Evenin' flight. Tony was my gunner for a while - on both 495 and 697. Great shot - much better than Freddie... Love you Freddie - but if you don't show up - we'll have to talk about you big time!!! Can afford it? I don't work for the Gov't but could probably send a $20. Has anybody heard from Tony Kraay? I have lots of pics. Hope to see you all there. Glad to hear Alex is flying (in a plane?) I don't have enough "cheek" left to ride a Harley so will opt for at least two seats and four wheels. Made our reservations - Freddie??????????????? Aw, come on.... How can you miss it? Cut back on the Heineken and Old #7 and you can manage it??? We'll make you proud!! And Jamie will teach you to shoot straight!! Ron

I remember young Freddie shooting at sanpans on more then one occasion. Funny thing, the safest place to be when he was shooting at them was IN the sanpan.
Was anyone on the ac with me and Tony Kraay between Pleiku and Plei Djerang(sp?) when both pilots thoought the GIB started firing without letting us know? I remember both GIF were quite pissed until we finally shut up and were told the fire was incoming. We were low-low level and it was so loud it sounded like it was coming from inside the aircraft. Needed to stop by the clothing sales for some fresh shorts. By the way Tony Kraay was my next door neighbor at Mother Rucker in 1976. Was a W2 AH-1 driver.
Does anyone know where he is now? Last I saw him was Schweinfurt, Ger in early 80s.

Flight: Bernie good seeing your still with us. Are you bring the family? Hope they all are in good health and spirits. Mark I figured it would take some clean up to get those personnel rosters on the web site. But, I got confidence in your webmaster. About time I call. It's been a while. Oh!! the reunion tours this year are on thursday- Hurd Indian museum and the Arizona Military Museum. Then on Friday- Goldfield Ghost Town. They have a saloon and a bunch of attractions. For those thinking of the Grand Canyon. The grand Canyon is a 4 hour drive from the hotel. The cost was too high for a group. Liz and I are flying out early and renting a car. They have a hotel at the park. I am doing more research on the Canyon. Of coarse there is the Ladies Luncheon on sat. afternoon so, let's not forget our better half. Or as we say OUR COMMAND SARGET MAJOR!!! I tried a mass email yesterday. Alot came back. So if you have changed your email please email me with correct one. Brother Skaggs hope to see you in Phoenix. Were alike transplanted yankees!! And Buckeyes at that. Well June will be here before we know it. Hope to see alot of you there. When I joined the VHCMA I was the only from the 129th for my first 7 reunions. But, with the help of the VHCMA, they put me on to our Mark Jackson. And with Mark's help in 1998. I decided to have a 129th mini-reunion. That year in Texas, there was 2. Which was special because it was Glenn Pearmain, from my 1st tour in 65-66. Since then our 129th reunion grows every year. Ask anyone whom attends. It's habit forming. I have had the honor of meeting so many. Many of you might be having thoughts about attending the reunion.Yes!! There is emotions and pain of remembering, but your with your Brothers that fought next to you. Whom understand you feelings. Whom wait to personally give you that hug and to really WELCOME YOU HOME!!! We share a special bond, that will ways be there. In closing, there isn't word to express my appreciation to Mark and Dee Jackson. The gave us this web page. In memory of Larry (POP-A-TOP). And to all our fallen Brothers of the 129th. So, if your hesitating making the reunion or even posting to log page. Remember we are here for each other, were family. Alex 129th 65-68

Not I, my brother, I only shot at san-pans. But I did shoot the black LT.Col. dog in the wire. God, that was a wild day, he screamed at me like I killed one of his kids. But, he did give orders to kill anything in the perimeter that would trip flares or set off claymores( Think that how you spell it.) I guess he didn`t have much humor about that. Fred

For those of you thinking of investing in resort property along the coast south of Qhi Nhon, be sure you get lots of liability insurance to cover cut tourists feet from all the glass ball floats that we shot up "testing" the door guns. Always used to swing by there on the way back from "Miami Beach" resupply missions and look for the glass ball floats that would drift ashore. Made good target practice for the door gunners.

