I'll have to get another "We're not FONDAJANE" bumper sticker for my cars again if this keeps up...Although Ms. Fonda claims to be a Born Again Christian, after her divorce from Ted Turner, she has never really apologised to the Vietnam Veterans, or this nation! I believe in forgiveness, but I can't forget the pain & division she & people like her brought and continue to bring. She's nothing like her Dad. she can't act either, although I do have fond adolescent memories of her in "Barbarella" lol. Keep yer'powder dry,Clear Left.lenny

Flight, I was watching the Today Show when G.I.Jane came on. I quickly changed channels and later found out about her "slip of the tongue." Here's my response to NBC: Today Show, why should Meredith have to apologize to the public for the actions of Jane Fonda? A "Vagina" like her should be responsible for her own apologies. Mistake? Twice? I don't think so!! As a matter of fact, the word that she "mistakenly" spoke on national TV describes her perfectly. G.I. Jane should never have been allowed on the stage with those other nice women. G. Beard Vietnam Vet 67-68

WOW, I just want spring to get here as I took my stepdaughter down to get on the bus this morning. Had to try and cross the road which is already packed ice @ 07:30 to get to the mail box. I am happy that it is supposed to get up to 37 today but the swings just give us pot holes big enough to eat a small car. I love living in the country too but guess the county forgets people are out here sometimes. I loved living in Columbus, GA even when it did snow.

Hello to all. Just wanted to let everyone know that Stickman's Mother passed away on the 21st, in Kentucky. It was a beautiful and very moving funeral, with the music in the Appalachian style. Jim's okay. Sad, of course, but Mom had been in bad health for awhile now, so it wasn't unexpected. I saw 5 flakes of snow, and thought it was a blizzard....

Hi Flight! Well, my first real motorhome vacation/work continues. We left Colorado Springs on Feb 13th - a day ahead of schedule - as a snow storm was due to come down from Denver. Spent the first night in a WalMart lot in Las Vegas, New Mexico (Thank you Walmart!!!). Spent Valentines Day in Gallup, New Mexico and treated Kat to a very romantic Valentines dinner at the Denny's next to the KOA Campground (we aren't towing a car!). Then we spent a night at "Black Canyon City", Arizona - nice place!! We were told that I-8 to San Diego was closed so we thought we were stuck going I-10 toward Los Angeles, but then found out I-8 had reopened - so off we went. Been here at a nice rv park for a week and leaving tomorrow morning to drive up to a class in San Luis Obispo. Then on the 1st its back to home!! My oldest son Matt will be going with us and then stay with us for a month doing painting and some yard renovation. Have met a lot of VN vets along the way. Does any one have a 129th decal that can go in the back RV window? Let me know and I'll send you a check for it. Well, my grandson is coming to visit in 2 hours so I better get cleaned up. Take care, all!! Bill

It's pretty country, for sure! unfortunately, the guy wasn't lying when he told you about eating anything caught in the river. Fact is, there's a warning on eating fish caught anywhere in Maine, due to the high mercury levels. Some say it comes from the acid rain which is caused by the coal fired plants in the mid west. Added to that is the dioxin which used to be part of the paper making process. Catch and release is the order of the day!

From Army Times today: PTSD victims no longer need to prove trauma By Kelly Kennedy - Staff writer Posted : Wednesday Feb 20, 2008 9:38:42 EST The Veterans Affairs Department has dumped a policy requiring combat vets to verify in writing that they have witnessed or experienced a traumatic event before filing a claim for post-traumatic stress disorder, said the chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee. “This change provides a fairer process for veterans with service-connected PTSD,” Sen. Daniel Akaka, D-Hawaii, said in a written statement. It “leaves claim adjudicators more time to devote to reducing the staggering backlog of veterans’ claims.” In the past, a veteran has had to provide written verification — a statement from a commander or doctor, or testimony from co-workers — that he or she was involved in a traumatic situation in order to receive disability compensation for PTSD from VA. The Defense Department uses the same rules in evaluating PTSD for disability retirement pay. In Iraq, troops joke about keeping a pen and paper on hand in case they witness a shooting or explosion or are injured themselves. That way, they can run around and have all their buddies sign a quick statement saying it really happened. The joke loses steam when a Marine has to prove he was involved in a traumatizing event when he had a hand blown off in that event, or when a soldier has to prove he watched his friends die to qualify for benefits. The rule also slows the process as veterans wait for yet more documentation before their claims may be processed. Akaka said he asked VA Secretary James Peake if the rule was necessary, and asked that it be removed. Peake agreed. “I am pleased that the secretary took quick action to reverse this requirement after it was brought to his attention,” Akaka said. In the future, veterans will be diagnosed with PTSD through a medical examination with no further proof necessary, Akaka said, adding that he’s been told that Peake has already informed VA regional offices of the decision. VA officials were not immediately available for comment Monday, a federal holiday.

