Terri took 14 days to die.In the upcomming pathology report, the doc will state wheather Teri knew anything or not,if she felt anything or not. While agreeing to the fact that there are many good reasons for pulling the plug,I await the results on this one.The husband shouldnt have tossed out her family during her last dieing moments. They couldnt have said goodby together? My living will states that I want the plug pulled on me,if and when,I ever get like that.I just hope it doesnt take me 14 days to die.

Evening flight.........Robbie R. I got your e-mail and sent one out to you tonight. Sorry bout that brother...........this Terri S. feeding tube thing has really confused me a lot. My wife takes care of kids in her school that need to be tube fed and will never be out of the prone position in their lives and nobody is starving them to death. I know that spouses have the say so, but why did her X wait so long to make a stink about it, and what diference did it make to him anyways? What did he have to gain? Terri had no hold on his life any more. Seems he was doing what he damb well pleased to do anyways. I dont know.......I really am confused about all aspects of the whole thing and dont understand it all. All the court stuff and the Gov. involvement. I am not knowledgeable enough about that stuff to understand it all.................my Pop always said that if he ever got that way to just hit him over the head with a ball bat. Guess you could say I did the next best thing back in November of last year. Like Kim, and probably many other of you all, I was the one that gave the order to let Pop go.........I sometimes still wonder about whether I gave him all the chance I could of or not...........always a brother..................

Of all the things I've done in my life, the hardest had to be agreeing to pull the plug on my father in 89, and my mom in 99. We only know what the media circus wants to let us know, along with the religeous right. We'll probably never know the real story. Bottom line is, as spouses, we have the primary say in what happens to our significant others in these situations. Question: what is it about this instance that makes the so called "conservative" folks so interested? It's not as if this sort of thing has never happened before. I need asshole delay and boy georgie to make these decisions for me about as bad as I need those idiots to fix social security!!!

You are now officially on the 129th prayer list. Did everyone get the photo of our own John Dillman in Iraq? I have been worried about Rainer ever since he told me about his health problem. I feel better that he is taking care of it as soon as possible. There's always other reunions. 30 years ago the end of the Vietnam war. This Nov. will mark 40 years ago that Rainer,Glenn Pearmain and myself was in Vietnam. Some extended and I came back for a second tour. I feel honored to be able to servr with two Brothers. I crossed paths with some Honorable men such as Kal, Jim Hydinger, Max Whitington, Rick and many more. I am proud to be associated with all the 129th Family. Never in my wildest dreams I thought 40 years after Vietnam i would be here on this Flight log. May the Lord bless all of you and your families. Always A brother Alex

32 years ago,on this day,the last American troops were pulled out of Vietnam, ending American involvement in the Vietnam war.Over 58,000 of our brothers , fathers, sons, husbands, and wivies lost their lives on that bloody battleground.I constantly hear the term " we lost that war".To those people,I have this to say. No,you lost the war,if indeed, the word "lost" can even be used concering American involvement.South Vietnam struggled on for two more years before losing their freedom.America's military won the battles, cilivans lost the war.Ho Chi Minhs memiors are full of referances applying that statement. He also states that after "tet of 72",they (nva) were throughly beaten and would take years to recover. There was even talk amoung the NVA of ending (read that surrendering) their struggle against the south.Whenever I hear the statement.."our boys died for nothing",my heart cringies,my temper gets raised a bit and I ask myself,"just how ignorant can people be,even after all these years"? Yet,I find it a difficult question to answer. There are so many "levels" to address an answer to,levels people cant understand unless they were there, even some levels combat vets, of other wars, cannot understand. Its more than the "profound" brotherhood that exist between friends in combat troops of a unit,or of an army. Its more than a simple "they answered to their flag and its bugle call". Its more than "it was the right thing to do" or "supporting our way of life, our country, our morals.Morer than curiosicy and adventure of a young man to find out what war is like and how his inner self wil react.I fear I cannot explaine why I feel "america" didnt lose nor why those brothers and sisters that died, died for a reason.I just know,I feel with my complete heart, that deep inside,I know the reasons.I hold their sacrifice in the highest and brightest light of moral inturpitude, bravery, friendship and courage. They are the real unsung hero's of our generation. My resting brothers and sisters,I salute you today and everday, you are NOT forgotten.

