Dak Sei Ang!!!! North Witcher and I and crew, took a MACV advisor(Col. Book) up there. The base-camp had been "over-run" about three days before. We sit right down in the middle of the camp with no "gun support" or anything. Col. Book got out of the ship and walked around like it was nothing. Reminded me of the Robert Duval character in "Apocalypse Now". Then he got back on the ship and then ask Mr Witcher to "fly low" around the tree tops and "draw fire". Yea Right.......Mr. Witcher sure could articulate his "point-of-view, when he got upset. Mr. Witcher was a "practicing Christian" and told Col.Book..... No.... so elegant that the Colonel hardly knew how to reply.....so we headed back to Kontum

Thanks Jw. havent had time to view yet. Flight, you guys can file for free (Taxes) by going to the tax web site. Sites are listed under www.irs.gov Some conditions apply, amount of money made ect. Some also file state for free, some dont. If you can, I recomend taxslayer site. I had to use h and r block this year. They do not offer state file for free but charge 10 bucks, the federal is free. good luck to all. Hello flight, hope everyone is surviving the winter. We've had snow here for 25 straight days now. (of course i live 5 miles from Lake Ontario) Sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Noble. As for the comings and goings in fixed wing aircraft, I came in to Cam Rahn Bay in 69 on a 727 and left on a Flying Tiger from the same place in 70. Had to crew my own ship out because we couldn't find enough people to fly at that time. Mark, it was nice talking to you the other night, and i hope you find someone to buy the bar. Ray Gagner, I hope you and yours are doing good. I called the Pokemon yesterday to get an update on my situation, but didn't get a return call. Maybe today. We just keep pluggin' along.I got this e-mail the other day and wanted to pass it on to you all................./////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////While I was searching the Internet today for news about Noble, I found your website and thought someone would want to know the following: Atilla (A.N.) Noble was killed in a car accident outside of Monticello, MN yesterday 1/26/04 when a semi truck crossed the median on I-94 and hit Noble's car. His wife (my husband's cousin) is still in the hospital in serious condition, so I figured she wouldn't be able to notify people very soon. There is an article in the St. Cloud newspaper online regarding the 38 deaths nationwide due to storms yesterday, and a paragraph concerns this accident. http://miva.sctimes.com They had just taken two wonderful trips in 2003 to China and Peru.///////////////////////// ///////////This is Mark again............Atilla was one of the very first guys I found from the 129th 6 years ago. His name was on some of Larry's extracts so I did a web search and found him. He knew and flew with Larry a few times and told me these stories. He recalls flying back to LANE and close to Phu Cat AFB one day and Larry keyed the mike and yelled BREAK LEFT,BREAK LEFT!!!!....all of a sudden a C-130 that had taken off from Phu Cat, missed them by a few feet. He said Larry saved all their lives that day by seeing it comeing......the other story was that one day he was with Larry and his ship in the field waiting to pick up some packs and they had just been issued some Balistic Flight Helmets. Atilla was over buy the ship when he heard a .45 cal being emptied of it's magzine. He turned to see Larry laughing with the "smoking gun" in his hand and his helmet on the ground in a thousand pieces saying " Hell, that helmet never would of stoped a bullet"!!!!!!!!....he also told me that Larry was probably one of the "NO FAKE" guys he ever met in Vietnam........Lets have a moment of silence for our brother Atilla...................................................Hey Atilla. Say hey to the 129th'ers up there..........I love you guys, Mark...........click,click

After 3 days of delayed and cancelled flights home, I saw that red bird shuttering down the runway and thought that after a year over here they are going to kill me on the way home (ha)I was with the 197th Avn Co at Lawson field in 66-67. Right across the street from the airborne training. I remember the spots in Columbus you have mentioned very well. Even the hamburger drive in joint. I guess some memories never die, thank goodness. I don't know who owned Tiger Airlines but I do know a stretch 8 was an awful piece of aircraft. You know, at the tender age we were making us fly on it should have been considered child abuse. Came home on same plane with Cups, North and Rich Laughlin(SP?) and if I remember correctly it was a real nice Pan Am 747. I guess if you survived your tour they were afraid of an uprising if they tried to make you fly Tiger home. Some war huh?

Well....looks like everyone is getting...Kerry-ed away..... with their commo. Sure enough...Jim W., Lady Bird had big stock in Bell Helicopter. Yea...during that era...a lot of money was made and careers were enhanced. Just a little sidenote here.....Last couple of days being couped up in the house.....because of the ice.....I was sittin around thinking....that`s a scary thought in itself. But when I was a little kid I wanted to work for Halliburton....I didn`t want to be a fireman or policeman...I wanted to be a "oil well driller"....My father, after WW2 had finished,he went back the to U. of West Virginia( Class of 48) and completed his degree in a "new field" called...Petroleum Engineering....new breed of "oil well driller". His first job out of the gate was with a company called Halliburton Oil. My father`s position on a "fraking crew" or "shooting crew". They blew out a "pocket" or reservoir for the oil to fill up and be pumped after they had drilled the well and discovered oil. This was accomplished buy putting "frozen Nitro" down the well hole about 3,000 or 4,000 feet and dropping a stick of dynamite down the hole and running like hell. In 1959, this was the coolest thing , this 9 year old kid ever seen. That`s how they would do it, when drilling for oil "back east". For 5 more summer`s, I would spend and follow my father around the oil fields Kentucky and West Virginia. I watched every aspect of a oil well from the surveying of the site thru the fraking and "drilling into pay sand(or dirt out in Texas). They stopped "shooting wells" in about 1961 and switch to "fraking" which untilized more pressure and chemicals. The pressure being supplied by two General Electric Jet Engines.....and my dad would be the one operating them......I would feel like the "King of the World" kid......But disagreements and "alcholism" would make my father and Halliburton part ways....My father would finish his career with Ashland Oil......same old story....diffrent day. But I remember my dad saying," Those Halliburton people are a bunch of crooks, they`re gonna bust them wide-open someday". I wonder what he was talking about??????