QUI NHON--------VERY DIFFEREMT!! IT IS A MUCH LARGER CITY. THE OLD RUN-WAY IS NOW A WIDE STREET. THE 7TH FIELD HOSPITAL(THAT DAM NEAR KILLED ME TWICE IN 67} HAS NOW BEEN REMODELED INTO AN OFFICE BUILDING. THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF U.S. INSTALATIONS. ONLY A FEW OLD G.I. TRUCKS STILL ON THE ROAD. THE STREETS ARE PAVED, AND SWARMING WITH SMALL MOTOR BIKES.------ YOU NO LONGER NEED TO GO THROUGH QUI NHON PASS TO GET HERE. LAST YEAR 15 MILES OF NEW ROAD WAS BEEN PUT ALONG THE COAST, IT LOOKS LIKE RESORTS WILL BE COMEING IN SOON, SOME GREAT SIGHTS FOR YOU REAL ESTATE INVESTERS. THE ROAD FROM NHA TRAMG IS MOSTLY PAVED AND THERE IS FARMING ALMOST ALL THE WAY------THE OLD LEPER HOSPITSL IS STILL HERE!-------
I AM TRAVELING WITH TWO VIETNAMESE BROTHERES WHO'S FATHER WORKED WITH SPECIAL FORCES. HE WAS KILLED IN THE WAR. THESE TWO GUYS ARE GIVING ME GREAT INSIGHT AS TO HOW THINGS ARE NOW AND HAVE BEEN IN THE PAST. WE WILL HEAD FOR "AN SON" IN THE MORNING.-----JOE

Good Evening Flight,(Bro`s and Sis`s), Ted, I was just a gunner(OJT), but I`m sure everyone that monitored their radios has heard it. That was LZ English AO, we`ve worked that area a FEW times. Snapper(Jeff),I swear it was good talkin to you. DB(Debates), I always have to take time to reflect every time we`ve talked. I had forgotten that I was with you on several eventful missions. Remember, " Green Tracers, Green Tracers sir on the right side"........Damn it, then shoot back Fred!!!!!!! I pissed my pants that day, and never got round off. Rhomie, I`m gonna call this week and wake you up OK. Matt Casey and Rick England, I`ll be sending some postal stuff your way in a few days. Rick E. I got a brand new " Big Bertha" that the guys bought me for retirement present. I`ve never used it yet, of course my golf game is kinda like maturbating. Fun to do, but ugly to watch. Joe Johnson, that has got to be a great experience, but watch them women. Don`t bring something home you can`t wash off. Kim L. great to see your commo, hope your not snowed in up in Maine. I`ll touch base with you later. Well hope I haven`t offended to many Brothers and Sisters, I was at the pub all day watchin football and won 2 quarters of the poole. Does anyone remeber the Bong Son GCA? I was at a flea market last fall, and saw this sign. Dark Orange with black lettering. U.S. Army Aviation--Bong Son-Ground Approach Control. How the hell it ended up in a flea market in Edgerton, WI. must be quite a story. The guy was asking $350 for it. After we chatted a while, he sold it to me for what he paid for it. Anyone ever use Bong Son GCA? Ted

I went to HHC 1st AVE BDE, Long Binh, to be part of a unit training Royal Thai Air Force, in gunships. While there, we would occasionally drop in at Nha Be. Smitty, the chow was just as good in 71 as you remember it from 69! it was some strange, after all the flying in the hills and coastal plain, to chase shadows up and down the canals and marshes. As I recall, there was a pretty big hunk of woods, between LB and there, then, delta. One of our pilots was an old ah-1 jock, he LOVED to nose over, big time, on the gun runs, overspeeded rotors, transmission, my heart rate! What was Vne in a huey? We exceeded it many times! Jim W.-breaks my heart to hear about our latest loss...the war goes on.
There's a premier showing of the movie "We were soldiers once...and young" in Milwaukee on March 4th with the guest speaker being Gen. Harold Moore. This is a private showing for Vietnam Vets with a social before and after. If you're interested let me know. Ron Paye will be helping to organize the same in Indy. Speaking of Ron Paye....
I'm looking for Ron Paye these days: last I saw him he was picked up by a couple(as in man and woman) in New Glarius at the Vet reunion, and joined them for drinks, while being stalked by a twenty(maybe 20) something blonde woman(and cute). Ted B., pilot from the 129th, also joined us at the reunion!!! Nice surprise-he saw Ron's 129th shirt and knew he was home. What a gentle man. Ted I still owe you a dollar. I had it for you on Saturday but we didn't see you. Wish I could have said good bye one more time. Ted has a 6 acre farm and could be talked into a mini 129th reunion this fall I bet, right Ted. Chip God it has been a long time. We were always in competion with each other to see who had the best gunship. I had 929 with the duel 60's on the doors, a thumper on the nose and 38 2.75 rockets. Ur ship was always cleaner and meaner looking but 929 had u beat on kills after we (Joe Bragg and myself) hit No Hope village. Do u remember that battle? It was a village south of the pass. It held a couple companies of NVA regulars. We were tipped off buy the White Horse division of the Korean marines. They had the village surrounded on 3 sides with the east bordered by the ocean. We started our runs from the NW as the wind was blowing from that direction to the SE. Our first load was all Willie Peter to get the village burning. After refueling and rearming we made our next pass just to the area of town that wasn't burning. Charlie was all holed up in that one area. Like shooting ducks in a barrel. Joe Bragg named it No Hope as they was no hope of getting away. Gosh it is great to hear from u. Do u know how to get a hold of Bragg.(E-mail address in index does not work) What about Sgt Thompson? I will write more to u later. Randy