Thank you all for your suggestions, you truly are a wonderful family. :>)) Time to talk cash: I was given a large, beautiful, 129th flag to use in the raffle for Christmas 2005, but the Committee feels we should raise some funds now. The flag is a black background with the 129th patch on one side of it....quite a beaut! The bids will start at $60, and we'll raffle it off until we leave for the re-union. Let's go...and remember, your bid can remain a secret if you wish it to be, just let me know. What a great gift:>))) especially for those of you who don't know what to get the 129th Vet who has everything..well.. will have everything when he gets the flag:>)). Congrats to Lous, now find or pick up that old hobbie and enjoy life as it was meant. I look forward to seeing you at the reunion, now that you might be able to find the time, ah someday. Frank, I'm not good with words written or spoken but i will try and answer a few of your questions from my view. Should you join the VHCMA, yes if you are elgible since you must be a crewmember. Not all the folks in the 129th are members but do not let that stop anyone from attending. We will have our own suite to have our little family reunion and most folks find they need not go anywhere. In the past there has always been plenty of beer, family and friends and even a dance partner. The formal dinner is not a black tie affair, that will turn you away if not dressed a certain way. The dinner is a way to honor folks who have contributed, and also to honor the memory of our fallen brothers, and familys members who need our prayes and support. I hope this gives you a bit of what to expect on the first. One other thing open your heart, for it is about to be filled with love and remembering,,,I can hardly wait. Jim

Someone mentioned that they might not want others know when they were online due to MSN messenger. That is fine. Just go to the tool bar and select tools/options and in the general tab check just the top item. Then whenever you are available or want others to know you are on line you start messenger manually by clicking on the icon. On my computer I have the first and third items checked so that I log on automatically when I start my computer since I am on cable internet and always online at startup. He has a done a great job putting it together. As far as a 129th reunion. I have some research on an 129th reunion seperate from the VHCMA. Anything is possible. But, a few things we will need to look at. (1) We will need an person whom has a business backgroung to deal with hotel contracts etc. A retired person if possible, whom can travel to locations to see what we can get. (2) Also, Insurance to cover the Asso. which would include the Board, merchandise etc. Which is needed for any Asso. Now I have given a little input. Fred has done his job. From tents and steam and creams to out houses and steam and creams.Americans, arvns, rocs, from them shotting at us with sks's and 51 cals to shoulder held heat seaking missles and ak-47s.As the war grew and wound its way thru our history, the 129th was there.and were still here.

Rick is right. I am on MSN messenger and my brother and I actually talk to each other and can use our web cams to see each other. I also thought the chat room was a bit cumbersome but it was getting people talking in real time and I thought this was better than nothing. Msn messenger is free and you can tell when your other contacts are online or offline. All you need is their email address to have them as a contact. My 2 cents for what it's worth.

Hi everyone. I have tried that chat room on several occasions now and to be honest I was not too impressed with it. 1. The several steps you have to do to get on. 2. You do not know if anyone is in there unless you go there and look. 3. It is slow!! If everyone in the flight would sign up for free hotmail account (Net Passport)then they could use MSN messenger which is part of their operating system on their computer. When you started your computer and get on line other flight members would be alerted that you are on the net!!!! You could have multiple chat partners, have the oportunity to use audio and video chat!!! Give it a thought anyway. Take care and have a nice day. Rick

