For anyone wanting the information on golf carts at Kokomo, the contact is Diane @ Golf Cart Central Inc. Phone number is 765-963-6912 or the email address is gccinc@bluemarble.net and that maybe a better way just to check. They will be contacting people who already asked for carts this year in a couple weeks.

Hey Bill, have a safe trip. As far as the "no" entertainment, which I didnt hear whys about it till after wards, well I thought that that was the way the dinner night was suppose to go. I commented to a couple of people that night that I think the way you guys set it up was the best way yet. To hold the auction first then just let everbody mingle and talk and I said that I thought the way you did it was great. Not knowing that they DJ was a no show. If you ask me the way it worked out was perfect and maybe you can make a suggestion to the leaders that at least I liked it that way.You could save the VHCMA some money by not haveing entertainment and just letting it go like it did this year. What does anybody else think about that? It gave everybody a chance to get together with their unit and say their goodbyes and stuff or just do what evver they wanted to...........always a brother............

Well, Kat & I leave St Louis tomorrow morning and head back to Colorado Springs. We've been doing some family research here. Had a great thunderstorm today and knocked out the power in our area. After an exhausting investigation into the entertainment for the Saturday Dinner, I, a 27-year veteran cop, have uncovered the truth. Apparently we hired last years entertainment for a repeat performance. However, our entertainer was hijacked at the back door by Wink. Hotel staff recalls a goofy toothed, dazed eyed old man running off with our entertainer shouting, "She's mine....er, I mean he...no wait, it's MINE!". I know all of you would have loved the encore performance, but life is cruel. Okay...the truth is there was to be a professional DJ who simply didn't show. As a Board member, I will try to ensure that it doesn't happen again...the DJ not showing up I mean...not Wink hijacking his true love! Bill

Fred S. that's a good question. My bet is no... Why do you ask? Have you got something you haven't told us?........ Mark, I looked at Bill Wolf's pictures and I do remember seeing that Schekstaul (sp) guy around the company area. Most of us guys that flew were up and gone at dawn and often not back until dark. If we did get back durning the day we had to take care of the ship. Post flight, fixing any broken safety wire, etc. So lots of times we were seeing people in the company area when it was dark.

Well, it's the 25th and Joe and I finally got home. Joe went out to have a smoke prior to boarding our one hour flight home and missed the flight. I had the airlines let me out of the plane and went looking for Joe...couldn't find him. So, I'm meandering all over the #$%%$* place and finally several hours later, I tried to get another flight----hoping Joe had done the same thing. Unfortunately for me, I found out that all flights to Milwaukee were full until Monday afternoon. Meanwhile Joe did catch a flight and called me from Dallas while in a lay-over. He also had to wait until Monday for a flight-so we both slept in the airports Sunday night. On Monday I caught my flight, which ended up having mechanical problems so I sat on the tarmack for 8 hours. We finally took off and were detoured to Minneapolis, where there was suppose to be a crew ready to fly us on to our next destination..you got it..no crew until Tuesday morning...which actually became Tuesday evening-the red eye at 12AM. Meanwhile Joe was having problems of his own. He got bumped twice in Dallas. The next available flight at 8PM Monday night was an 10 hour round-a-bout flight to Milwaukee.....which he took. Believe it or not, he got bumped again in Tennesse. Next flight 1AM Wednesday morning. So, we're both home now..tired ..but home. I will write about the wonderful, wonderful re-union once I've caught up with myself. Love you all----you are family. love-Gently

Alvis, as aperson who is now 10 yrs since I came off of disabilty, I learned the rules of the game pretty quickly. I was just notified that I have re earned the required 40 quarters needed to be eligilible to file. Now is is the good part, if I die before my X wife she gets first dibs on my benefits before my current wife does. When I applied for disability in 95 all I had to do was take my doctor info to the interview and 5 months later received a ltr telling me when my payments would start and howmuch I would get each month. I now plan to start receiving payment 4 yrs from my next birthday, unless I need to return to Disabilty before then. I have a open case file due to my Cardiac Classification. And yes, spouses can draw your SS benifits, but catch is you must be deceased. Moost of these facts are on their website. Good luck, time to go make my milk delivery now.

