Yeah Rick, if he's the cigar smoker......his name was Guethring (spelling?). No one much liked him. He & I got it into it once on a hoochmaid run to QuiNhon. I was driving the deuce & a half when we got pinned down by sniper fire. I think we were on Hwy 1 where it curved at the base of a mountain & the sniper was in the hillside. After we finally got out of that mess, he tried to pull rank on me. On the way back the sniper was still at it and he ordered me to drive through it and I told him to "stick it." I turned around and took the other route. He was steaming!! When we got back to Lane, he went straight to the CO & reported me. Later the CO & Sgt Smith called me in and questioned me on the matter. After I told my story, they just grinned and told me I did the right thing. After that we both kept our distance from each other. I think he was our TI after Newt, but, I'm not sure anymore. Rick, how 'bout I drink a Miller for ya at the "Top"? Iffin you want....I might drink a few. Clear, Gale

Hi Flight, Never heard of a "CONSERVATION CHRISTIAN" before but I am still learning. To that person I would say; You could have cut that down to about 50 words and therefore conserving some words and some reading time. Just an observation, no ax to grind. Too old. Jim.

FROM A CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN.................... Normally one would never find me defending a left-wing liberal, especially one from the spoiled and vapid community of Hollyweird. For the most part I have very little sympathy for their oft televised trials, tribulations and brain-dead politics (ie, Rosie O'Donnell's 'I can have an armed body guard, but you can't have a gun'-ism). When Sean Penn visited Iraq I wanted to barf. I finally did when he appeared on Larry King to talk about his Iraq experiences and simply mumbled incoherently for an hour. I don't think it's possible to more despise a group of people so out of touch with reality as I do the West Coast 'Axis of Idiocy.' The Baldwins and Sheens and Madonnas don't represent American mainstream politics or morals and never will. The Michael Moores are nothing but blowhards who usually can't see the forest for the trees (and don't want to). And that's ok... if they weren't around to astound us with their utter rebellion against anything and everything middle-America holds dear, and their phenomenal acts of stupidity, we wouldn't have any entertainment; God knows they aren't making any decent films or television anymore! Simultaneously, I abhor the right-wing Neocon (and not so neo Neocon!) flatheads like Fox's Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. They are equally disassociated from reality, with equally inflated ego's as their "actor" counterparts in Hollyweird whom they love to prop up as icons of everything bad and evil in America, perpetually straw-manning the liberal left and knocking it down as though Cher or The Dixie Chicks were the spokespersons for democrats left of center. Their slant against the west coast entertainment elite is simply a tool of Republican conservative polarization technique and nothing more. And the saddest thing is... it's working. But Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon represent something altogether different in this battle over the issues of this war, this administration and Constitutionally-protected free speech. With them comes the true battleground and everyone should take notice. Neither of them are given to excess hyperbole or ad homonym attacks against those who differ with them politically (save what they have to say against those presently in power, which is fair game); they're vocal, but not ridiculously verbose or acidic. What has transpired recently has not quite sunk in for most Americans. This isn't a left vs. right issue, though the right (and yes, indeed, many leftists) want it to be in order to further polarize the citizenry. No, this is an issue of conscience, of respect for our Constitutional republic, dying though it may be before our very eyes. It would be wrong to toss Robbins or Sarandon onto the heap of Hollywood politi-hogs who use the media and world events to keep their name in lights, or who simply prattle off about issues during fits of manic depression like O'Donnell, only to apologize for it and its impact on the Oprah-ized sheeple later. What we are seeing daily on Fox television is nothing short of state-run television, there is nothing "fair or balanced" about it. Viewpoints counter to this administration and the war are treated with utter disdain across the 24 hour live news splatter. That's NOT Journalism! The 'embedded' reporting of the war has sucked them into a foxhole where there can be no other view but down the barrel of a rifle at the "enemy" this administration invented by way of twisting facts, evidence, minds and hearts after 911. That puts people who oppose the war and/or oppose this administration because of the war in a "pro-Saddam" camp, which many of the political pundits on Fox willfully misconstrue as often as possible, like a mantra or hypnotic suggestion, furthering the polarization of people against one another over an issue which truly has nothing to do with republicans vs. democrats, liberals vs. conservatives. One either respects constitutionally protected free speech and the right to dissent, or one does not. Only one of these can be an "enemy of the state" and the constitution. One Fox news anchor muttered, "They're going in to do the Lord's work," as Coalition forces rolled into Basra. Under normal circumstances, heads would have rolled over that one. But nothing happened. Anti-war protesters and pro-peace activists have been referred to as 'freaks.' It is becoming commonplace for Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity to cut off the mics of guests who don't capitulate to their "America, love it or leave it" Archie Bunkerisms on programs where debate and free exchange are supposed to be exampled. One O'Reilly guest was a relative of a 911 victim, but only moments into a discussion with him, O'Reilly flew into a rage, cut the guy's mic off and tossed him off his show, screaming at him to "Shut up! Shut up!". Why? He dared to be someone close to 911 who wasn't using it to muzzle-pack psychological ammo against