Hello Flight. I haven't posted in awhile. Getting kind of frustrated with the job search. Fred, I agree with Gale that our first goal should be to find as many lost 129th brothers as possible with the idea of having a reunion of our own. Also 20 or 30 years down the road, yep that will just about do it for us, so a history archive also sounds good. I also like Fred's ideas of a Then/Now picture area on the site and helping Mark out with money for this site. If I had any brain cells left, I would come up with my own ideas. Maybe after I give it some more thought I can come up with one.
Robbie
Rochester, NY USA - Thursday, March 24, 2005 at 14:37:21 (MST)
Alvis, I think that our first & formost goal is to find as many lost brothers as soon as possible, via numerous newspapers across the nation. Then, a possible 129th reunion of our own that we can hold anywhere we want and in locations that are more accessible (and cheaper) for our brothers & sisters. A "slick on a stick" would be great and it sounds like Mark will have the place for it eventually. I hope Mark will provide a "home" for us, if in deed, that's what he wants. I also think that we need to establish a 129th history archive that will be around long after we are gone...........20 or 30 years down the road. I imagine that the average age of a 129th brother is about 60-62....do the numbers. Like it or not................ one of these days there will be no one to carry on.....................A brother forever, Gale 67-68

Both Mark and Alex have mentioned something about the goals of the 129th assoc.Darn good question.I would really like some input from you guys on this. After all,it is your org.How about these couple of ideas to get the ball rolling.First,I think there should be "short" and "long term" goals.( cant be to long,we're all getting gray)First,to try and contact other 129th brothers, the promotion of brotherhood, social interaction between us,HELPing with the ongoing fights with V.A..The sharing of pertinent info to all of us.Perhaps a now/then section for pics of us.Don has started an excellent site on our "lost" brothers.hmm, perhaps long term is to continue our search for btothers, maybe trying to get a "slick on a stick" from the feds, the museum the Mark has started,an archive expanded for our pics and "tins" ( this is no shit),a centeral place we can get hats or shirts, bumber stickers, whatever.Helping Mark pay for this web site, that he so generously dips into his own wallet each month to pay for.To make sure we and our kia's are not forgotten.Something about "gold star moms? Just throwing out stuff to get the ball rolling and shake out the cobwebs.Common guys, lets hear your ideas about your/our org.

Hey Gang. I have been contacted by Kirby Bradford of the Lee County Florida Sheriffs Office. They are looking for history and info and personal that may have drove ,crewed, gunned, worked on or has pictures the 64-13497. It was an D model while with the 129th during Dec,1966 thru Sept.,1967.They are getting the ship to be used in their force. They want to put the correct nose art on it and learn the history of it. Our history section has some info during that time but does not mention the "497". Can anybody help out here. Kirby's phone number is 239-425-5478. If you have any info please contact him. He says that the "497" has been converted to an H model and now to a Huey II with the pointed nose and now has a Cobra engine and blade system on it. I guess the question is was it a Bulldog or Cobra?................always a brother