tried the copter Larry, best was 380, i'll try again later, you're right, it isn't as easy as it looks. I also heard at one time that Lady Bird had a lot of stock in Bell Helicopter (Fort Worth) Make sense??? Also though I greatly support our troops, it appears we are getting bogged down in another Vietnam. Look what happened to the Russians in Afghanistan. I thought our original intent was to topple the regime of Hussien, assist in installing a new Govt. & then get the Hell out & let Them deal with their own problems. What ever happened to that??? My dad was transferred there is 58.I grew up out side of sandhill,in capeheart housing area. In 62.dad got orders for vietnam. He was a Marine in ww-2,south pacific, island hopping, combat infintry . He got out for a year.joined the army and got sent to korea for that one.same mos. In 62,he had 22 years in and 2 teenage sons.Guess he thought he had done enough,so he retired to take care of his family. In 71,i got orders to go.Anyway,as I said, I grew up in Columbus Georgia and fort benning.I was in 3rd grade when we moved there.Went to school on post till 63.When I started 7th grade in columbus, things where much different.I started to run into the tipical "army town" mentialty from some of those I knew and went to school with.I also was made aware of the segration that had exsisted for ever down there, and its impact on many facets of life. You all ahve heard of the 3 bATH ROOMS AND 2 WATER FOUNTIANs thing. it was true.and very strange to me.Anyway, yes I do know fort Benning and columbus well.WHEN MY BROTHER WAS GOING TO COLLEGE,He had a job taking laundry out to the ocs school.Sometimes I would go with him.I remember well lower classmen having to stand against the wall when higher classmen would pass and all the crap they took.Chuckle, being young and both of us having long hair got us some very hard looks. As I said, my dad worked at the main px and I have been to both the mesuems, one on main post and the one in sand hill.used to go fishing in upotia creek, out side of sand hilland when sick, went tot martin army hospital ,up on top of that hill. Also used to rent horses not far from there.

Was Bill Calley a war criminal? I have a hard time with that. I had done things over there that I'm not particularly proud of; although nothing on the scale of murder. I've never seen any evidence that Calley or his platoon we're cold blooded killers before they got to Viet-Nam. Who trained them? Who supervised them? Who was responsible? Unfortunatly, in the military, the shit doesn't flow uphill, and Calley and his men were at the bottom of the hill. You just can't tell how a person will react to combat until it's too late. As far as the label "war criminal" goes, I save it for people who profit from War. We ask our troops to make huge sacrifices, but no-one thinks to ask it of the arms makers. Instead, war is an excuse to increase their profits. What kind of sacrifice is that? Remember all the SEA/LAND containers lined up by the hundreds in Qui-Nhon? Someone told me once that Lady Bird Johnson owned that company. Can that be confirmed? I'm sure whoever owned it was made very wealthy bringing us the tools and supplies of war. Who's profiting from war now? With Respect, Greg

Alvis...I'll try and make the world a little smaller. Bill Caley was under house confinement, on Arrowhead Road, in 73. I spent a little time driving the MP's jeep around, as he went for his morning run. His lady friend used to visit, with supervision. There was a free Calley headquarters on 2nd Ave, I think it was there? As has been said, the general consensus was that he was a scapegoat. After all this time, I don't think he was. I got rid of my first wife after a while, and spent a bunch of time down at Steffies, the Juwan Knight club, Chickasaw club...and a whole bunch of knife and gun clubs. Clover Inn, Lucky seven, places like that. I was stationed at Harmony Church, midway between Cusseda and Columbus. I used to love the time zone game....party in Columbus till closing, then head over to Phenix city.

Alex, they put me in a infantry unit getting ready to go to nam {197}. There were only a couple sergeants other than the first who was retiring, so me and another guy (E-4 also) who also had came back from nam became permanent cq. we switch every other night untill we got smart and started doing it a week at a time. I would go to nc my week off and he would go to nj, after about 2 month they had more sergeants to come into company and the supply sergeant squelled on us. Then for about to 2 months I was a rioter, troops were taking riot training and I sat in street or stood behind trees and threw pine cones at them. When we had money we went to phoenix city or cusseda, but about broke we got carlin black label for .15 cents a can at the px.