Iraq. As soon as the man was asked for his opinion, his opinion was terminated in rude and outrageous fits of anger. O'Reilly acted as if it was utterly impossible for someone to be that close to the 911 tragedy and yet not be brainwashed by 911 fever into believing the party-line of Doublespeak: 911 + Osama + Terrorism = Saddam x Iraq = War. Simply unthinkable to oppose such 2+2=5 logic. NBC is showing signs of buckling to the same strange pressure, as demonstrated by the unfathomable censoring of Robbins on The Today Show. In a generally liberal controlled media, one has to wonder how this happens. But there's the rub -- this issue has transcended the common left/right line we've grown so accustom to and it is not being recognized as a paramount issue of common liberties in the balance. We're seeing a rebirth of McCarthyism, only this time its pulpit isn't the Congress, but the idiot box, and the end result is still blacklisting and the silencing of voices of dissent popularized as the "American way." It's patriotic to label those who oppose the war and this administration as "un-American." I don't know how many times Fox anchors and pundits have noted that peace rallies were backed or organized by 'communist groups' (with the bubble-headed bleach blonde anchors bobbing their heads up and down, wide-eyed, as though someone had skulked out the very devil himself in that bit of news. Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my! ), that people in the peace movement are all radical "leftists" (those strange people who are pro-peace, heaven forbid!) and those who oppose the Bush strategy commonly characterized as "liberals" as though the word meant "monster." Let's face it -- if you oppose the war, you oppose Bush, and if you oppose Bush you oppose America. That's what the media, by and large, and this administration have generated in this country. You're a filthy liberal, an un/anti-American commie and must therefore be pro-Saddam, either openly or secretly. You need to be watched. There's something WRONG with you. It means you WANT to see the Iraqi people suffer under a brutal dictatorship and WANT to see weapons of mass destruction get into the hands of terrorists headed for America. Pat Buchanan is an un-American, leftist, commie liberal???? The Pope WANTS people in Iraq to suffer under Saddam's regime? Truly, the world has turned upside down and inside out overnight. At least on Fox. Fox would have us believe that it all breaks down over a simple, partisan political principle, left vs. right, socialists vs. capitalists, demos vs. repubs... the same old tired nonsense we've had spoon fed to us by media for ages. It's simply nonsense. Anti-American? What does that mean, exactly? When Sen. Joseph McCarthy used such words, it was to trample down any voices of dissent to a view of America personally manufactured by himself -- one which openly-violated the Constitutionally protected free speech and free press, creating a "black list," with congressional powers so intimidating that -- though unofficial -- few of those placed on the black list could find work, as employers feared being called forward themselves and having their patriotism placed in question before the public, which alone was enough to ruin many lives and many careers. It's happening again. It's happening now. There is a simple definition for this kind of brute mentality and unconstitutional abuse of power and mind control -- FASCISM. Americans, like Joseph McCarthy, are perfectly willing to ignore the Constitutional Republic upon which this nation is founded and seek to persecute those who will not bow down to their special 'king'... not merely an elected president anymore, but by sheer magnitude of persuasion they tacitly are admitting that GWB is king of America, or is America itself as if by some divine spectacular he has been imbued with all the facets of Truth, Justice and the American Way. By the very suggestion that opposing the war and questioning the administration and keeping the public mindful of our own national disgraces and atrocities, inhumanities and violations of both moral and international law, many are called "un/anti-American." Thus, those making the charge are admitting that we no longer operate under a Constitution of set and protected liberties; rather, that we are under mob rule, that the two (or more) party system is defunct and we have a fascist dictatorship to which everyone MUST profess allegiance or suffer the consequences. Therefore all who make such charges have willfully and willingly sold their constitutional liberties away and exchanged them for a fascist nationalism. This administration has utterly raped our Constitution in the name of 'homeland defense.' While they have the nation all rattled about terrorists with color-coded warnings right out of some bad sci-fi book, they took your Constitution and burned it. Many don't realize the gravity of this fact. Under the current laws, you have no Constitutional rights whatsoever if the federal government decides to classify you as part of the terrorist threat; and the FBI's official list of groups and people considered to be "likely" to fall into this category even include Christians who believe in the End Times and "lone individuals." Pretty broad-brushed! When the government decided it did not want to have to obey Geneva Convention rules, it changed the definition of a POW so it could deliberately violate those rules, calling the POWS from Afghanistan "unlawful combatants"! If another nation did this, they'd be swiftly labeled "evil." Meanwhile the administration rails against other nations holding POWS and their violating Geneva Convention rules. Is this American justice? Constitutionally-protected dissent and free press/free speech are the hallmark of what makes this country great and unique. It is the heart and core of the REAL America. Yet, certain people have decided they and they alone are truly patriotic Americans and all who dissent are "commies" or "enemies" of the state, in direct violation of everything our Constitution stands for and protects. We have an obligation to speak up, speak out and keep things on an even footing while Americans are being drowned in propaganda and a nationalism bordering on fascism and self-righteousness; gross