If Animal won't "selfishly" promote his wonderful artwork... I WILL! He does a NICE job with the deco tiles, folks. Visit the site and see for yourself. Alvis, I agree... the action of the courts here flies in the face of common decency... makes zero sense. Stickman, good to see your post! I want to exchange carvings with you sometime. Thank's Smitty, Alvis, Dave and others who have visited my site. It's still new and under construction. We really haven't intended it to be a "store" as much as a virtual "catalog". Our Main product that we're trying to promote are the Deco tiles, and the website is a good way to show tile stores what we do. Eventually there will be some Order forms on the site for you to order stuff, but for now, just let me know by email if you're interested in anything and we'll take it from there. If any of you out there are concerned about my blatent promotion of products on this website, I can only say: "It's blatent promotion of my products on this website". (LOL) Seriously folks, this is the last you'll hear from me about it, but keep in mind that I'm interested it donating stickers, banners and other stuff to the 129th Assc. as fund raising materials. Goodmorning Flight: Had to cover the store mgr. position at Autozone this past week. So that took away my time. A lot has been going on. But, those's of us in the VHCMA will find out in the up coming newsletter. Exc. Dir. Charlie Rains has been fighting throat cancer. He has been through the chem and radiation treatents. Were waiting on the out come. Were all praying for him. I was told not say anything to anyone. When he was ready he would. I respected he wishes. Charlie was the one whom got me in touch with Mark. And that was the one of the bestt things to happen to me. Fred and and Susan your in my thoughts and prayers everyday. And our 129th Family is with you all the way. Now the 129th Asso. 1st some had their thoughts of us maybe becoming a business venture. So, I contacted Mark and thought maybe we could post a over all picture about the goals of the 129th Asso. This I felt would give everyone a better out look of our goals. AT NO TIME ANY NEGITIVE COMMENTS WERE MADE ABOUT FRED. ONLY AND I SAY ONLY THE HIGHEST RESPECT FOR EVERYTHING FRED HAD DO FOR THE 129TH ASSO. RESPECT MY BROTHERS. the reasons they didn't post, they felt they would be targeted as a trouble maker. Because of the arguments some have had in the past. We are adults first and Brothers and Sisters joined together because of the Viet Nam War. I am an out spoken person. I listen of what people have say. And I try to solve problems. I personally feel we have the greatest Family of folks here. And I have the highest repect for Fred Alvis for all he has done, and support him. I hope in the future everyone will feel free to express their view's. Fred has worked on the 129th Asso. also Rick England and I talked about him and Wink along with some of the others to share the knowledge of getting the info needed for the VA. These's Brothers have been through the system. I appreciate any help I can Get. Let's help each other. Chat line. Great way to get together. Hope more will join us at 8 eastern time. Well need to head to work. To all of you have a great day. To anyone whom has any qustions about the 129th Asso such as the purpose, Mark and Fred will be more and glad to give an over all layout. Always A Brother!! Alex

Smitty, you can test the ticket change by calling the airline and asking what the penalty is if you have to change you travel plans. That will give you an idea of how much of a problem it will be. I've done it a few times in the past. J. W., we've had to change our plans, and won't be driving down the east coast this year. Sorry. Mark, hope this note finds you feeling better.Didnt get to post that stuff today.Spent all day either at chemo with Susan,or at Va.For anyone who has aphrehensions about the 129th ahc. assoc.,this hopefully was adressed in the by laws.If i thought for a minute that the work I have done will in any way change this brotherhood in here,I wouldnt be doing it.It does open doors for things folks have talked about in here..a fererally subsidised gift of a helicopter,a tax number for gifts to the assoc.,such as Animals very nice bumper stickers, robbies rocks, ricks pins, the shirts and hats someone made ect.It may somehow even let Mark save bucks on where he is keeping all the 129th gear folks have sent him over the years. To get any tax numbers,non- profit or otherwise, its classified as a buisness. It is that..but in name ONLY.Read the by laws, there printed in here. There is no way anyone can legally make money, and if the 129th ahc. assoc. does,it legaly has to give it away, such as in the manner that we have done in the past, or someone will be in very deep doo doo.I will try and mail out the copies tomorrow during my lunch break. When you 3 recieve them, please post your thoughts here.If anyone thinks this will be corrupted, then i want to drop it,let it wither on the vine.I will not disclose the fed "ein" number except to the board and the 2 others who are getting the copies.I was warned about putting it in public.the board, mark or Gently can choose to do as they please with it,it will then be out of my hands.

RICK E; i forgot to mention in my other post that the security cert for the program for the chat room has expired and that maybe the reason that it's not filling in the box. it is not uncommon to find a security cert that is expired nowdays.they are only good for a year or so and they don't always get updated.i'm pretty sure the problem is with a setting on your computer. my point is don't be alarmed at the cert being expired all the rest of us that have gotten on have used it and it is not a problem paul

rick england and ray;RICK E; i think that the security settings on your computer may be set for high security. if they are it will not give you the choice of wether you want to ignore a security warning. you would have to go into (my computer)on your desk top and look at your security settings.if they are set on high you may have to change them to medium security. RAY; if you look back a couple of days i posted step by step instructions on how to get in the chat room. if it will help you can open two windows with one on chat and the other on the flight log and follow the instructions that way. or you can call me at(815)883 3327. i won't be home after monday for a week and a half as we are going to death valley. hope this helps and we can talk on the chat page soon paul