I was stationed in Ft Eustis,VA for about 3 yr. I didn't know they had a flight school their. My MOS was 54E Chemical Staff Spec. They put me in a truck outfit to start
with and I got myself transfered to the Chemical school on post. From their I went to
Fort Knox and stayed a year and from their to Vietnam where I was transferred to the
129th and put in the Gun platoon to start with and later wound up in the slicks as a gunner. I really didn't get to meet alot of the people. I wasn't really told anything
about what duties I had or even what platoon I was in. All I knew was the crewcheif that
told me when we had a flight and I did do alot of flying. I hope that all had a good time
at the reunion and got home safely. God bless all

Alvis, Art is right that it is what they do to everyone and most just give up. Also you are not the only one that is upset with things here and that is why I write my Congressmen about every month to point out me feelings. Two of the things he has already done something about. I get so mad I almost see red some days, but I won't give up and let them win either.

Fred, Been there and done that. When I couldn't work I couldn't draw unemployment. Than SSDI said I couldn't do my 50K a year job but I could work someplace making at least $836 a month, not sure were that amount comes from or what it meant. I took that back to the unemployment office and showed them so they signed me up. Than I went through the time drawing $390 a week until it was gone. I did apply for a bunch of jobs sending out my Resume' for what my degree is in. Didn't even have to talk to anybody as I got nothing back except two places telling me no thanks. Now at 26 months waiting for a hearing in Indy.
Ken Strong Jr.
Lafayette, IN USA - Monday, June 23, 2008 at 18:35:01 (MDT)
Alvis, for the unemployment, you need to explain her situation to an attorney. A good attorney will usually tear them up at the hearing. Of course, that's only temporary. As for disability SS, she needs a Dr in her corner to write a letter to them. The "less than 10 years" might nip that. I dunno....good luck. Gale

rolling acros the desert the other day, looking at the life that lives
there. One catus, arms spread to the heavens, was dead. She seemed to have
given her all to the birthing of many children,as time passed. She
now ,in her last selfless act,was giving herself back to the desert.
Other catus, were intertwined, looking like new lovers, out on the
desert floor.Roadrunners, darting off the road,at the sound of my
truck, latter returning, looking for that tasty diner, laying on the
desert floor.Fling desert life, such as it was,was splattered across
my windshield.Snakes sunning themelves on the blacktop, havalienes
(wild pigs) munching away, unconcerned with the passing traffic, and
rooting away for another goodie only they appreciate. Other
catus, hole in their bodies from being pecked for homes, sheltering
untold generations of new winged life. No people,no homes nor
fences, just land, unfolding, guarded by towering blue or purple
mountians,streaching off into the hazy horizen.No grass,no trees,no
shade,no water.A wild but deadly quiet, life spread thinly thru the
sage thickets, finding sparse shade in the heat of the day.Rolling
along,70 foot long,80 thousand pounds, just a tiny speck in the
landscape, swirling up dust,a bit of shade passing through at 60 miles
an hour.Its a lonely landscape,a hard one.I passed by Chochiese's
stronghold,a towering mountian,mostly rock and dry,dry earth.How a
man,a people,a nation, survived in this place says a lot for
courage, strenght, determanation. My hat is off to those early
peoples, strong willed as they surley must have been.

Flight, Debbie & I made it home about 5 pm...just now getting on here. I agree, might have been the best reunion yet.......not that any are bad. I think there was close to 30 actual 129th members that signed in, plus their families. Next year is "LZ RENO",so, start making your plans. Always a brother, Gale

Hey Gang, it was so awesome to see so many of the 129th at the reunion. I'm sorry I didn't get to spend more time with you in the room, but had to put time in doing reunion duties. Jim from Dustoff - it was great to have you join us!! To all of you who were there for the first time, I know you had a good time. Kal and Pete - thanks to the pilots who always join us - we were a team!!! To everyone, thank you for the privilage of being the VHCMA president this past year and for being my brothers and sisters. The 2009 will be at the Atlantas Hotel in Reno (my birthplace). Kat & I have stayed there before and it is VERY nice. I know it's a bit "west", but please make the effort to be there. Kat and I are still in St Louis but leaving tomorrow to let her do some genealogy work in Illinois and a few other locations. I'll get some video information out shortly. Again, loved seeing all of you!!! Always a Brother: Bill