self-interest at the expense of nearly every other nation on earth that doesn't "toe the line" according to our dictates, empowered and backed first by financial blackmail and then by military might. This isn't anti-American rhetoric. This is a Pro-Constitutional morality-check in the midst of serious emotional and intellectual manipulation of the masses. Especially during this time of unbridled 'nationalism' and patriotic fervor, those of sound mind MUST level the playing field. How would you like it if fundamentalist Muslims worldwide, who believe they are morally superior to us in the west (we're infidels and sinners as they see it) decided they'd invade America and right all our wrongs?? What if they invaded and decided to end racism, set free OUR political prisoners, close our bars and distilleries, shut down the porn industry and impose THEIR concept of "right society" upon US? Do we have the MORAL upper hand simply because we allow personal excess, breed poverty and injustice like Kudzu and encourage a system that lets the rich get richer and the poor poorer? Where is the moral upper hand here?? It's a sick, sad illusion passed off on the sheeple by keeping us convinced that if we have personal excess and Playstation 2 it is the mark of true freedom. That excess has a price, and the price is paid by the third world where most of our corporations set up shop for slave labor as we consume more than 70% of the world's resources - while comprising less than 5% of the world's population. Saddam slaughtered approximately a quarter million people in 20 years. That's according to Red Cross, Amnesty International and UN figures. Many question the numbers, but let's say its true. Be it 100 or 100,000, it's heartbreaking and sick, we would all agree. But, do you know how many people WE slaughtered in the last 20 years...? by abortion on demand... by knowingly sending faulty parts, outdated chemicals and medicines or contaminated food to third world counties? I bet those Afghanis really liked the way we made our day-glow care packets the same size, shape and color as our unexploded cluster bombs... 30% of which never detonate, until some poor, hungry Afghani kid walks up and grabs it thinking its food from America. How many were killed in India when the Union Carbide plant exploded due to rank negligence? The death toll continues to climb there. Seems we have the nasty habit of killing in the long term, with horrifying, lingering effects. How many are dying right now due to Depleted Uranium used in our shell casings and missiles in Iraq? How many people died during the Iran-Contra debacle? How many in Panama, Nicaragua and El Salvador because our gov't wanted to establish its own turf in the international drug cartel? How many died when we sent AIDS laden serums for vaccinations to Africa 10 years ago and super-boosted the pandemic there? What's the projected death rate? 5-6 million? We're outdoing Hitler, now, with those numbers. The list goes on and on. The difference is, we just don't usually kill our own people in blatant, obvious ways...we seem to save that for special occasions like Ruby Ridge and Waco. So, what's the difference? NONE. Killing and slaughtering people is killing and slaughtering people. Atrocities are atrocities. We have our fair share and the news likes to keep people in denial about it. To dare to suggest we do not have the moral upper hand is presently verboten. Neil Cavuto of Fox recently uttered a few truthful syllables, though he decimated the issue entirely. "Pay back is a bitch..." he said, commenting on the left wing Hollywood elite being shut out for their opinions (namely, Robbins/Sarandon). Yes, there was a trace of truth in what he said. For many, many years people of conservative values and convictions in Hollyweird have been quietly blackballed, blacklisted, shut out, shut down, co-opted, disenfranchised, silenced and demeaned by the predominantly liberal culture of the West Coast entertainment industry. For more than 20 years prime time television has been utterly in the hands of liberal writers and producers to the point that even the most lame-brained sit-com is used continually as a soap box for liberal viewpoints, while conservatives, Christians and middle-America is portrayed as backward, idiotic or even dangerously insane. Cavuto had a point. But the fact that he would choose the Tim Robbins affair to make this point is precisely why Fox television is a disturbingly twisted right-wing mutation and propaganda machine. Robbins was slandered; his patriotism and moral character were subjected to scrutiny by people who aren't worthy to tie his shoes. Even his family was attacked by the press. He was slandered, clearly, and that is a far cry from mere political fist-to-cuffs where two parties agree to disagree and life goes on. His right to free speech and constitutionally protected dissent is what is up for grabs here; not just his, but yours and mine. First it's Tim and his views... then it's you and your views. First it's 'Catcher in the Rye', next it's the Bible being chucked out of the school library. If we don't protect our Constitutional liberties, and fight for them, they will be quickly swept out from under us without a single Ruby Ridge-like shot being fired. The battlefield for our freedom doesn't lie on the dusty plains of ancient Babylon hunting for weapons of mass destruction, dripping with the blood of both American soldiers and innocent Iraqi "collateral damage"... it's right here, right now, whether you stand up against tyranny with all politics aside, or you don't. Stand up against it even if the person being wronged is someone with whom you vehemently disagree. For their rights and your rights are manifest from the same, wonderful, awe-inspiring Constitution. It serves us all. There is a fight for freedom which does not involve bullets and bloodshed. The powers that be want desperately to convince us that the thing we must fear the most is foreign terrorism, when in reality the greatest threat to our liberty is running the whole show. And running the Constitution into an early grave. This is one conservative Christian who will not have the wool pulled over his eyes by political game players while our liberties are being raped.