Fred we are almost neighbors. I have been in the Charlotte area for 15 years now. Good to hear from you. I must give you a late apology for most surely scaring the crap out of you on those "first few flights". If you were as scared as I was I'm suprised you didn,t have to change your jockeys a few times. I won't be able to make this years reunion due to prior commitments but how do I go about getting a couple of tee shirts and hat? Can,t beleive you guys were in Charlotte last year and I didn't know about it. Send me a e-m,ail with phone number and I'll give you a call.

For Gale Beard. Medic MOS is 91 series. Most likely this guy was a 91B. Another thing you can try are testimonials from others who were aware of the injury. They do not have to be medical personell. Other guys in your platoon, the plt leader, CO etc. can give statements. The vet organization magazines are also a good source to help find someone or someone who knows someone. Good luck and if I can be of further help let me know.

Flight, Anyone out there that was at Dong Ba Tin in 67? There was a Medic there at sick bay with a last name of Torres and I am trying to locate him. I'm not sure if he forwarded to Lane or not. Does anyone know where I can find the M.O.S. for a Medic? The VA has denied me again because my injury at Dong Ba Tin was not recorded and/or forwarded in my records. I injured my back while building the PSP bunkers on the flight line and it's been hell since, including surgery in 1985. Any help or suggestions out there? Thanks, Gale

Mark, Dee----Thanks for a great afternoon at the Pop-A-Top. It's such a wonderful place and brought back so many feelings and memories of long ago. I wouldn't have thought in a hundred years, that, after 30+ years I would be able to visit a place that represents the 129th AHC. Not only that, but, to be associated with over 200 129ther's is almost mind boggling. What a feeling and we all know who we owe for all of this-----Larry who I never knew, but, feel like I do and Mark who I've known for only a couple years, but, feel like I've known him a lifetime. Mark, Dee, Larry and all of your nice family---Bless you! Also, when Mark "brags" about the good food they put out over there in Coldwater---he definetly has the right to brag. I hope to be there this Spring when Gus brings the Main Rotor Blade in and I hope some of you other "locals" can make it also, like we discussed earlier. Thanks Mark & Dee, we really enjoyed ourselves. Gale & Debbie

Hey Bros & Sisters. Something out of the ordinary----The Discovery Channel will air an episode of it's series "The Prosecutors" titled "Deadly Medicine" at 9 p.m.EST Saturday and 1 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday. It is based on the Orville Lynn Majors trial ( the male nurse mercy killer). It all happened at the Vermillion Co Hospital right here in my little hometown of Clinton, In. He was tried in Clay Co, but, the Deputy Prosecutor Nina Alexander and State Police Detective Frank Turchi are friends of mine. Just a little news tidbit if anyone is interested. My belated greetings to all. Hope everyone had a great time over the holidays. I screwed up my PC and have been off line for a while. Getting ready to head up to Wisconsin next weekend for the "Winterfest" Veterans reunion. Hope to see some of you up there. Judith, looking forward to seeing you again. We can talk about a ride to Phoenix on the scoot. I doubt if I can get that much time off, but if I can,,,,,,there is on old biker saying you need to know about. """Gas, Grass, or _ss, no rides are free:>))))))""" As for the dance, don't know if I know how. I thought I was dancing one time till someone stepped on my hand. Mark; Miss ya bud. Steve and I want to come up to the Pop a Top some weekend after we get back. Bill if you get bored some time, why don't you head up to Indy, maybe we could head out to Ohio. Lurch, you could join us. Katherine, you and your husband could go to, as well as anyone in the Indy, Louisville area. Sounds like a mini reunion to me.
My Best to you all. I'm sure Judith and I will talk about you all next weekend. If you want to know what we are saying, ya better be there.