Dang Kim, world gets smaller every day. My x wife might still be there. My first born ,first born ,might still be there. My brother went to Baker high school there, and columbus college for a while. Me, I went to Hardaway high. Was in the first class when new.My Dad is buried there at fort benning,in the cemetary u pass as u drive towRDS MAIN POST. Ahh,that brings up something you might all have forgotten about, but wondered about. To make a long story short, remember ..its who you know... after my dad passed,my mom was living in an apartment on ft Benning that was Lt. Calleys place when he was confined to quarters and going thru trial.Smikle ,she had his bar that he had left there.Time frame..around 77 or so. Calley had gotten out of the service and was selling new/used furniture out of a place on victory drive.near where bill heard chevy was.Guess he was doing ok.The setiment in columbus during all that, was that calley was getting the short end of the stick.I never met the man, maybe he is still there, the townspeople sure backed him. Course, it is a military town and growing up,all my friends were of military familys.Dqad used to take me out to watch the jump towers as a kid, I did the same with my son.We did most of our mid night drag racing out macon road a ways.Damn near grew up in sand hill, even worked construction at harmony church before the army.If any of you ever went to the main px,my Dad worked there from about 65 till in the 70s.Hey Kim,ask your lady if she knows where i grew up in town, way out forest road, near bull creek. You guys know that john Waynes "green berett" was filmed in columbus and fort benning? The scene where they kidnaped the nva general was a house off wynton road, damn near down town.Dont suppose any of you ,as young guys, ever visted 4th ave ,did you.aint talking helicopters when i say hookers.Yes sir, Hardaway hawks, football team. I was an end for them,we were the only team never to win a game all season.jeeze,so much for walking down memory lane

Victory Drive...Bill Heard U.S.A. Been there, done that! Bought a 73 Chevy pick up, new,for 2700 bucks. Wrecked a 550 Suzuki on Brennan Road, not far from the Clover Inn. Got broadsided by a drunk woman, she hit me hard enough that she broke a tie rod and couldn't get away. J.W., I might find out if that little bar is still there, the lady I'm keeping company with has family in Columbus, we might swing by on our way back north from Florida....Shelby 350, one fast little mother!!! not very stable at speed, as I recall. I always had a love affair with Chevys, guy I chummed with loved Mustangs...made for a lot of good conversations!

I remember that snow storm in columbus georgia. My dad retired there from the military when I was 12. We moved there when I was 8.Left there in jan of 71 (was 20), only been back there a few times and that hasnt een in 15 years i bet.anyway, mom sent me a pic of that storm, was over a foot of snow.I laughed,as i was living in colorado at the time , i think. it snowed every few years when i lived there but it never struck the ground, nor stuck .Ice storms kicked ass tho. Used to go out to fort benning to get gi's to buy us beer when we where under aged.At one time , Bill Heard chevy ,on victory drive, had a bunch of avis rent a cars for sell. they where shelby mustangs, the 350s and 500s. sigh, if i only knew....

Hi flight, Fred S, for some unkown reason to me, everytime a storm comes {ice, snow, or hurricane} everybody rushes out and buys enought bread, milk . and snacks to last several weeks. The only thing I can think of that could cause this was a ice storm in 68 that kept area shut down for about 2 weeks. Kim, I wonder if that little beer joint is still in business in Cusseda?

Flight, as I responded to Alex this morning, I will not take any of your Christmas fund money...for any reason. That money is for 129er's in need...period. Thank you for the kind gesture, but no. Additionally, the Christmas fund was not my idea, the credit belongs to a beautiful and kind 129th brother of yours who wishes to remain unknown. I'm just the bank. And I'm fine, thanks everyone. Alvis,I'll check it out tomorrow. Bangor is 2 hours drive from me. I was up to the SAR unit and climbed all over the Iron Butterfly, before it went to Florida. 3 inches of snow, and the state is shut down??? We just got up to zero this evening!! and it hasn't snowed up here in a couple weeks. I was on Fort benning in Feb of 73, they had the first snowstorm in 57 years, around the 14th. shut down all of southwestern Georgia! I'd just got in from Maine, had a 66 Rambler, with snow tires on it. Made several beer runs down on Victory Drive, even went to Cusseda for alcohol......

Fred, I went over to my parents around noon and counted five cars in the ditch. Like you as a former northern boy I can only chuckle. Decided I am staying home tomorrow because they have the emergency plan in effect which is if you are essential and live within 18 miles they will come and get you. I live 32 and have only missed once(last years ice storm-trees down across road) and each time I have busted my butt people from 2 or 3 miles away say they can not get there. Let's take a trip to ohio or pa just to play in real snow! See ya! PS: Wouldn't beer and beany-weinies be better than bread and milk?

He droped me a e-mail and asked if I would like to come out to the field. His name is Frank Tresenrider was a Crew Chief with the 101st. At the base they had just completed the rebuilding of a "B" model. I can't express the rush of memories I got, when I got to asist as they fired it up. The snapping sound of the igniters and the wine of the turbin as it came to life was great. Even the smell of the ehaust filled me with feelings that I haven't had for 30 some years........One of the best parts of the whole thing was when they told be of another "B" model that they planning to restor that was once with the 129th. Yes my brothers I got to go over and touch one of our own ships. I told them I would love to help restore that ship. All My Brothers & Sisters: I wasn't saying That Gently needed a hand out!! And I sorry if anyone took it in the wrong way. I guess it doesn't pay for me to think. I just thought with all Gently does for us, maybe we could do something for her to show our appreciation. I didn't mean to offend anyone with my thoughts. The fund got some folks to the reunion last year. And will get other folks to Indy!! When I started these reunions, it was to bring us all together. And alot of people work to help me pull these reunions off and to make it that everyone has a great time. So, I am with drawing from having any say for what or to whom the fund should be used. The fund was Gently's idea. And I support it 100%. Always A Brother Alex PS. I think we need to recgonize & show the appreciation to the folks whom put that extra effort to our 129th Brotherhood. Hey Flight, Time I said "Hey" to all. Been busy as heck, but all is well. Let me extend an invitation to any one who needs a place to stay for the reunion. I live ten minutes from the hotel. I can get some mats for the floor. I have a garage for anyone arriving on a scooter. When we fill up the floor we can pitch tents in the back yard. I have two and a half bathrooms. Trees in the back yard if they are full. Two showers. Anyone coming in early, why don't we plan a get together on Thursday evening at my place. We can burn some meat and I might be able to rustle up some real beer and double malt. Might even be able to find some light beer for the limp wristed beer drinkers. I will have to sneak that cheep shit in after dark so no one sees me with it. I am also checking into an extended van to shuttle people around town. Looking forward to a great time. Seeing old friends and meeting new one's. Till then everyone take care. Love and Brotherhood.