well flight,we are getting somewhere.A letter came today from the state of indiana Tax department for the 129th ahc assoc. We now have an " Indiana Nonprofit Sales Tax Exemption Certificate".I guess that boils down to we can buy stuff and not pay sales tax on it,to be used in the manner for which we were set up.I guess that means we can buy hats and stuff....maybe someday a helicopter? It also says we can buy stuff of resale. Dang,I gotta start making copies of this stuff. Well, off to work I go.Tomorrow I have A va app. and Susan gets her bi- weekly drip of poisin.

Hi to all & hope everyone does ok with your struggles, seems like we are all having them. Fred & Susan, hang in there. Just wanted you all to know i really screwed up this time. The reunion being 22-26, i booked a priceline ticket & when i looked at the registration form, the Dance & dinner on Sat. Nite begins at the same time my return flight leaves. I made an attempt to change but once you book with Priceline, it is unchangable(thats it). So i will be there for everything except that. I have booked a room & am not yet sure if Shadow is coming so i may want to share a room to cut cost. Lookin forward to seein ya all there, Respects, Smitty

hello flight; trying to drum up some more people for the chat page so i thought some simple step by step instructions might be in order. first click on chat from the menu on the home page. you will be taken to a page that gives you choices for windows , mac and linux, don't worry about them. go to the sentence that says(if you would like to use the interface we have for the chat room click here) click on the word HERE.that will take you to a page that says (please grant permission when pop up window appears) after 30 seconds or so the window will come up that says (security warning)DON'T BE ALARMED. just click on yes. it will take you to the next page, that saysjava on the side and there are two blocks type in your nick name(or you can leave it as guest) next block asks real name( you can leave it as 129th crew member)move to the bottom and click on the sun with the arrow in it.this will bring you to a page that is3/4 black on the left and1/4 purple on the right. it will say guest or what ever has signed in in yellow. don't worry about the other gobbledegook.go to bottom of black section and you will see a long white box with a black line flashing at the left side type in what you want to say and hit the enter key on your computer keyboard. your sentence should appear in the black box for all to see.if you do it this way you will not have to download anything.kal, alex, mark,cp and i have been on the last week or so at 8 pm central time.kal has been pretty prompt about the 8pm time and i try to be.if no one is there check back in 5 or 10 minutes. if on one is there the purple box on the right sie of the screen will be empty. if there are people there their names and a smiley face will be there. hope to see some more people check in. it's been kind of cool to talk to a bunch of people i've never met. hope this helps anyone who has been trying to get on but didn't know how paul

We are already seeing it here in Phoenix. staff cuts my primary care quit the stress got to her. Patient advocate told me only if its an emergency that I get to see someone. Honestly, McCain is out for himself. I don't think he would help, but who knows, it's worth a try! If you do a search on the internet for "Senator John McCain" it should pull up his website and all the contact info. In addition, call his Phoenix office and ask for Tom McCanna who is a senior aid. He's also a Nam vet and a really good man. He is actually the one I would go to first. Please feel free to tell him I suggested you call him. I came home to check e-mail and to shower and change clothes - now I'm heading back to the hospital. Earl's doing well, but the knee recovery is going to take some time. Faith, Patty anybody from Phoenix if this helps use it. Be careful out there

