibk it would be cool to send it to Phil (and crew) to tour with the 509 and be displayed at the airshows, another genuine 129th object.Mr. Shaw also made the pics, front page ,where he hould be. I dont know who to give credit to for that picture..its the one with him and Fustis, and another pilot, drinking beer in the O club. Thanks Phil, sorry for pulling your leg with some of my commentary, knowing you couldnt put it in.

N.C. BBQ, as a kid I never knew what it was but my mom's family, Strickland's were in the S.E. part of the State. My Grandmother's kitchen had a big fireplace that held one of those big kettles I guess about 30" across. BBQ, Chicken & Rice, Mountain Dew in the sixties from a big bottle. Always had watermellon! I still stand by what I said before, My family wasn't rich either. We grew up at a good time compared to our parents in the Depression and WW2. When I see my kids and grandkids they never had that freedom. I remember leaving home on my bike in the morning and coming home when the Sun went down. As a nine year old going in a buying a box of .22s and just setting around shooting at things. I don't think the winter ever could have slowed us down as kids. Now guess those good old days are the only things that keep me going. Right now I wish I could get my hands on some great N.C. BBQ Sauce for those that never had a pig whole pig fixed there. Brothers, take care.

Happy Easter. Sue & I are at our daughter's in Hudson Wisconsin. We're having ham and scalloped potatoes and angel food cake with strawberries. It's been snowing all weekend and about 30 degrees. We still have 8' piles of snow at our house. It's definitely still winter in Wisconsin. Have a great day.

Hello all you Bite'n Strikers!!.. Happy Easter too!!.. First off, my condolences to Mark and familey on your brothers passing, it is never easy and my thought are with you. Gale, I have not, since high school, been a big basketball fan. I think they are a bunch of overgrown trained monkeys and that the net ought to be raised another 5 feet. I must admit that some of those guys, and gals, impress me with their ability to swish that ball thru the net from the other end of the court, but that only means that either the ball is too small or the hoop is too big and not much of a challenge..Ha.. I also feel that the "grade point average" to play sports in college ought to be at least a "B" also!.. Paul Mcgrath, I knew you had it in ya!!.. I am proud of ya too!!. Hey while I am at it, what happened to you on "instant messenger"? I see you still can get on the net and know you have moved recently but must say that you have been missed there.. If it is because of a address change, send me your new one and we can get together again on the messenger. Ya, Gale, we have had 2 real nice days in a row up here and need them to get rid of the 8 inches of "mother nature" that fell on us Friday. We had just gotten rid of the winters snow when she must have thought we needed more. I am hoping that this is the end of it and I can get the bike out pretty soon. Oh, and by the way,...My room-mate from the the Army days won't be able to make the reunion and I am open again for a room-mate in Saint Louis. So, if anyone wants to share a room, reservations already made, let me know either here or direct email.. Thats it from the great white north for now.. Love and Brotherhood!!.. C U in Saint Louie!!!.. Kal 67/68...>>>

Flight, I was just wondering what everyone is having for Easter dinner? Debbie & I usually spend Easter by ourselves. We are cooking half a ham (which will probably feed us for month) along with a broccoli/cheese casserole, potatoes, 5-cup salad and rolls. We'll then hit the couch and watch the NCAA tournaments. We still have a couple BigTen teams (Wisconsin & Michigan State)(sorry Kal, but,"Go Wisconsin") in there as well as Butler (from northern Indiana.)Duke is gone.......now if someone would please knock-out UNC & UCLA,(no offense guys)... I'd be happy! ....Beautiful day here in Indiana, but, only 'bout 50 out. Always a brother!...Gale

i was in the motor vehicle office yesterday, waiting for my turn and a person came in in desert fatigues. my number was next, so i got up and went over to him and changed numbers with him and told him welcome home. he was absolutely dumbfounded. kept saying thank you. i went back and sat down and the lady next to me said that was a nice thing to do. i told her i wish somebody did that for me when i came home from nam. she said if they did then you proabably wouldn't have gone out of your way to do that today. best of times?? My family lived in a two room slab sided camp for the first few years of my life. I was kid number eight. Several of our neighbors either died from polio, or were paralized by it. Fred, it's been this way since the industrial revolution, only thing that's changed is our transition to post industrial society. About the only good thing after WW2 was a pent up desire for things. Don't forget, this country had gone through fifteen years of depression prior to WW2, and the influx of money, along with the returning soldiers and sailors attitude of 'let's live, we've all seen enough of death', led to a long term expansion of the economy. Workers demanded money to buy things, business people gave it to them, and passed the increased costs on to the consumers. It worked good for a long time, till somebody decided there was a market for 'lower cost goods'. That, along with rising energy and environmental costs, led to the exporting of manufacturing jobs to lower cost markets, wich led to fewer jobs, with resulting lower wages, less ability to pay for goods, another search for lower cost manufacturing.......and on and on it goes! It's a big race to the bottom, and we're stuck in the middle of it. The wall street types still control things, they'll be the last one's to go under...... on the political side of things, I don't have any faith in any of the one's still running. To me, they're just running so they can say 'look at me, I was the president'.....oh well....spring is coming?