Mark wasnt there,Spence called him ,so he came in to vist with us. Mark looks great, lost weight..getting back that school boy figure.Took him a bi- plane rocker I made for his newest grandchild. Mark has even stopped smoking.Jeeze, next he will be (spence said this to us) wearing a white collar.chuckling.Still trying to get a copy of that vcr tape to convert onto a disc. Damn, forgot to ask Mark. GuessI suffer from crs ( cant remember shit). For anyone intrested,Spence (173 airborne) and his people are jumping near the pop a top the last week in july.If one wants to jump, for a hundred bucks, you get 4 hours of ground school in the morning ,then one jump in the afternoon. Susan might do it,I on the other hand, still feel there isnt any god given good reason to jump from a perfectly good airplane while its still in the air. Brrrr,-5 here this evening with the wind chill. Oh, all kidding aside,Mark IS going to sell the pop a top.He is talking about starting a vietnam measuem with the things in the bar.His Dad ( who is doing well but really slowing down) has restored some barns,Mark is thinking of using one.Hope this post finds all the brothers and sisters well and happy.

Fred A.....I haven`t check the web-site your talking about....but Kerry went to college at Yale(Ivy League Liberal Arts) and more than likely was influenced by his peers and so forth. College has that profound effect on a person. Matter of fact....Bush and Kerry are fraternity brothers(cross bones and skull). Pretty secret organization from what I`ve been told. So when Kerry and Bush have a debate.....just remember.....they ARE frat brothers....That`s like the "Free Mason`s".....there is more going on in the background of those two frat brothers. Shit.....those two "rich boys" cracked a bottle of Jack together and did up a few lines and smoked that "big bomber". And as they were leaving the "frat house" together....Kerry said,"See ya in 2004.....Dude" and Bush replied," Right On!!!! Brother".

Fred Alvis, the last time I talk to North Witcher, we talked about walking thru the City of Kontum, when it was "on limits" to Americans and considered "safe"( November,1970). North was a older "more mature" type guy and was aware of the history and the culture of Viet-Nam. He was trying explain certain aspects of the history of Nam......And here I was a 20 year goof-ball kid saying," Yes Sir....I know what you are talking about". And I didn`t have a clue!!!!!!

the following is part of an article taken from the april 26th issue of stars and stripes,RVN. Step One was to take the An Khe pass and cut Route 19 between the coastal supply bases and Pleiku and Kontum. North Vietnamese forces did that two weeks ago and have not budged from the pass. Americans believe the enemy will soon cut the secondary route to the highlands, Highway 21 from Nha Trang. Step Two is to slice up the region some more, cutting Highway 14 between Pleiku and Kontum cities, and Highway 1 between Qui Nhon and the northern districts of Binh Dinh Province, which is the most densely populated province in the country with one million people. Step Three is to start battering the regular Saigon forces in the region. Bruising preliminary battles have already cut several infantry and airborne battalions to pieces. The Kontum battlefield is getting all the attention. But Americans in coastal Binh Dinh see a major enemy effort against the population there. Hoai An District and its 32,000 people were lost last week. Nearby Hoai Nhon District seems destined next, with vulnerable Tam Quan District following. "This means 200,000 people lost, and to think that two months ago we thought the war here was won," said a senior American in Qui Nhon. The pessimistic outlook for Binh Dinh is based on the imbalance of the sides. The North Vietnamese have two tough infantry regiments threatening a couple of South Vietnamese battalions and a handful of regional force soldiers.

I got a new car stereo the other day and it has voice activation software installed into it! If you yell out Rock, it switches the settings to "ROCK"! If you yell out Classical, it switches the settings to "CLASSICAL"! On my way home last night some kids ran out in front of my car. Hitting the brakes I yelled "Fucking Kids" and the radio started playing Michael Jackson

Minus 30 degree wind chills last night and into this morning. They say it might get up to 13 today. It will seem like a heat wave if the damn wind will stop blowing. I wish I still had my Tail rotor bracelet. It got lost along with my Nam slides and my Gibson Guitar somewhere during my drunk years. I had some fun though!!. Once, I was wearing my tail rotor bracelet while working at a cheese and wine shop in Charlotte when an old High school friend (OOgie Johnston) walks in. Most people didn't know what the bracelet was, Oogie not only recognized it, but showed me a ring he was wearing that he made from the drive gear that turned the chain. I hadn't seen him since high school and didn't even know that he had been in country. It turns out he was a crew chief in Nam, but I can't remember who with. I hadn't seen a ring like that before or since, but I can tell you it was pretty cool! Later, Greg