This is from January but thought it was still worthy of posting. I thought that maybe someone else would have had it on the site by now. Maybe some of you read it in your local paper - that is where I found it. Stevens Point Journal (Stevens Point Wisc.) January 8, 2005 “VETERANS ANGRY OVER HOUSE REP’S FIRING By Dennis Camire WASHINGTON – Veterans groups, outraged over the House republication leadership’s firing of Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., as chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, say the move was politically driven in retribution for Smith’s successful advocacy of veterans issues. Adding insult to injury, GOP leaders decided less than a day later to boot Smith off the committee of which he has been a member for 24 years. ‘The ouster …was clearly a politically driven decision, not one based on performance,’ said John Furgess, who heads the Veterans of Foreign Wars. ‘What’s being communicated loud and clear across the country is that your job is in jeopardy if you put principles before politics.’ William A. Boettcher, national commander of AMVETS and a Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam, said his group was ‘deeply disappointed’ by Smith’s removal. Smith is a ‘staunch supporter’ of veterans’ issues and could always be counted on to do everything in his power to see they were treated justly and with respect by the nation, Boettcher said. The sentiments were reflected in comments coming from other veterans around the country. ‘I think it’s atrocious,’ said Hollis Stanford, a retired Army paratrooper who lives in Springfield MO. ‘The Republicans are just doing all they can do to keep from doing anything for veterans. Anybody who helps the veterans, they’re kicking out.’ Since Smith took over as chairman of the House Committee in 2001, he has authored 13 laws and shepherded several others aimed at improving veterans’ benefits. The ousting of Smith, who should have had two more years to serve as chairman under Republican rules, was the first time a sitting chairman had been removed since Republicans won control of the House in 1994. But Smith raised the ire of House Republican leaders by consistently fighting for higher veterans spending than they or the Bush administration wanted. Several veterans groups saw Smith’s firing and the appointment of Rep. Steve Buyer, R-Ind., as the new committee chairman as a sign of tough times ahead for health, pension and other benefit programs designed to help the nation’s 26 million veterans. ‘I think we are going to see major recommendations for cuts in programs coming out in the (Bush) administration’s new budget’ for the Veterans Affairs Department, said Richard Fuller, national legislative director for Paralyzed Veterans of America.” It looks like the veterans won’t be getting any new assistance for at least “4 MORE YEARS”! It will be a long 4 years. Jim Hydinger

Hey paul, thanks for that site.It list my roomies.I had never heard an "official"account of why they crashed and burned. There were several rumors floating around at the time, none official.Rick, the ship was landed at some MAC V base,a little tiny place, inland and up river from tuy hoa,in early jan or very late dec. After landing( this was the closest and safest place),we inspected the aircraft and found tourque screws and rivets missing near the tail boom. The aircraft was declared "red x" due to over tourqing.A chinook was then dispacthed to sling the broken bird home, with in the next few days,or sooner, perhaps the same day.The MAC V guys didnt want it there as it was just an inviting target for a mortor barrage later.I wish I could remember where I spent new years eve that year.

fred; if you go to www.armyaircrews.com you might be able to look up the incident. click on the type of aircraft and it will go to a page listing crashes as far back as the mid 80s. go to the bottom of that page and you will find a listng for nam with different years. click on the appropriate year and you will get a listing of all crashes that happened that year, along with listing of crew and official cause of the crash paul

Fred I have the CD on that, if you have the tail # I can get the info if it is in the gold book. Not all incedent reports are there. H models have the pitot tube on the top. some D models were converted. from t53-L11 to T53L13's. We had A models converted to B models also by putting L 9s. Gus can confirnm that on the gunships. We had no cobras at that time. Any info on any shipo in RVN including cranes, lohs, 58s, and 34s can forget the shithooks.

Hey Alvis.. Hi And I hope Susan is doing well.. The main diff between a H and a D was the L-13 engine and the overhead peto(?) tube. At least as I remember.. We had mainly D models untill the first part of 68. I remember flying a old D down to Siagon and getting a new H.. Sure was a lot of difference with the extra couple hundred horses!!.. Take care.. The one me and gabby were on? It could of been a "D" model but kinda think it was a "H" model. I cant even remember the difference between a "d" and a "H" model anymore.Does sliding doors,a passenger door behind the pilots seats and a "L- 13 lycoming engine make sense, and the gunners well.