Hey!! Another great VHCMA reunion under the belt.. I think this one was one of the best even and was very well planed and exicuted!.. Just got in and unloaded the bike. I did run into a few rain drops but not enough to worry about as I did a little dodging and picking of best routes which worked out well as it did look like some major storms around me at times but luckily they seemed to be moving out of the way just in time.. Had a great time and think most of the others did too, and it was great seeing so many newbees there too. Welcome!!.. C U L8r... Kal...>>>

Rhonda, there are several different sections to the book. The first is the hitor of our unit. The second is a listing of ALL our KIAs and a short message,or story,on how, when and why they died.Third is pictures, generaly day to day or the usual horseplay/poiseing. The next section is stories written by some of the guys,as they remembered it. We refer it as "TINS". (dont ask).Next is a few "then and now" pics. The end chapter is about Phil and the wonderfully restored "509,Miss Jo" bird.

Hi Rhonda Jordan... welcome to the 129th web site. No one's minding the store, as several are off to the reunion in St. Louis. I believe there are a few books left, but only Bill Wolf knows how many. It is a history of our unit that Bill put together. You might be able to find a photo of Michael Walker in it. I don't have access to my copy, but I'll forward your note and eddress to him (he's at the reunion too). Thanks for checking in, and for your father's service.

Hi All - Sorry its has taken me so long to get here! Flew with the 129th out of Lane Oct 69-70 and then was based at Hunter Army Airfield. Still flying rotor&fixed wing all these years. Spent 20 years in Indonesia then a few in Mali, Africa and the last few in Afghanistan based out of Kabul flying King Air 200's. It was great looking at all the pictures. Got to dig out mine on slides and get them into digital and will send them out for all of you to see. Can only fly 4 more years to 65 then guess I will have to settle down ! Great to be a part of the 129th again, in my heart I never left!

1st, I was in the Army long enough to understand how the MOS worked. If your remember the gunner was a 67A1F, or the shit at the bottom of the list where the F should for flight status. So you than had 67N10, 20, 30 & 40 set by Rank. So any of those would not mean Combat Duty in Vietnam by themselves without the "F" at the end. The very first orders I got in the 129th was for Flight Status as a 67N2F. One copy to the flight records, CO & to Finance. Guys, anyone that is trying to back up claims, did through your records yourself at the VA for anything showing your time in Nam. Than get a hold of the guys that were there while you were for orders or letters to back you up. PS, for my time in the 129th it showed me as a 67N20, UH-1 Helicopter Repairman. That doesn't show I did anything but work in the hanger. The medals were my proof. Last of all, Kal, we want to go up there again and if so I will let you know in Advance..

Good Afternoon Flight: Well, back from getting more mir's done on my feet and ankles. Hope to hear something by Friday 13th. A great Day for some good news? also my 62nd Birthday. I guess we need a huge party for all the Birthday Brothers and Sisters of the 129th!! Alot of talk about the VA. And Records. You can either email me. Or, if you are attending the reunion. I will be glad help put you on the right track. You also, need to send a request in to St. Louis for a complete 201 file. When comes to flight records!! unless you got copies before leaving Vietnam. Your only hope. Is some of the crew you flew got theirs. My biggest help was a letter written by C.P Bloomfield. It explain the purpose of the crewchief. On the 214 our mos was 67n20 a helicopter repairmen. The VA doen't understand that a 67n20 was a crewchief. In the last few years I have tried to educate these folks. Plus, the folks at the VA whom decides claims filed. Have never seen combat and most has never been the military. As I said we need to educate the VA. But, don't get confused. The hospital is a completely different part of the VA. See all attending the reunion next Week. Always A Brother!!