Hello to all my 129th family. I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter weekend and are getting into spring. It has been pretty cool here in Michigan and that has been keeping the bike in the garage. Looking foreward to the ride to Atlanta and warmer weather. Tom Shanahan, I don't recall the "foggy" situation you are asking about. I flew mainly to the south, in the Miami Beach area where Capt. Kim was the guy that seemed to be directing out missions. I talked and worked with him several times and found him to be a very fine guy. I heard he was killed after I left and must say that was quite a loss. He was a good man to work with and made the missions a lot easier. Gale Beard... How are the plans coming for a mini at the Pop-A-Top next weekend? I haven't seen anything more on it and am hoping to be able to ride down. It would be nice to have a little get-together B4 Atlanta. Seems like it has been a LONG time ago.. I am ready! I have been working a lot and don't post much but do try to keep up on the mail. OH.. By the way... I will be attending Atlanta alone and was wondering if anyone would like to share a room?? It sure helps cut the cost. Let me know if interested and I will make reservations. Gently.. I hope your father is doing better!! Fred.. Congrads!! Take care and I hope to be seeing you all soon!!... Kal..

A mission from long ago has been bugging me for years. Looking for assistance in remembering. Early on in 1968 (not sure if it was before or after Tet), we had a gun mission to pick up the Korean observer, CPT Kim if memory serves, and fly north to do a recon by fire north of the eastern entrance to the An Khe Pass. Picked up the observer, flew north through the notch towards Phu Cat AFB. Early morning, bright sunshine, no clouds. Noted a village up highway 19 towards the Pass that was covered in white, sparkling fog from ground level up to a hundred feet or so. No wind and the “fog” just sat there and sparkled in the sunlight. I made some ‘what the heck is that’ signs to CPT Kim and he talked on his radio a bit and then said artillery, go way around it. So we did. Got to the place of the mission, shot up a lot of ravines and grass and trees and flew back. The fog was gone on the return trip so we flew by the village. There did not appear to be anything alive in the village. Just wondering if anyone else remembers the sparkling fog and the aftermath of it. Might as well say it – I never practiced better living through chemistry so while it was a strange vision it was real. Cobra Soothsayer, 67-68