Hello my brothers and sisters! It has been sometime since I've visted. But, I thought it as time if to just say hello and to share a story.I work part time for the American Red Cross as a military/disaster dispatch worker. One night last week a I was passing a death notification to one of the naval units for a one of our youngmen.I spoke with a seaman named Mendez,as I finished my text, I politely asked if the seaman had any family that served before him in the miltary,he returned with a polite and proud yes.Tells me that he had a uncle that was a helicopter mechanic in Vietnam, I inquired what year and he says 1968,he gives me his uncles name as Jose luis Mendez, well guess what? it turns out to be the same Mendez that we all served with during that time, the seamnan called his family and had his dad call to confirm that it was the same Mendez and it was.Yesterday, I received pix's of Mendez Moore and others. The only sad note behind this is that,Mendez passed away 1 year after coming home in a car accident where he was the driver and the only one to die.Was it an act of God or just luck? Well alot of great and touching commo in the last few days. Don is a great guy!! Had the opportunity to meet him and his wife at the reunion. And hope he will make Indy. Ho!! Don hope to make it back to work in the next few weeks to the Zone. Tail rotor chains are hard to get. I was lucky and won one at the raffle at the Louisville reunion. And the Tail Rotor Blade on top of that. And I'm proud of both. We usually raffle both off. And our inventory is shrinking on both. Don I really appreciate the donation. It boost the fund. Gently thanks for time and devotion to the 129th. I want to thank Mark and David also. I needed a way to get the reunion news out. I asked mark to post it. He and David gave me that support. And since 1998 we have grown larger at these reunions. I want Indy to be the largest. We have contact list on this sight. If you served with a Brother who hasn't made it yet give them a call or drop them a letter. It's up to us to reach out to them. Tom Pedersen is working on a project to get more of our Brothers to Indy!! Tom is deciated to the 129th and like myself want all our Brothers whether they were crew or worked at operations or drove the POL truck. What I am saying anyone whom was part of the 129th and the 394th is family. We spent a year of our lives together. We went through some good times and bad times. But, now is the time to come together and share a few days with our Brothers and there families. Mark I know it's been a while since you posted, but were always thinking of you ,Dee and the Famliy. when I donated the bracelet, I thought it might help the unit fund a little, it was something I could do, (I am married, and work for Autozone, so I don't have much money LOL ). All joking aside ..... I know what mine means to me. it is a piece of my history. a part of my life that was good and bad. when I wear mine (everywhere but work)it is like a badge of courage. maybe that is the wrong way to put it. but it reminds me of a time of my life when I was with a bunch of crazy guys that put their lives on the line every day to do what needed to be done. for my part it was to help keep the birds in as good condition as possible so when they went out, they would bring their crew and cargo home safe and sound. unfortuneatly that didn't always happen. so it also reminds me of the brothers that we lost over there. ANYWAY I am PROUD to have been part of the conspirasy that surprised you on Christmas Bro. Later, Don