Flight, well it`s good to be back online and "up and running", our computer was in for a "PE". Really we bought this thing in "95" and it was top of the line then. But it was in storage for 5 years almost, so when we got it back out of storage, it`s obsolete. So, Kim had to install some new things. She was being a smart--s, and ask me if I knew what a "hard drive" is? I said, yea, that`s when we use to go to a football game at" old Cleveland stadium",in the middle of December, when they aloud drinking beer after half-time, it was when the Brownies would beat the Steelers, the drive home to Columbus was a "hard drive". So, Kim said, "Do you know what a up-grade is"? I said, yea, That`s when on the "hard drive", back to Columbus, you stop and get a 12pack of Michlob, after drinking Stroh`s all day. That`s a "up-grade". Well now that we moved south to get away from the harsh winters of the north. The 12 inches snow we got last week is almost gone, it`s going up to 64 degrees today. The snow completely shut this city down, I just couldn`t believe it. Well, I everyone had great holidays and to see you families, grandbabies and your kids. Now let`s get to business, DB( Ron ), what color scheme are you going with on the hats. Are they union made( just kidding ). Matt, I haven`t sent anything yet, but there seems to be a address problem from what I have read today on the Flight Log, is that thin air in Colorado still messin with you? Rick England (the pins) in a couple days I`ll send something your way, hope your address is OK. Alex thanks for the trying, I`ll get with Rhome and see if he has any more orders. When I get my addresses back together and restored I`ll send everyone a personal e-mail. I can just feel the over-enjoyment of receiving a personal e-mail from Fred Skaggs, Whoa Dude, spare us!!!! Joe Johnson, I like what your doing, I`d love to catch up with you, a 129th reunion in An Son, that`s worth saving for "Brothers and Sisters", that`s the real deal. Mark Jackson, we could climb that mountain then and get your" piece of the rock". Really ya`all think about that!!!!! A 129th reunion in Viet-Nam!!!!!! Oh well, food for thought See Ya` all FRED(Bulldog664) P.S. One of the best "coffee shops" in Amsterdam is called " The Bulldog Cafe", when we go back in spring I`ll take a picture for the "Pop-A-Top, the picture should fit right in..........

Goodmornig Flight: Glad to see everyone has made it through the New Year. And it looks like another exciting year for the 129th. More and more of the 129th are finding this site. About 129th patches some of the first were a white bull dog head wearing a red and black cap, then the 129th cobra falstaff. The first flight platoon-on a yellow shield, bordered black, a white snoopy wearing a dark blue helmet and a red scarf, sitting on a red dog house. other details og this patch were firing a black m-60 machine gun with yellow ammo belt showing a red muzzle flash with the inscription ONE FOR ALL ALL FOR ONE 1ST FLIGHT PLATOON. as the 129th went from the 129th avn. co. to the 129th assualt different patches were made. I think Mark has a few of the patches on the site. Fred and Pete The social number was wrong. The clerk could have made a type o. Maybe if you have other orders they might have the correct social. Mark What is the possiblity of getting the personnel rosters place on the web??? I am still working on getting more of them. With Charlie Rains gone I have a more active roll with Phonenix reunion. Trying to find some good activities for that thurs. and fri. It looks like a real big turn out. Have alot of units confirming they will be there. Of coarse I know the 129th will be well represented. As usual there will be some 1st time reunions and a lot of old friends from the previous reunions. Well Brothers and Sisters Take care!! Alex 129th 65-68

Ron - I am still here. I read the 129th web site almost daily. I guess I should answer up and say something once in a while. Cups - - keep those emails coming. And be careful. I used to live in DC, I thought that was bad. Ron - got anymore pictures? Lurch and Tadpole - what else can I say, you da man(s)!! Tadpole, I know you read this page, so post something once in a while!! Mark - you are the man and we have sure much to thank you for. I am rambling so I am going back to work. Since I am a government worker I want to thank each and every one of you for the raise this year!!! Later, and enjoy life everyday like its your last.