Fred A. I agree that Mike Jordan brought more to the table in sports, than his basketball skills. But I was just "taken back", by the fact that was the topic of conversation in North Carolina. The people down here have watched his skills and growth as a person since high school. No one had question the honor in the media or anywhere else. Like I said...I was to busy eating and listening.

Mike Jordon is a class act, always has been. The American dream came true for him.He added much to the game of basketball and pro sports.More need to be like him.Sure, y not give him a flag, its a great honor. The "anni" one tho? Seems that one could go to a better place, no disrespect intended. Perhaps a "new" gold star mother? One of the pow's? Mike Jordon is one heck of a legend but to discribe him as a hero?..sorry, not in my book.I personally think that word gets thrown around way to much in discribing some folks. Jordon was richly rewarded for his talent and in his endevors.Rather see him get it than ..say.. dennis Rodman. Sure, give him a flag, he is a proud american and gathers respect worldwide.I think he is a better american than say... the dixie chicks. shrug, just my opinion. clear right.

Good Morning Flight.....Happy Easter...This is one of the couple times a year, this and Xmas that my wife and I get up early and go to church. This morning Kim and I as always just go driving and pick a church and go. God is God and Jesus is Jesus, not matter where your choice is to go to church. Being that I was raised Baptist, in my early life, we decided to go to a Baptist church. As we were driving along we spotted a baptist church. It appeared that the services had already started because all the cars were in the parking lot and doors was closed. Kim and I thought "better late than never' so we went into the church. Upon getting inside it dawn on us, this is a all-black church. Well it just didn`t seem prudent to turn around and leave, so we set down and enjoyed the sermon and singing and the services period. Kim and I really enjoyed everything about this church. We got a few looks, but nothing that concerned us. When people get to singing the gospel, it just seems that the "holy ghost" does affect you. But after every thing was over, Kim and I started to leave.... as we were leaving...I felt a hand on my shoulder. Hoping that there was someone behind me when I turned around, there was, it was the pastor of the church. He ask if Kim and I would like to stay for "the breakfast" that they were having in the basement. Of course, Kim and I told him. Well the only time I keep my mouth shut, is when I`m eating. No coversation at the table, I`m eating....pick that habit up in the army...and it`s stayed with me through out life. But the topic of conversation at breakfast was Michael Jordan. North Carolina is his home state!!!!But the folks were talking about Mike being rewarded the "American Flag" from the Honorable Mr. Rumsfeld, for his "final" retirement. It was the flag that flew over the Pentagon on the first anniversary of 9/11. Conversation was....Was that the appropriate "thing to do" at this time in our history? Was Mike a "american hero" and "role model"? Is it a statement on our "value system" in America? A thought provoking subject!!!! Me personally....I`m a BIG "sports freak", more so than the average person....But like I was saying.....I was eating....I keep my mouth shut!!!!!! Happy Easter everyone......and my prayers are with all of your families.....