I received this email this morning from the 129th soldier who received the Tail Rotor Bracelet as a Christmas gift from his kind and loving wife. He asked me to pass the email on to all of you, and it is with the greatest respect that I comply...Gently TO THE 129TH BROTHERS AND SISTERS:.............. I WOULD LIKE TO TRY TO TELL EVERYONE HOW MUCH I LOVE THE "TAIL ROTOR CHAIN" BRACELET...........I WANT TO PUBLICLY THANK DON MILLER FOR HIS GENEROSITY IN DONATING THE BRACELET TO THE 129TH "NEEDY BROTHER" FUND...... EVERYONE KNOWS HOW SCARCE THE CHAINS ARE THESE DAYS, AND THAT ONCE GONE, IT CAN'T EASILY, (IF AT ALL), BE REPLACED. I KNOW THAT DON HAS PREVIOUSLY GIVEN BRACELETS TO OTHER 129TH BROTHERS AND THAT THEY ALSO SINCERLY APPRECIATE HIS KINDNESS AND GENEROSITY..........I ALSO WANT TO THANK "GENTLY" FOR HER PASSION AND CARING FOR ALL OF US.......I HAVE FOUND OUT HOW HARD SHE CONSPIRED TO KEEP THIS WONDERFUL SECRET FROM ME......I KNOW OF SEVERAL OTHER TIMES SHE HAS WORKED TO BRING JOY AND LOVE TO THE BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF THE 129TH....RAY, ALEX, MARK, ANDY, ROBBIE, ALVIS, ALTON, RON, DON, AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS, CAN ATTEST TO HER WONDERFUL SPIRIT.......SHE HAS BEEN, AND CONTINUES TO BE, A "MAINSTAY" FOR THE BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF THE 129TH.... THROUGH PAST CONVERSATIONS WITH HER, I DO UNDERSTAND HOW SHE BECAME SO CLOSELY CONNECTED TO US, BUT AT TIMES I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW SHE PUTS UP WITH US AND KEEPS DOING SO MANY NICE AND WONDERFUL THINGS FOR US.......SHE IS TRULY AN ANGEL AND IS EARNING HER WINGS..........NOW I NEED TO THANK THE ONE THAT HAS BEEN THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN MY LIFE, AND HAS DONE SO MUCH FOR ME......MY WIFE..!!!!!.......SHE HAS STUCK WITH ME FOR ALMOST 40 YEARS, AND THE LORD KNOWS JUST HOW TOUGH I'VE MADE HER LIFE..........20 YEARS IN THE ARMY, THREE TRIPS TO NAM, TRAVELED TO EUROPE, THAILAND, KOREA, AND ALL OVER THE STATES, AND SHE WAS ALWAYS THERE FOR ME..........WE HAVE 2 WONDERFUL KIDS AND SHE WORKED HARD FOR THEM TO BE WHAT THEY ARE TODAY.......SHE HAS HEARD THE "WAR STORIES",,, COMFORTED ME WHEN I WOKE UP FROM THE "SCARY DREAMS",,...........STRUGGLED WITH ME, AND CONTINUES TO HELP WITH MY BOUTS OF DEPRESSION, THE MOODS, THE DISTRUST, HOW MAD I GET WHEN I FEEL WRONGS ARE BEING COMMITED, AND THE MEDICAL PROBLEMS THAT HAVE DEVELOPED OVER THE YEARS......SHE TRIES TO HELP ME UNDERSTAND HOW 30 YEARS AGO, WE WERE SPIT ON AND CALLED BABYKILLERS, AND TO THIS DAY HAVE THE STIGMA OF BEING WARMONGERS, AND COCKED CANNONS, AND THAT SOCIETY SEEMS TO BLAME US, THE SOLDIERS, NOT OUR GOVERNMENT, FOR VIETNAM, AND HOW SOCIETY TODAY HAS GOTTEN IT RIGHT BY SUPPORTING THE INDIVIDUAL SOLDIER, AND LOOKING TO THE GOVERNMENT AS TO WHY THEY ARE DOING WHAT THEY'RE DOING.........MY WIFE TRIES TO HELP ME WITH THIS, BUT EVEN SHE ADMITS SHE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE WERE AND ARE TREATED THIS WAY.............................. BACK TO THE BRACELET!!!!!!!!!! EVER SINCE I BECAME CONNECTED TO ARMY AVIATION, AND PARTICURLY AFTER SERVING IN THE 129TH, I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO GET SOME OF THE CHAIN FOR A BRACELET....FOR SOME REASON OR ANOTHER, I NEVER GOT ONE......IT SEEMS THAT EITHER I DIDN'T KNOW ANYONE THAT COULD GET IT FOR ME, OR I COULDN'T GET IT UNLESS I STOLE IT (AND THAT WOULD TAKE AWAY SOME OF THE SPECIALNESS OF IT)...... WHATEVER THE REASON, I NEVER GOT ONE, AND I CAN REMEMBER MANY TIMES TELLING MY WIFE HOW MUCH I WISHED I COULD HAVE, AND THAT IT WAS SUCH A GREAT MEMENTO OF "THOSE" TIMES.......WHEN DON DONATED THE BRACELET TO THE "CAUSE", I TOLD MY WIFE HOW NICE IT WOULD BE AND THAT IF IT DIDN'T GO TOO HIGH, I MIGHT BID ON IT........WELL, SHE KNEW I WOULDN'T, BUT NAGGED AT ME TELLING ME THAT I SHOULD.........EVEN AFTER THE BID WENT SO HIGH, SHE, MY WIFE, CONTINUED TO NAG AT ME, TELLING ME THAT I'LL PROBABLY NEVER FIND ANOTHER ONE, ESPECIALLY ONE FROM A 129TH BROTHER, AND REALLY GOT ON TO ME FOR NOT BIDDING.......WHEN THE BIDDING CLOSED, THE WIFE JUST KEPT AFTER ME, TELLING ME HOW SORRY I'LL BE FOR NOT TRYING FOR IT, AND THAT IT LOOKED LIKE I MAY NEVER GET ONE, AND JUST REALLY HAD ME CONVIENCED THAT I HAD MADE A BIG MISTAKE...........ALL THE WHILE, SHE AND GENTLY ARE SNEAKING AROUND, E-MAILING BACK AND FORTH, CONSPIRING TOGETHER, FIGURING HOW TO "JERK MY STRINGS" LIKE A BIG DUMB PUPPET...........WELL, I ADMIT......IT WORKED........CHRISTMAS EVE, SHE GAVE ME THIS LITTLE BOX, AND I WAS ABSOLUTELY DUMBFOUNDED!!!!!!!!WHAT A WONDERFUL GIFT!!!!!!!!! I AM SO BLESSED!!!!!!!!! OF COURSE, BEING THE MACHO GUY, (HA), I HAD TO CHEW HER OUT FOR SPENDING SO MUCH ON ME, AND THEN I HUGGED HER AND TOLD HER HOW WONDERFUL SHE IS FOR DOING THIS FOR ME.........I EVEN CALLED GENTLY TO TELL HER HOW SPECIAL SHE IS BUT SHE WASN'T HOME, SO I CHEWED HER OUT ON THE ANSWERING MACHING, AND NOW I OWE HER A HUG FOR IT........EVEN DON MILLER WAS IN ON THIS CONSPIRACY, BUT I NEVER HEARD SO MUCH AS A WHISPER FROM ANYONE LETTING THE SECRET OUT........AND OF COURSE I CANNOT REALLY BE UPSET OVER MY WIFE SPENDING SO MUCH... IT IS FOR A GREAT CAUSE, AND I WISH THERE WAS SOMEWAY THAT I COULD DO SOMETHING AS NICE AS DON DID........... I THANK GENTLY AND DON AND ALL OF YOU, FOR ALLOWING ME TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS AND FOR LETTING ME QUIETLY ENJOY THIS SPECIAL GIFT AND THE MEMORIES AND LOVE IT BRINGS TO MY HEART.........THOSE WERE SPECIAL TIMES BACK THEN, AND THIS BRACELET IS A BEAUTIFUL REMINDER OF THE THINGS WE DID TOGETHER AS "BROTHERS" AN I WILL TREASURE IT FOREVER!!!!!!................... THANK YOU DON MILLER, JUDITH "GENTLY" SINGER, AND MY WONDERFUL WIFE........... I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!! (An anonymous 129th brother)