Alvis I was going to give it a break from posting too much but had to agree with your point about the long term effort during the Cold War which we had won so far. It also applies to what we are trying to do now by going after the ones who would destroy our country. It makes me feel even more pride for my father who after two Wars ended his time in the Marines on Imo. He was stead fast behind all of us till the day he died & never questioned what we went to fight for. I guess that had helped me deal over the years too, plus flying along the DMZ in Korea or on the border in Germany. Fred you are right that all was a part of what we were fighting for. I have gotten into many discussions over the years when I hear " We lost the vietnam war". I always say we we wining when we left. Of course the always say..." who runs that country now?". A very valid point, one I have been thinking about during the lonly days on the road.I hope I have came up with a decent response.Yes, the "North" runs the country now,BUT, wasnt the reason we were their in the first place, was to stop Russian influance and look at who is running Russia now. The "Soviet Union" is no more and the "Wall" came down. Most, if not all, of the USSR countries are now democarcies. So perhaps todays view,by non-Vietnam Veterans,is too narrow of a viewpoint. What ou think of that reasoning?

Busy day here, first not Gov. Ridge talking here, I like him. This was some war corespondant who I never heard of, but hay they let any left wing idea fly at a college. The war is in Iraq that he is talking about. Maybe I am just to self rightciuos when it comes to thinking we were in Vietnam for the people in the South. But when you look at South Korea and how well they are doing because we did the right thing compared to the North who kill and strave their own people. The only reason I can sleep at night now is because Vietnam is at piece and are not all crazy. The longer countries like Iran or Iraq were left to brain wash their people, the bigger problems later. Gently is right that was a hard film to watch but it had many true points of the war. To make it short we were all let down by the politics and opinion polls leaving so many to suffer for nothing but a just cause. Take care guys.

It's my understanding that the Vietnamese were able to stand on their own, as long as they had the support of American airpower and weapons. When congress cut off all aid, things fell apart. That's what will probably happen in Iraq...... I'm dealing with some mixed emotions over that one. I still don't believe we had any business allowing ourselve to get lied into that country, but...... the thought of just pulling out????? That bothers me to no end!

Wink I hope other got to see it last night and I did try to record it but my recorder wouldn't do so in either HD or analog. We have not had Direct TV for long so not sure whats up? I am glad still that the program was done so well and wish they could show it in all the history classes in high school & college. Thomas Ridge is on our news at noon saying the war is a tradgity. Still not sure who he is, but don't like him already. All please take care.

morning flight; i too watched inside veitnam war.i thought it was done very well. ken i agree with you, we shouldn,t left south veitnam holding the bag on their own. our government knew that once we left country that the north would move in,as they did.and the government just turned its back on south veitnam.i was sick to my stomach than as i am now but not for the government of south veitnam but for the people of the south. i knew a lot of good people their and my thought was these people dependedon us and believed that we would be there for them an because of that they signed their own death warrant.wether or not you sent time in nam or not we all felt the wrath of our generation for many years there after. we have nothing to be ashamed of. that falls on the shuolders of othersin this country. that said we all should be proud of what we did and nothing less. wink 3/69-10/70

Gently I hope some others got to read your post. I have to say that I am still dealing with the feelings after watching the program and the feelings expressed by the vets on there. I guess from one point I wish that someone would show what the Koreans did with us there. The feeling of the loss is still hard to deal with but learned more information that only made me feel worse. On thing is we wre in a news blackout being there at the end sort of surprised me. Politics aside I don't think we should have walked away than just as we can't walk away now. If anyone watched "Inside North Korea" before the program it just proves how screwed up brainwashing can be. So the first thing on the news tonight was a War Reporter talking at Purdue about how we can't win and that the next President will inharit this war. Not what I needed to hear. I hope everyone is doing well.