I'm very thankful to have found this site and met so many wonderful soldiers and sisters. Some of you I have actually met and feel especially close to: I anticipate that at the re-union in Atlanta we will all become a little closer, and that's something wonderful I look forward to. You have changed my focus in life and because of that I have had many new beginnings, so on this Easter Sunday I will bask in the sunshine of our friendships, and thank God for the love, laughter, and sharing you have brought into my life. Flight...Just a Lighter Side note here, back in 1985 Kim and I were home in Harpster,Ohio(Pop.343) for a celebration of her parents house becoming 100 years old. The community was invited to attend a "open house" party. While there I noticed a little boy throwning baseball by himself and chasing it in the front yard. He was 3 1/2 or 4 years old. I thought what the heck, I`ll play "pitch and catch" with him. Well that little boy could throw hard and accurate, it amazed me. And years later he would get a "full ride" scholarship in baseball to Ohio State University as a pitcher. Well last week Greg Prenger "that little boy" pitched the first perfect game (no hitter) in the 120 year history of Buckeyes baseball. He also made this weeks Sports Illustrated section "Faces in the Crowd".

I also took today off but it was for a funeral, a WO-4 I worked with about 12 years and have known for about 20 passed away wednesday. I sure am gonna miss that old fart. he was the one that talked me into re-upping and getting my 20 in. warrants don't come any better than Jim was. he had 40 years in when he retired. started as a sniper in Korea and held every rank from E-1 to E-9 and then went to Warrant. well enough of that ...... everybody have a great week. later, Don

A few weeks ago, I had some pictures digitalized so they could be placed in the Gallery. Several were of my husband, Claud P. Strother, who was killed 4/27/72 and one picture was of someone I do not know. I would like to check and see if they can get added to the Gallery. Thanks, Diane

Don't Get A Big Head............... United States has won the war, but it must guard against isolationism, overextension....... Sunday, April 13, 2003................ The war in Iraq is not over, but it is won. Iraq's former leaders are captive, dead or on the run. A few diehards hold out, but not for long. As predicted, though not as soon as expected, Iraqis are greeting their liberation from Saddam Hussein with jubilation. The delay occurred because Iraqis wanted absolute assurance that this time coalition forces were serious about removing Saddam. Once they were certain that the dictator's secret police would not return to punish them, the populations of liberated cities and territories erupted in joy. Scenes of U.S. and British troops being greeted with flowers and hugs are gratifying. This is a good victory, fought on the coalition side with as much decency and humanity as is possible in war. The outcome also is good. The destruction of a terror state is a worthy end. Tens of thousands of people who were destined to be tortured or die at the hands of Saddam and his brutal enforcers have been spared. Millions will experience liberty that they have never known, for as long as they choose to preserve it. This is the second time in less than two years that the United States has crushed an oppressive regime and liberated a nation, both times at relatively low cost in human life. The effect on rogue regimes around the globe will be profound. Terror-sponsoring Syria and Iran now confront the fact that half the armed forces of the world's only superpower sit on their borders. If the leaders of those nations are smart, they will engage in some behavior modification. The leaders of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Libya will not be sleeping as comfortably knowing that their own suppressed populations have watched televised images of Iraqis exulting as Saddam's statue was pulled down in Baghdad. But as the war winds down and Americans savor the sweet taste of victory, there is a great danger: hubris. The victories in Afghanistan and Iraq may feed the idea that the United States is omnipotent and that it not only can be, but should be, the world's cop. Hereafter, the nation may feel free to dispense with diplomacy. The philosophical basis of the attack on Iraq was the new doctrine propounded by President Bush that the United States has the right to launch pre-emptive action against states that pose a threat to U.S. security, even when the danger is not imminent. This is a revolutionary rewriting of international law, one that begs for more national debate. But the success in Iraq could pre-empt that debate. As for being the world's policeman, the United States appears to have reached its limits. With major forces tied down in Afghanistan, Iraq and South Korea, not to mention many smaller deployments worldwide, resources are stretched to their limits. The federal budget deficit already is ballooning, so any additional money devoted to overseas military action will lead to punishing increases in the national debt. Nor does the United States want to isolate itself any further from the international community. Unilateralism sometimes is justified but not as standard practice. For example, the United States cannot win the war against terrorism alone. It needs the help of other governments to track down terrorists, their arms and their money. Effective cooperation from other nations cannot be compelled; it must be given willingly. Unilateralism may discourage cooperation. Americans should be proud of the liberation of Iraq but remember that without humility and a recognition of the limits of power, the nation could easily stumble.