Robbie, hang in there brother....I'm sure everything's fine with the tests. I can relate to the back problems. Just find a job that you can handle. Alvis, GO COLTS!! I hate to correct you ole buddy, but, the '54 ford didn't have the 292 & 312. 1954 was the first overhead valve V-8 and I believe it was a 239 c.i. My Dad had a '57 Ford and I ran the hell out of it. It had a 312 / 4Bbl @ 245 h.p. and that sucker would honk. Ford also had a 312 w/ 2-4Bbls that put out about 270 h.p. and a supercharged version that put out over 300 h.p. Glenn, I'd like to see a pic of your '54....sounds nice. Indy will be here before we know it, but, before that we are going to L.A. in May for Debbie's sons graduation, From there Debbie & I are renting a car & going to San Francisco for a few days before coming home. Anyone have any advice for me on that little trip? We plan on staying by Fishermans Wharf & going to see Alkatraz. Anyone know what the traffic is like in SF? Too much over the head muscle work took it's toll on me. The people were nice and they seemed to like me. The last day I worked for them I went on a service call with the boss about 30 minutes east of where i live. It has been snowing here for days, and the temp gets above zero now and again. We fixed the furnace for them and coming back the van just quit and there we were on the side of the road and it was just zero out, and about 10:30 pm. Sat there for a good 45 minutes waiting for a friend of the boss to get us. Took the van to the shop and found ice and snow packed in the air breather. Damn Chevy vans. the intake was facing directly into the grill and sucking up all of the snow and shit that it could. Cleaned it out and a can of dry gas and we were back on the road again. I got home about 11:45 that day. So i'm looking for another desk job now. I have to have another colonoscopy done now. the pathologist found what they called HIGH GRADE DISPLASIA in the pollup they took out which is the next worst thing to cancer. The doctor wants to go back into the tunnel and see if there is anything else in there. Oh boy, i get to go through this again. I also broke a tooth in my sleep and had a temp cap put on it. The temp came off the other day while eating lunch and i guess i swallowed it. Been looking through the output chute to find it so i can put it back on. (just kidding) I go to the dentist tomorrow and they are going to put a crown on it. Well, that's about all from NY for now. I hope everyone else is well. Ray, I hope Kris is getting better now. You sounded real good the last time i talked to you. (for a guy from Lynn that is) Smile brother.... Rob

From a Marine friend: YOU MIGHT BE AN AIRCRAFT MECHANIC IF: 1. You've ever slept on the concrete under a wing. 2. You've ever said "Oh yes sir, its supposed to look like that" 3. You know what JP4/JP8 (Jet A) tastes like. 4. You've ever used a black grease pencil to fix an overworn tire. 5. You have a better bench-stock in the pockets of your coveralls then the supply system. 6. You've ever used a piece of safety wire as a toothpick. 7. You've ever been told to go get "some prop wash and a yard of flightline." 8. You've ever worked a 14 hour shift on a aircraft that isn't flying the next day. 9. (My favorite) You can sleep anywhere, anytime, but as soon as the engines shut down you are wide awake. 10. You've ever stood on wheel chocks to keep your feet dry. 11. Used dikes to trim fingernails. 12. Wiped leaks immediately prior to crew show. 13. Wondered where they keep finding the idiots that keep making up stupid rules. 14. You've ever had to defuel an aircraft an hour after refueling it. 15. You've used a wheel chock as a hammer. 16. You know more about your coworkers than your own family. 17. You ever wished the pilot would say "great airplane." 18. You've ever wondered why it takes a college degree to break an airplane but only a high school diploma to fix one.

His wife teaches ,or used to,at the small next town up,that contains the school.Last time I saw him,he was running about 10 head of cattle.I used to go to college with him in colorado springs, after the army.He is the one thqt talked me into moving up there and also got me a job as a ranch mechanic there on the little big horn river where it emptys out of the canyon.Anyway, next time your up that way,if you go thru wyola, ask if there still there. Not many non-indian types there.oh, their names are Jim and cathy stevens.Smile, its been 20 years, but he will remember me.

Gently, I am still a little depressed that Greenbay beat the Seahawks on a interception in overtime. I actually had hope that Seattle would win a playoff game for the first time in 20 years! Keep the dirt. My daughter became a Packer's fan when she watched them play when she was very young and winnig was the Packer's tradition. She enjoyed the playoff game at least! She graduates from high school this June and will join her brother at WSU in Pullman Washington (300 miles from home). At least my trip to San Deago with my son was better than watching the Seahawks. The Washington State Cougars beat Texas in the Holiday bowl! Take care and have a good year.

Fred, yes i am only about 30 miles from Wyola, go through there all the time & go to Billings a lot. As you may recall, I had a 4 vessell bypass in 1997, have some damage to the back wall, some cardiomyopathy etc & have had a little pain lately but i don't think it's anything to get real excited about, i may have to have a special treadmill done but that is easy enough, mean time I must remember GOD is in control & it sounds like people out there are having a lot worse problems than me. Gently & Alvis, thanks for your advice. Actually, I am represented by the DAV. When I talk to them, it's like they are reading just what the VA wrote down for them.........same with the Legion. At least that's been my experience over the years. I'M DONE!! I must say that the Danville (Illinois) VA people are real nice & concerned. The last Specialist was, I think, a nuerosurgen and acted like I had a good case from working with choppers. He said "that would certainly cause it" and was very promising.I guess either way I'll continue to have this irritating screaching in my ears.............and ..NO...I don't mean Debbie! ;o) I'm going on with my life without the VA and looking forward to it. Hopefully in May I'll get a small amount of social security. I've paid into it for over 10 years, but, it will be "offset" by my Postal pension (which I only get 1/2 of since my divorce). It was kinda rough going from $40,000 to around $10,000, but, that was my choice and I haven't regretted it. Working over 30 years in the Postal Service was quite a trip. Oh well, I've got Debbie, good health and all is good. JW, sorry to ramble on when you are having so much trouble. Hopefully they will get you straightened up and "tracking" again. Hang in there and we'll see you in Indy.