Hey all. Thanks a lot for your words of comfort. I appreciate them. Kinda hard to say how I feel. I mean you guys just recently learned how he and I just never did really have a relationship until the last couple of months. At least we did I guess. Just kinda strange and unexpected.......I'm the last one now....that's strange. I have decided not to tell mum. At her age and the way her mind is NOW (in and out) I think it would be better to not have her have any mental pain right now. I don't know. I think that is the best thing to do. That's the hardest part about this. Mum has outlived 3 of her kids. A young daughter back in 56. Larry in 69 and Now Dave. Well dad too back in 04........I dont know. People ask me how I'm doing and I say to them that either because of Dave and my relationship, or I'm calloused with death or the Zoloft, I don't feel a thing......but................see ya later....again, thanks to all and Smitty, I love you too man..........always, and the last of the Jackson brothers...........

After putting him in the hospital over there for 3 weeks he then came to America and was in the hospital here and then recouped in a nursing home for a spell then went to Arizona to be with his daughter to further recoup. All indications was he was getting better. Sunday he went into the hospital. He passed away last night out in Arizona. Liver and kidneys shut down.

Fred "do" file the appeal. These are all barriers that the "system" has. filing the appeal will only "HELP". It cant hurt you. Unfortunately this process is slow. If'in you can, go to the nearest "VET CENTER" for assistance to prepare the appeal. I also had to submit an appeal. After one or the VA's re-evaluation exams I was told that I was OK. I'd like to spit some Beechnut in that dude's eye.Prepare yourself with "documentation" ETC. But do "file" the appeal. Try not to "go off" on the people @ the VET CENTER. They're not the culprits. Happy Birthday a day late and Fred put in another appeal. Did they tell you way you were turned down? Seems like there are still to many morons at the VA & SSD. Also for you guys that met my one Brother-in-law from Florida. He was setting in the bar the other night when a guy came in who no one knew. Came up and started some shit about his Nam hat and how worthless we all were. Here he is in his mid sixties and the guy looked like he was in his twenties. Well the fight broke out and Bub took and gave a couple good hits before the guy bit him on the hand and was thrown out of the bar. Bub is sick everyday fighting his cancer and can't walk very far. Still given his pride in the service with the military and a cop he still won't back down or take crap. Guess we all still need to hold our heads up high for what we all did.

Fred I will agree with that a 100% as so many of them have a hand out collecting for God so they can get a bigger plane or house. I believe in God but we have gone to several churchs over the past few years, but still bounce around here. I don't want to start on politics either because I am just feeling like crap over the extremes in the country, both sides and no one can be happy with anyone. Gale it is a small cabin 10x20 with a porch. To close I don't want to get anything started but wish we all had reason. That is true even in Iran where religon has them wanting to kill us all or North Korea with a ruler that doesn't care if his people starve. I don't think God under any name would like how we are taking care of each other or killing each other. Even in this little College town I feel like I should be walking around with a gun on my hip. With all respect Ken, how was Obama`s pastor worst than some of the bile that has spewed from the now sainted Jerry Falwell's mouth over the years?.....“What we saw on Tuesday,September 11th,2001,”Jerry Falwell said, “as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if in fact, God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.” So Ken....you`ve got "wackos" on both left and right.

Gale I sure hope so one way or the other. Right now I am setting in my little cabin watching Mr. Obama in Plainfield, Indiana. I am out here because my wife wants me to sell my truck after putting a $135 worth of fuel in it. As I am writing while watching this on TV talking about our addiction to Fuel. WOW, eight years ago Mr Bush wanted to open up Alaska & let the companies build a Natural Gas line down to us here. That has been blocked along with every effort to build a new refinery. This is not about politics anymore, it is about how stupid can people be? No one in the White House can fix the mess while China and India buy every extra drop of fuel they can get. The other day the guys in Washington were telling the head of the EPA he is causing globle warming by not being harder on companies here to clean up our emissions. I am sure China is dumping more in the air now that we are. Not to mention years of people in South America burning down the jungles. Oh well this is just Ken thinking out load. I think it was Dale Wysocki, 1st Flt (71-72) who sent me the web address of Obama's church. That is a scary bunch and I can;t buy he never was in church when the things were said. I left my first church when I was sixteen because of remarks about a girl going to hell for dating a Catholic. One time it was when they said blacks shouldn't come into the church. OK, sorry for being long winded as my PTSD nighmares kicked in last night. You all take care.