VVA was privileged to host a preview of the film last Wednesday in DC. Because of the graphic nature of the film, we suggested that a note be attached at the end. Please encourage everyone to watch this film, thanks John Rowan, President Just Passing it on. L-Gently

Bill, Congrats on getting your dream on wheels. I was glad to just get a 20ft trailer and my wife and I have spent a third of the time in it stopping at rest areas. Still that was great to pull over and start the generator, turn on the TV & computer plus know you have food. Beats trying to get off in Atlanta to try to eat somewhere. I am also sorry to say that living here next to Purdue I used to run the other direction during games here. They just pulled a thing trying to keep students from camping out to get tickets a week ago. Seems some of them were staying in tents for several days to be in the front of the line. I agree with them and say if they want to sleep in line to get a ticket, more power to "em".

She was hardly ever sick til she started working at the CVS Pharmacy. I'm debating on having another "mini 129th" here on Memorial Day weekend...anyone game??? Mark, are you having "LZ Markymark" again in July or was that too much for you & Dee!? :o)) I wish more people could make it to Kokomo in Sept. That is such a neat weekend. You can rough it or get a motel a few miles away. The 1st year I went, I slept in the cab of my small pickup. Then another year in the back seat of my '92 Mustang convertible (think that wasn't fun). Then one year in a tent with Mark & Ron. Then in a cap on my Ford Ranger and have since upgraded to my '64 Shasta SC 16' towed with my '00 Ford F-150. I think I'm set now for a while!!! FYI-----L-J The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided the following website for veterans to gain access to their DD-214's online: http://vetrecs.archives.gov/ This may be particularly helpful when a veteran needs a copy of his DD-214 for employment purposes. NPRC is working to make it easier for veterans with computers and Internet access to obtain copies of documents from their military files. Military vetera ns and the next of kin of deceased former military members may now use a new online military personnel records system to request documents. Other individuals with a need for documents must still complete the Standard Form 180, which can be downloaded from the online web site. Because the requester will be asked to supply all information essential for NPRC to process the request, delays that normally occur when NPRC has to ask veterans for additional information will be minimized. The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on these requests by eliminating the records centers mailroom and processing time.

Hey Flight, if you are interested in obtaining a copy(s) of "Bite & Strike", send a check for $35 per book made out to "129th AHC" (not to me. The cost covers the book, CDRROM (photo video), packaging, postage, and a little left over for the 129th Christmas Fund. The book is over 300 pages with hundreds of photos, a beautiful glossy cover with artwork from Joe Kline (a vietnam vet and nationally recognized artist). There are only about 40 books left and when they are gone - they are gone! So, if you want one, get your checks to: 129th AHS, 6344 Summer Grace St., Colorado Springs, CO 80923. I do remember that much. It was east of our base just around the corner of the pucat mts. I remember because if the AC hadn't listen to me that day we would of crashed on the mountain top. I smell GAS and the AC had the Pilot put on his gas mask before we started unloading. We had to hover and kick them out and the last box was CS Gas and it went everywhere.

James, I too don't remember a lot of names. It was "just another day". For example. To this very day I dont know where we were loading the supplies to take to the Korean grunts.

Rick Thanks, I have been using what I could find on this site and using it but they always want more proof. I know alot of our brothers don't remember alot like me. When I went on a mission I never knew what it was or where it was. It was a job and it didn't seem to matter at the time or I would have written everything down. I just trusted my brothers that I flew with. Have a great day

Flight: The verdict is a ruptured tendon in my left foot. never heard of it before. I will wear a boot for a week or so. The doctor will have some special supports made for my shoes. I'm hoping the doctor is right. As the reunion gets nearer. We will have to have a count on how many 129th Brothers and there Families while be attending this year in St. Louis. It, will matter when it come to a meeting room. The group with the largest group attending will get a room. The hotels aren't giving as many free rooms any more for the mini-reunions that we have had in the past. Always A Brother!! I have added our new email on my last few postings.

Flight: Bill it's been rough lately. At least the Doctors found your problem. Haven't got the results back on my MRI yet. Can't walk or put pressure on my left foot and ankle area. Have to have 3 pain pills a day to get me through to be to walk and work. VA and civilan Doctors are puzzled at the moment. But, hopefully something will show up. St. Louis looks to be a all time high attendance for the 129th. This will be 10th aniversary reunion for the 129th. 1998 in Irving Texas. Glenn Pearmain joined Liz and Myself for the first 129th reunion. With the help of Mark and the web site our 129th reunion has grown. Each year we lose some of our 129th family. That, why I try encourage our 129th Family to attend. If your still in touch with a 129th Brother whom don't visit the web or don't have a computer please write or call and lets get the Brothers and the Families to the reunion. The late Dave Fesmire, cuold get 50 or more every year. And some times as many as a 100 plus. I know we could do this in June 2008. This is our year!! Were not getting any younger. Always A Brother!!