Gale, you can try contacting your congress man. They dont give a crap either but its something. Everytime I start to think V.A. is starting to come around, something like this happens to someone. Its very frustrating. The clerk in billing stated that I would be better off using my insurance and seeing a private doctor. That statement may or may not be true, but it sure aint the point. Whats worse is that I was sitting there with the full blown flu, despite having a flu shot. What really pisses me off was their attitudes.Damn woman acted like she was going to put a stop to lateness all by herself.grrr, they made me late and I got the shaft. Gale, keep pluging away,as Gentle one says, perhaps you should try vfw . alvis, out, have a good day.

Fred and Gale...horror stories, no doubt. And I'm not surprised. Contact your VFW or DAV to see if they can help you. You can't expect even the VA Patient reps to help. I know some who are worthless. It's really these WWII groups who have the inside line, and it's almost as if they want to "stick it" to the VA sometimes. Please at least try. I wish I could say more, do more-----I'm ready to protest(starve myself) in front of these VA's to get the word out to the general public about the treatment and care not given our Veterans....but promised to them(you) for putting your lives on the line. This makes me so damn angry. I'm going to go and have a beer myself! Not so Gently.

Alvis, sounds like you had a bad day. Me too! If we were a little closer I think we could drink ourselves into a "stuper". I got another denial from the VA today. I give up......I'm beat...... and I'm tired of being called a liar. For twenty years I've been filling out their stupid forms and going to their sensless appointments....I'm done! I went to Danville VA a few months ago for my "tinnitus" claim and had an audio test. In the letter today(from Indy) they say that I didn't show up for my audio test. I'm pissed......like they say, "it's better to be pissed than to be pissed on", and the VA ain't gonna do it to me anymore! I'm taking my 20 years of papers(a whole drawer full) out to the shed, start a fire and burn every damn one of them. Let's see...a beer for every handfull....I think I can reach "stuper" level. One good thing is I'll gain an underwear drawer! :o[ Later folks, Gale

Smitty, we are gathering up our records for final approvel on the house morgage. Should know in the next 2 weeks. If approved, addy and phone will change. reguardless, you will not need money for lodging and I hope you will take most of your meals with us.Just guessing here, but think its about 8 miles or so from holiday inn at airport.AM about 12 miles from V.A. regional hospital here.( its big).Speaking of V.A.... I had 3 appointments this morning.blood draw and 2 docs in that order. As bood draw is always packed, I took a number and waited. after that, I went to doc office. Seems blood draw made me 5 minutes late,so I was told ..to bad, cant see doc today. They offeded to rescheduale me. Angerly, i said,ok as I grabed my coat and left. Went to patients adv, office to complain. After all i had taken the morning off, lost about 70 bucks in wages.patients advocate started conversation by saying its policy when one is late, never mind the reason.I said ( interrupting her) thank you for your time , I know where this conversation is headed. Again grabed my jacket and left the office.Went to claims and billing office to find out y I OWED 500 DOLLARS WHEN i pay 100 a week health insurance. Seems I belong to a "hmo" and they wont pay va cause they dont serve everyone. So to sum it up,I wasted my time,Va waster the blood test and time cause it wont be effective by the time i vist again, and they wont except my health insurance.Just a huge waste of everyones time and effort.Oh,by the way, blood draw only made me 5 minutes late.needles to say,I was pissed driving home. good day.

Fred A... Yep, too bad it's only one game! It was always fun to watch John Elway face Marty Schottenheimer. I think John enjoyed kicking his butt! The Chiefs are Broncos rivals second only to the Raiders! Lurch and Capt. Tom Hausman (if you're still reading)... if either of you (or someone else out there) has a photo somewhere of James Michael Young (1971) may I have a copy of it? Gently, I've been thinking of trying to get photos of our fallen 129th brothers posted on both "The Virtual Wall" and "Virtual Wall" websites, so (like Larry Jackson's) we can put a face with the name. (I was a high school friend of Robert Gilliam, one of 129th's first KIAs) Butch--The times we knew in Spain are long gone now--45 years and more. The ever-shifting world of Air Force brats brought together and then separated our lives. Still, I always held to the notion we might cross paths again. I did not imagine it would be like this. So, for you, I offer the words the Canadian Legion uses to commemorate the war dead: They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. Tins.. we were escorting a roc convoy thru the pass while an american convoy waited its turn on the other side.( having 2 convoys in the pass together is sheer madness). The american convoy radioed us and ask for us to stick around to escort them as well.headquarters said no.I never saw 2 cobras and one slick crew so pissed off.I think an kha pass was bad vrung ro pass was also full of bad guys.we saw some little people there once, the roc officer on board was telling me to open up,I ask the pilots, who in turn ask headquarters.had them in my sights, finger twitching, time passes, and pases, and passes,by the time we got the ok, they were gone, hidden in the rocks. The only inverted ship i know of,with pilot getting grounded was gabby.that was inland of tuy hoa.
