Hey Flight, I just got a email from ol Roger "Iron Hand" Nagy, Bulldog 17. He replied to a snailmail letter I sent a week ago. We played many many games of cribbage in my hooch on our days off. Spent a few nights too many in the club too, as I remember. Good to hear from him. He has asked about Charlie Huggett too, has any body made contact with him? His email is Army@Blackfoot.com. Says his son is close to graduating from Ft. Benning grunt school.

Kim and Mark, I recall an RON at LZ English for a couple of nights. I remember the droning of the generators, and how it was tough to sleep inside the hot barracks. Rebel, Animal, Ron Jelliff and myself wound up sleeping in the helicopter. The outgoing mortars also made it tough to sleep. Kim, I also remember the club being close to the flight line.

Thor....Cups....I tried to find Ken when I worked for VWoA in Jacksonville which was his last known home town. No luck, people at the number he gave me didn't know him. Never able to find Mike or George either. They are the three I wrote about in "..all moving in the opposite direction". Good to see Stone make contact. I know Flame and Casey will remember him. He and Laughlin were the ones who went down in the Punch Bowl with a low side governer failure. Now if we all keep looking who knows might show up. McElliot was in Sana Cruz CA when I found him in '77 teaching at the little airport. Knapp was in Miami in '74 or '75 they last I saw him. He was trying to get hired on with an airline. Something to do with having a passion for driving a bus. I couldn't talk him into coming down here to help me at the time. He was one of the few who were qualified in a H-34 and that's what we were flying. Okay, enough. I'll try to get more shirts out soon. Cups

Hey Flight! Finally carrying through on some earlier promises. Sent copies of really funny photos last night to Bill Wolf, Mike "Froggie" Miles, and James "Hobie" Jobe. Also dug through a pile of old orders, and sent some pages to Alex, all but one with social security numbers on it. Here's a tester - - - does anybody remember "Chief's" real first name? He was from Oklahoma, last name Smith, and was gunner for me on 495 from 69-71. Can't remember when he left. Found another original 129th patch - never used - in my stuff last night. Does the Pop-A-Top have enough yet?? Had a great visit from Jim "Smitty" Westwang over the 4th of July. It's just cool to keep in touch with people. Heard from Paul Phillips last night - another carryover from when I advertised for a reunion in the Legion magazine a couple years ago. I sent that info to Alex earlier, so don't have anything newer. Let me know if anyone remembers Chief??? Cheers to all!! Ron DeBates

The 129th page has come full circle for me. In the last week I was contacted by a friend of the brother,of Peter pilot, of the "257" that went down with Larry. I have thought, prepaired, prayed and ask for this to happen. I have had one e-mail with the gentleman, but have not thought of what to say next to him. He was 14 when Richard Sawran, the left seater of the "257" went down with Larry.....I am just not sure as what to say. I have so many questios. Does he feel as I do about the conflict? Does he feel the loss of his brother every day? Does he have momentoes of his brothers? Would he be interested in all the photos of the crash? Does he want to read the 82 page crash investigation of the "257" that I have?................I don't know? I just don't know........but I will embark on a moission to find out and will give all of you a full report. Hopfully I can get him to enter into the FLIGHT LOG BOOK. ...................just sat around and watched a lil' TV tonight. I had one gfuy tell me that he would bet me $100.00 that a drunk could of passed out in the Pop-A-Top, and never hit the floor last Saturday night. We were ass hole to belly button in there. Those of you that have been there at the Pop-A-Top. Imagine 250 heads in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...it was crazy. Did not even have time to put the cases of beer in the coolers. They were sold befor we got them in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........nice cash night;-)))))))))))) .......................I best be off......Pan Fried Chicken and Corn onda cob with smashed taders and gravy tomorrow for the lunch special. Cups, Bad spelling nearly always ruins a good thought! Back home here we have "Little Britches Rodeo". Some PR guy had left out the "r" in "Britches" on one prominently displayed sign... there were some angry parents. As far as the motto, I found one on an old set of orders with the 1st Aviation Brigade's letterhead. It said in Vietnamese, "Nguy Hiem", whatever that means... I think your explanation is pretty close. Clear Left...

Flight....The first batch of shirts are out to Mark and Alex, two dozen each, one large and one X-large ea. After sending them Katharine informed me there is a mistake. There is no T in Strike on the patch. I got a request for the shirts from a slick driver who flew in the later years of the unit who commented about the snake on the back. My response is the slicks had no motto I knew of and if they did what would it be " You Call and We Piss on Your Leg". At any rate, if you receive a shirt and anyone notices the error just tell them " All The Gunnies Had a Lisp" ...... Gently....Thanks for the food for thought..... More shirts will be going out when the next person travels.....Casey????.....Nolan????....Flame?????....Here we go!...Cups

Hello to all-nice to read all the commo, which keeps me a breast of what everyone is doing and how they are. I'm starting to pack for Phoenix, well, maybe not pack, but I am starting to save the big bucks. This is the weekend to remember the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasacki. And though I believe it saved many lives(as did Agent Orange in Nam), I also know it destroyed many lives and still does today(as does Agent Orange). So dear brothers and sisters, a moment of silence over the weekend is requested of you, for all who suffered or are suffering from the results of war. With gentle thoughts, Gently

ALEX have you heard any thing on the pomes that were read at this years reunion?????????????? I thought there was going to be a tap made of them?????????????????????? Mark, glad to hear things go well for you, I have a couple of requests for you, first is there any way you could add a spell checker to this, as I attended a school system that did not place a great deal on teaching this skill, and often I am imbarresed at what I see later. Second did you get a chance to snap a picture of the plaque, I stll have questions being thrown at me as to what it finnaly looked like, but I never took one befor I brought it down. Well my brothers (sisters too) I hope ypu are all doing well.................Tails clear left.............Casey

Before I was assigned to the 129th (Feb '71-Apr '71) I was in the 170th AHC & 119th AHC, both of which were in the 52nd Combat Avaition Batallion. LTC Ronald H. Merritt was the Battalion Commander in '70-'71. The 52nd CAB was headquartered in Pleiku at that time.