Jumping in with the same old info.. Call Social Security this morning, Hearing time in Indy is now up to 27 months. Alvis, When they turned me down the first time I took the letter to the unemployment office. So even though I had a letter from a doctor saying I shouldn't work, SSI said I could so got the Unemployement til it ran out. DOC, not everything needs to be on the DD214, if you can get pay info showing Flight Pay or anyone here that might have you on a set of orders for any medals. Last of all, your local VA Reg Office should have your medical records and you can go look at them for anything to do with flying in Nam. Last of all if you got guys on here that were with you, have them write letters to the VA stating what they knew about your position there with thier SSN's on the letters. They can than verify who they are against what you are telling them. Main thing regaurdless of your MOS is to show you were not setting around in the rear somewhere which is what I had to prove to them to get my rating. Hope this helps you guys. Fred tell your wife I understand about the feet as I told my doctor that even Morphine doesn't stop the burning & pain while trying to walk. All bros take care!!

well guys,I am out of the loop,so for patches and things,go to Bill.I just am not home often, and long enough...The goverenment crap strikes again..Susan had to quit work..her feet just got to bad to stand for long periods.Soo..we apply for unemployment while she searches for a "sit down" job. Waiting 9 weeks..get a letter that says neither she,nor her work, is to blame for her leaving the job..HOWEVER,they judge her so bad that he cannot work at all so is NOT qualified to recieve unemploment. So now,we have to go jump thru the hoops at social security, waiting from 3 months to 9 months...just to find out if they will give it to her. Damn, she should have come over as an illegal.Sometimes I question just why I support this goverenment. They screw everbody.

Alvis, James here, I went throught the same thing. What I did was use the history of the
129th. I coppied all the missions and such and turned it in to my VA officer and he sent
everything in for me. Other wise they will claim they never got it. After a couple of
months they sent me the papers to see a head doctor. He must tell them you have it. It has
taken me 18mo to get this far. I hope this will help. Also you want to get all the records
you can. Health,History and any others. I have been trying to get my pay records but no
luck so far. Hang in their and keep trying and don't give up. Best of Luck

While I was grounded I worked in the Orderly rm as Awards and Decorations clerk. The backlog on air medals was about 6 months so we did multiple awards @ one time. Even did about 100 ARCOMS. As for wings the AR stated you could be on flight status and not earn "Wings" . The Aviation Badge as it's known by now was only awarded by completion of Aviation (67xxx) schools. Sorry I wish I had a better answer. Won't make it 2 St Louis as I will be in CA for birth of grandbaby.

Doc, I don't know if this will help, but..... My flight records are DA form 759. Flight physical was on Medical Examination form standard form 88. Assignment form was DIWAA. I have a local order titled 'CERTIFICATE, which says I completed weapons training, signed by our Operations Officer, along with a local order whuich affirms that a bunch of us were placed on flight status.
Good luck

Alvis---the damn DD214 tells basically nothing, which I'm finding out in my struggle with
the beloved VA over my PTSD claim. They feel my 2 tours during 68-70, the very height of the war, was an extended tropical vacation. Almost nothing of my awards or exploits is
mentioned on it and they base their decisions on the damn thing. I have complete address
where you can write for your records---leave message on Flt. log for Bill Whelan, my buddy, and I will post to Log for you. H. DOC Geeve crew chief, 21st RAC ship #665

Kal, we just went to the Dunes State Park here in Indiana. We got back last night & like Gale my cabin was surrounded by a lake. The water was still pretty high as the Sun went down so we are ready to dry out. All take care..

Mark, sounds like a close call. The flood waters don't bother us here, although,my little shed is almost surrounded. Feather creek is out and has Clinton divided, lots of limbs down, etc! Hope everyone is safe....

Was in INDY today for the grand kids ball games. That storm Gale, made the one grand kid's game get canceled around 7:00. Then we ate out and Dee and I took off on the bike for home. The front had gone through already and we rode right behind the storm all the way home. By the time we pulled in the drive the storm had just passed through our AO about 1/2 hour a head of us. Got home and took a flashlight out into the woods. Big Shaggy Bark Hickory next to the house just grazed the west side of the house but wiped out that lil' shelter house just next to the porch on the west side of the cabin. Close call. Branches all over the forest though. Thank God that's all that happened and that Dee and I did not run into the storm on the way home. Lou, Larry and Wink. Gonna miss seeing you guys. and meeting you Lou..................always a brother........

I wanted to say again I was really feeling down about not getting to make it to St Louis but really would have liked to see Larry & Tom also. We did just try something where I laid down with a neck brace & pillow while we went to Lake Michigan the past couple days. It really helped with less pain than driving into town. Also been setting in my cabin getting sea sick. The storm that just came through had it rocking in the wind. Last of all two sites are paid for for the Kokomo Reunion, 429 & 629 West. Still trying to get two more so we have four altogether. All take care!!