George, I hope you see this message of hope and good luck before your surgery tommorow. It was nice talking with you again last week. We will be thinking of you and your wife tomorrow and the following days hoping that all turns out great. Fred and Susan, my wishes of luck go out to both of you to on your long journey. I see your posts every day and I feel that your love and courage will help Susan beat this monster. Kenneth got his letter of denial for ptsd a month ago. They siad they are sure he has ptsd but that it certainly wasnt service related. It seems the army records have him stationed at Qui Nhon and a litter bearer for 6 months, when in reality he was at Lane Field for 3 months in the motor pool for the last 3 months of that time and never carried a litter even though his original MOS was medic. Trying to prove the records of the 498th are wrong is gonna be a long road and sure isnt helping his ptsd either. Im here everyday and feel like a part of your family, even if I seldom post. Luck to each and all. Kathy

thanks everyone for the well wishes and e-mails.I was just feeling kinda helpless yesterday, and proud.Well, today Susan ask me to cut her hair, her scalp was just to sensitive to support hair.Believe me, I am in no way,to be considered a barber.I now jokingly call her tiger cause of all the strips I left after cutting her hair with sissors. She is now one of those ladies you sometimes see with bandanas on their heads.Ok, I have the next 2 days off and am going to try to call irs with the many questions I have about the fed form I have to fill out for tax exempt.Ron stopped work last week and i showed him the form.Like me, he just shook his head. But, its progressing, slowly, but still going forward.Havent heard from the state yet, should be soon. Now I know why lawers make such big bucks, they have to simply to buy enough asprin for the headaches they get from reading federal forms.I think I ran into my first "wannabe" desert storm" person. He told me he " caught" ptsd over there then ask me if i knew what it was.smile.I told hime ,"yes,I was a door gunner in Nam and have been fighting va since 86".He then when on to tell me how is father was a "3 or 5 tour nam vet".Now,this may have been true, but I kinda $%$#@!@# doubt it.Shaking my head here and thinking it sure does take all kinds in this world.I just dont understand the poor pitiful folks that need to do that.Mark, courage is found in many places ,in many different forms.Vietnam,or any battle field,is a breeding ground for it.Its also the breeding ground for the oppisite. The 129th,being in nature,a sometimes combat unit, usually exposed courage that we read about in books and admire...macho stuff, blood ,guts, bullets flying, going into incomming fire cause folks were depending on you,or simply flying, day after day, hour after hour. But there is also a quiet, personal courage. You saw it in both Steve and Susan Spencer at the xmas party last year.Fear knows no boundries,we see it every day in our lives. It can sometimes be mixed with courage. It usually is.It doesnt take a coward to put the bottle down, but a act of courage. It doesnt matter what the act is based on..love,desperation,friendship,duty,knowing whats right,or simply servival.

Susan, I read your wonderful husband's account of your trails.......I have tears in my eyes. When Fred compared it to "The Courage" in Vietnam, there was a roar in my ears that went down to my heart and turned me insideout as a exploding star becomes a black hole.We pray for you sister and brother. Alvis, so sorry Susan has to go through this. Still praying for her everyday. I was wondering as well....do you think I could make her a little something? I know her skin is sensitive but I would like to make her something. Let me know if you think that would be ok. Hope all are doing well. Apricot trees are bloomed out here only to be freezed out in a few weeks or so. Other than that been doing pretty well.

chemo day + 2.The reactions to chemo ,week 2 have already begun. Its a day early.Last night as I took my after work shower,Susan stood in front of the bathroom mirror, running her fingers thru her hair.Gobs of it were comming off in her hand. She was still doing it when i finished showering. This evening, returning home from work,I saw my beautiful wife with hair thaT was as thin as a 70 year old mans. There are bald patches, the bangs are gone. She went outside and the wind was blowing, lifting her hair in the breeze. It hurt her almost to tears, her scalp is so sensitive.I rubbed her back sholders,or tried to,the pain is like a bad sunburn. She has a cough. She has the runs.she has nausea. She is very tired,3 naps today,is sleeping now in front of the tv.She only eats enough for an eight year old.She has lost 9 pounds this past 2 weeks. She has crying spells. She gets ulcers in her mouth and throat. Her nails are turning white and cracking. Her eyes feel like sand is in them.Yet,thet lady is still trying on help people in the cancer site she goes into. That lady is still trying to keep a well kept house. She wants to cook for me,give me a nice supper.Courage is found in many places,I saw alot of it in vietnam,I see it today.Damn, i have a wonderful wife.