Just found the page back thanks to Pop-a-tops e-mail.
It's back in my "favorites" file now. Glad to be back.
Will be spending some time in the Madison VA shortly. Cancer in a kidney.
Caught it early, so prognosis is very good. I remember my Christmas at Lane in 1967,
then a CA New years Day. Turned 21 on the 6th of January, 1968. Best regards to all.

Great. I'll just use the one I have. As soon as I have one finished, I'll have Jamie email Mark a picture. It'll probably take a couple weeks to get the disk back. We'll go from there. Should turn out pretty good. More later. Ron

the only reason I was thinking about putting my other patch on a hat is I wear hats all the time and I want people to know that I was in the best unit there ever was. We have guys come in the store all the time with unit hats on ( I really like this new awareness of the veterans ). anyway if you come up with a price, let me know. as for which patch to put on it.... I was proud to wear the old style 33 years ago and I am proud now to wear the new patch. so either one is fine with me. now if I could just find my old AWOL patch. 200 BROTHERS AND 2 SISTERS, GREAT JOB MARK ........ Evenin' Flight. Hey Don - about the hats? I have a guy here that can take my patch, photo it, size it down, and make a disk for his machine to embroider it right onto the caps. He's a vet so I know he'll give us the best deal possible. I'll let you know shortly about price, etc. I have the old ORIGINAL patch, with the sheep dog rather than the bulldog. It looks really good on a white cap with a royal blue brim. Any objections to the old style patch? If so, somebody needs to get me a new one for a sample only. I can return it. Let me know flight - if anybody's interested. It looks pretty sharp. Nice to see a posting from you Frog. Where ya been?? Ron

THE NIGHT LIFE IS STILL AS WILD AS EVER; THERE IS EVEN ONE BAR WHERE THE GIRLS SHOOT PING-PONG BALLS FROM THEIR ----'S INTO A DRUNKEN CROUD THAT ATTEMTS TO RETURN THE BALL'S WITH PING-PONG PADDLES. IT IS QUITE A SIGHT. THINK ABOUT IT.

Good Morning Flight.....Trust all made thur the Holidays unscathed. Good to see Mike Miles posting again. Long time no hear. And "Menace", where have you been? Don't see you listed on the Contact page. Tim, Darwin, Fred, Gently and all... thanks for the wishes, I'll get back to all when I catch up here at work. Still no phone at home so it has to be done here, but at least there was peace here over the holidays. Awoke yesterday to the sounds of rotor blades. I guess the President went for a drive. A 129th brother has a bird here flying security for the little priest. Hope to see him post now that he has found the site....Looking foward to Phoenix and wishing all a Peacful and Prosperous New Year.... Cups

Hello Flight and Happy New Year! Thad Czuba (129th AHC 67-68) had an unsuccessful cataract surgery in Oct (they got the lens out & couldn't put one back in). He is scheduled for his re-implant on Jan 3,02. I've been trying to get him to a reunion or on this site, but, my attempts have failed. I was wondering- if he got some "get well" cards from some of his 129th family- maybe it would help. I'm sure that some of you know him: Don Whigham,Wayne May, Lee Wood,Dan Hertlein,Ted Gustafson,Joe Muniz, Joe Johnson or anyone else, how about it?? His addy is: Thad Czuba Sr / 10612 Lakeshore Dr, East / Carmel, In 46033. Thanks, Gale

Happy new year flight. hope everyone had a good and safe time.
OK what are we going to do about the hats ? I was thinking about just sewing one of my patches to the front of a new cap. I got two patches and have one on my vest and figured that a hat would be a great place for the second one. but now I have a problem ........ what color hat ? I was going to put it on a black cap but now that I see that black is taken by the Cobra's we need to decide on colors for the rest of us. any ideas ? I was in Maint. I flew a little but not much. I think I have a little over 200 hours for the year. most of you guys got that in the first month. anyway let me know what you think.
Later, Don