Lou: You and your wife are in our thoughts and prayers. There will always be another reunion somewhere. Family is always first. You, Larry Lacky and Tom Pedersen will be missed. Also, Wink called me stating he couldn't make the reunion also. Well, this will be the 10th aniverary of the 129th reunion. The 1st was in 1998 with Glenn Pearmain and myself in Irving Texas. Since then we have grown. I thank Mark Jackson for his help. He has helped me to fill a vision of uniting men of the 129th once again. As, we get older. We start to come out of the closet. And, whom can understand the feelings of Vietnam better. 129th Brothers we served with. The 129th has truly becme a family to all of us. We have shared in the good and the worst times. But, were always there for each other. Always A Brother!!

Hi flight, have'nt posted for some time. Been feeling ill for awhile, was planning on attending the reunion this year with my wife, but as we all know fate steps in and throws us a curve ball. My wife was rushed to the hospital with servere stomach pains, turns out she had a blocked bowel and needed emergency surgery, and if that was'nt bad enough she developed sepsis, and was in ICU on a restpirator for 2 weeks. She finally woke up last week, and the doctors said she'll be ok now. She will need alot of rest and PT to get her strenght back. Hope to make it next year

James, keep in mind that "other" GI's were doing our paper work. Unfortunately, some were not as proficient as they should have been. These folks forgot that the "FTA" attitude was only hurting other GI's. On my DD-214 where there is a re-enlistment code it was enter to "see the comments" section. On the comments section it references the re-enlistment code : "EM is released on Temporary Records and soldiers affidavits." My flight records show me flying only for 25 hrs. I was also recommended for the Good Conduct Medal. Needles to say I've never received it. These things mean a lot to me. I ( the man upstairs also knows) where I was & what I did & didn't do. Somewhere there has got to be records. I would say that if you got "Flight Pay" there has got to be Orders for Flight pay. That is one document that you need to seek. Hopefully you can get that remedied. I know that "my" wings mean alot to me. Man I've said a mouthful. I'm Otta here. Clear left. Dawg 426 out.

Oh how things can change. I won't be able to attend reunion cause of a recent severe reaction to one of the meds docs wanted to add. Sometimes they need to quit with results they have. You all have a great reunion. Hope to see you all sometime in future. Tom Pedersen is recovering although he pushed returning to work to early and has had to adjust his thinking to current recovery level.

James you might try this...You can seek info by filling out “standard form 180”, which is a “Request Pertaining to Military Records” and sending it to National Personnel Records Center, 9700 Page Ave., St. Louis, MO 63132-5100……This is where our records are kept……..Both personnel records and Health records…..Hope this helps……..A Brother Always….Matt Casey

Can anyone tell me why I was never issued any wings for being a gunner in the 129th. I have been asked this by the VA. After all the years that have gone by I have to prove everything and their are very little records that I can get to. I served as a gunner
and logged alot of flight time. Sometimes I think the VA thought we were suppose to record
everything we did. I can remember all the missions as if it were yesterday but not the dates or time I did them. I know it has been along time and the people I flew with arn't
on this site. And after all these years I don't remember names. I know we all have our own problems to dead with and from what I have read some have alot of medical problems
to deal with. I do wish all of my brothers well and only goods news for you all.

Jim, really try to get Mike to attend the whole event. I remember when Mark talked me into attending my first reunion. I was really apprehensive and even told Kat a week before the reunion that I didn't think I wanted to go. But, as we all found out, the reunions are fantastic, healing, great laughs, tears, and brotherhood. I have talked with many members and this is an almost universal feeling. We all know Mike will never want to miss another one. Got a phone call from Phil in England yesterday. He is sending me a box of 129th / 509 items to auction at our room or sell. He then wants us to take the money and have a drink on Phil, Simon, and crew. Sounds like a plan!! I head out to California tomorrow for a week of work, then back here for 3 days, then back out to California for a few more days teaching. Then Kat and I are leaving on the 14th to drive to the reunion (making a few stops on the way). Can't wait to see you all there and have another fabulous reunion!! Always a Brother!!! Bill