Thought you Guys would like this!!!!!!!!!! I'm forwarding this E-mail, because after reading it I know that it could easily been sent to any one of you and not to me. I would also like to add a special thinks to all of you, for all the times you were there for me then and for the friendship we now sheer. God Bless You All, Baron From: R D Sent: Friday, March 04, 2005 5:47 PM To: petenolen Subject: Hello from the past! Pete, I seriously doubt you will remember me from our shared days in VietNam, but I have wondered for more than a few years how you made out after I left. I was callsign "Crash" from the 1st Slick Platoon, and don't think I ever took the time to actually thank you for all the times you covered my butt on insertions, and at least once that I doubt I would have survived without you getting between me and a nasty gook looking to shorten my flying career. So, thank you on behalf of my wonderful wife, children, and grandchildren! Last night I got home from my 7 day hitch, and the phone rang. It was one of my gunners who had been looking for me for years, and finally found me. We had a pretty good conversation, but it was sad, too, when I found out my crew chief didn't make it. I was there the day he volunteered to fly low bird on a sniffer mission and they were shot to doll rags. I pulled them out, and flew them to the hospital, but he never left it, and I never knew until yesterday. Anyway, I used some of the info he gave me, and started looking for someone that could help me find you. Cobra Bishop was the first attempt, and I hit paydirt! So, here I am still in Lafayette after all these years and still hoping to find out how you have been doing. I hope I haven't dredged up bad memories, but I couldn't delay this any longer. I have worked for PHI since May '71, and have thought of you every single time I drove to Morgan City all these years. Unfortunately, I didn't have a last name to go with your callsign, and all I really remembered was you were from there. Are you still living near, or in MCY? I would really enjoy getting together for dinner some time, not really to rehash old times, but to see an old friend that I feel like I have a debt I cannot ever repay. If you can bear to have dinner with someone from the past, let me know and I'll give you a call next weekend when I get back to work. Take care... Richard "Crash" Laughlin

Anyway, Welcome Home!! The chatroom works well for me. I am running "XP" here and what I need must be built in, as I didn't have to download anything. I would say that what version you are running would determine if you need to download something extra. The chat room looks like a nice way to have a "face to face". This internet chat stuff is real cool. But why re-invent the wheel. The windows MSN Messenger is already part of the operating system. There is nothing extra you have to download and you can have multiple people in your chat. And what is cooler yet, you can have visual and audio chat also!!!! All you have to do is set up a free hotmail account. Then in messenger you can set up a group called 129th and when anyone from the 129th that is on your contact list signs in a little notice pops up. If anyone would like to know any more info on this just send me your phone number and I will give you a call, or if you have msn messenger and want some info my contact is RickardAllanJensen@hotmail.com. I use it alot to talk with my daughters in Minnesota and Colorado. That way I can talk and see them and the grand children. Anyway it's a beautiful day. Turned 53 today. Life is wonderful. God Bless and take care.

What a surprise I had last night...Arthur Foster, a former gunner from the 129th that flew with me on many missions called to say hello. After a nice conversation, he informed of this web site. I couldn't wait to take a look, and then got my second surprise of the evening. One of my pics was posted with a ? asking who. The pic is posted under Bill Hewitt's pics, and is on page 6, photo #7 on the page. I am flying right seat and looking over my left shoulder for the photo. It would please me a great deal if you could put my ID on the pic, in hopes other former friends would know I am still around and kicking...and yes, still flying choppers for a living!