Well glad to know we are cheaper here but it still hurts the pocket book. I am seeing bubs on the trees too, but looked back to last year and we had everything coming up and the leaves poping out before the 4th of April when it droped down in the twenties for several days messing up everything. I am still hoping for a good strong spring as we made BLTs the other day and four tomatoes were over $7. Looks like we need a really big garden like my parents had and buy some baby chicks for eggs. Guess it is a good time to live out in the middle of nowhere even though my truck is setting on emtpy for over a week. Ken,the cheapest diesel prices I have seen are here in Indiana.Yep,four bucks a gallon and going higher they say,up to five bucks a gallon by the end of summer. depending on the load and route,m truck gets 4 to 6.5 miles per gallon. I have a 200 gallon tank(s).Alot of indepentent owner operator are being driven out of the biz. Folks, hold on to your wallets, prices for everything is going to go up...trucks deliver EVERYTHING that you buy in the stores.Add in that new gov. regulations on emissions for big trucks have started . They have big troubles with the emission equipment on the new rigs so companys are holding off on buying them. They are spending alot of time in the repair shops.Oil prices are at an all time high as is gold..over 1000 per ounce now.Chinas yin is at an all time high against the dollar.Times are a changing folks.

Fred that bites, I thought you might have been there last month when I saw just a big old orange tractor parked there. Been there, done that but didn't have to drive that far. I go next week for a second appt after the last one three months ago and saw the doctor for under five minutes. All I want is a doctor to spend a little time and answers my questions. Fred, what do you think of Diesel prices? We want to take a trip while school is out and I am checking prices on mapquest which is over $4 a gallon. Hay you all take care.

Good afternoon friends. Alex wanted me to post and remind you to book your rooms for the reunion in June. He was told by the Director that rooms are going fast and they are looking at an overflow hotel. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you in St. Louis. By the way Alex is restricted from climbing stairs right now due to what the doc thinks is a ruptured tendon on his left foot! I promise I did not stomp his foot this time. He has been off work for the past 3 weeks and is going bananas! So if you get a free minute give him a short call on his cell. He has been going to therapy and we are not sure if it is helping the tendon any. Keep him in your thoughts and give him a quick call if you get a minute. His CSM is really getting on his nerves!!! But he must follow orders! Take care. Liz

Hey Mark, your coments on global warming are not so strangs at all.. Go, using Google Earth, to the middle of Greenland, about 4/10 of the way up and about in the middle of it's width and zoom in and have a look at what the melting of the ice is exposing. What ever it is it appears to not be something that just got there on its own.. There are a lot of things in this world that are mind boggeling and this is one of them.. Later... Kal - 67/68...>>>

Forget Einstein's theory. Forget the String theory. Forget about anybody ever figuring the "Theory of everything". You know, them physicist that want to find out how the earth started not only at the first second of time, but to a micro second. I have stumbled on a theory that is so huge that we wont need to even think about who will be president or any kind of theory of thinking at all....Listen to this and tell me what you think...............while researching some old film footage......hum...... I believe it was some 1957 footage........it seems that the earth experienced and meteoroid landing back then......something was inside the falling star and it got out. It had already completely destroyed many lives but was finally brought under control by keeping it cold. It was air lifted to antarctica and dropped there. ...............NOW..........if this Global Warming thing is true.....it wont make any difference who is in charge of any country. If antarctica warms up.......it will......well.......I don't know if the world is ready for this...........but.....here is goes............It will release "THE BLOB"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..................sincerely.........

Fred S., Yes, i do not see how Sen. McCain could get by what he went through without some PTSD issues, as we know too, he was treated after coming back & went on to finish his military career. I am Pro McCain myself although still a little confused. They are all so good at convoluting things. My Daughter (& a lot of youth) are Obama proponents as we know. She was not able to talk directly with him but got 20 ft away. She said the experience was great & he did talk at some length about bringing the troops home, vets issues, & taking care of vets. He used to sit on the armed services committee & i have researched a lot on all the candidates on the net & have been following this all the way through as it will be an extremely important election. If you wonder if PTSD would hamper John Mccain, i dont think so however we all know that conditions of extreme stress tends to exacerbate symptoms. He has been under stress a long time & has held up well. He of course will be able to feel empathy with our vets & as the others are not vets it will be harder for them to empathize. I know you keep on top of things Fred & hope this helps a little>>> hping to meet you someday at a reunion>>>>> Smitty

Smitty(Jim), that`s great your daughter is taking a interest in the elections. I think young folks gonna have alot of "say" in this election ........Smitty, being a person, with a "Veterans Health Care" background," Do you think John McCain has suffered with PTSD?.....I`m sure that will be brought up during the elections. And once again it will be "Bash-A-Veteran" day.......They kicked Kerry in the ass, now they`ll beat on John McCain....We`ll NEVER have a Nam Vet as a sitting president. When I was in college, a economics professor once told me," Your generation Fred, will be "skipped-over" when it comes to "leadership" in this country"........

But after some sweet talking, she agreed, and she sent me 129 VN vet plates.I sent her one of our unit patches and she was all excited. It proves a little honey goes a long way.