Fred, the best information I have in it is from the Secret Service website: http://www.secretservice.gov/alert419.shtml I guess a "419" is actually a police code, but not here in the U.S. Usually, the names are picked up from chat rooms and places like here where people post.

Let me see if I got my computer skills down right.............PUBLIC AWARENESS ADVISORY REGARDING "4-1-9" OR "ADVANCE FEE FRAUD" SCHEMES 4-1-9 Schemes frequently use the following tactics: An individual or company receives a letter or fax from an alleged "official" representing a foreign government or agency; An offer is made to transfer millions of dollars in "over invoiced contract" funds into your personal bank account; You are encouraged to travel overseas to complete the transaction; You are requested to provide blank company letterhead forms, banking account information, telephone/fax numbers; You receive numerous documents with official looking stamps, seals and logo testifying to the authenticity of the proposal; Eventually you must provide up-front or advance fees for various taxes, attorney fees, transaction fees or bribes; Other forms of 4-1-9 schemes include: c.o.d. of goods or services, real estate ventures, purchases of crude oil at reduced prices, beneficiary of a will, recipient of an award and paper currency conversion. If you have already lost funds in pursuit of the above described scheme, please contact the U.S. Secret Service in Washington, D.C. at 202-406-5572 or by e-mail.

Ms.Karey, thanks for the info.....when you said,"419", that sounded so much like a law enforcement professional. I`m watching to many "cop shows" on TV. Does the stuff originate from actual Africa or from here in the states? I know I`ve got stuff that has actually said, "Dear Freddie"........Only my mother and a few friends at home and on the web-site call me Freddie. They must have a "field-day" with our "contact" section of the web-site.

Fred - This is a scam. It's done in letter form, but more recently, I've seen it all over the internet. The scam itself violates section 419 of the Nigerian criminal code. When you receive one of these e-mails, it's supposed to be forwarded to the FBI or the U.S. Secret Service. If you type in "FBI" and "Nigerian scam", you can read more about it. I'm not in law inforcement, but I have communicated with the FBI about this, as have many internet users. I just like to point these people out whereever and whenever I can. It's pretty sad to read what they've done to some people.

SOLICITING FOR ASSISTANCE AND BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP INVESTMENT OF US$ 10.5 MILLION Dearest One, I am the son of Late Dr.SIMON JERRY who was a renowned politician of the republic of Sierra Leone in West Africa, base on the information I gathered from the international directory of your credibility, I decided to contact you for assistance. Regarding my zeal towards foreign investments and securing my life and possessions. I therefore write you a break - down of this proposal. I presume you are aware when a group of rebel soldiers led by Sir. Foday Sankoh overthrew the Government of Sierra Leone forcing the President out of power and killing a number of ministers including some politicians. After this political crisis, My Father went into exile for safety due to pursuance from the present government under the leadership of Alhaji Tijan Kabbah who sees my father as an opposition to his corrupt government. Though we later heard that my father died while in exile, however, before his death, he has in his possession a treasure containing a huge sum of US$ 10.5 million. (Ten million, five hundred thousand united states dollars). When it became apparently obvious that the country was no longer safe for citizens due to political crises and massive killing and destruction of properties, I and my mother took the treasure across to Abidjan Cote d' Ivoire West Africa and deposit it with a security company for further shipment to Eroupe or Canada, while we are still here Abidjan Cote D' Ivoire West Africa where I am presently seeking political asylum. Meanwhile, I am seeking for a reliable and trust worthy person who will serve as the guardian of this money, with whom I could plan the best way to invest this money, and this is why am contacting you with all hope that you will help me achieve this dream. To show my appreciation for your assistance in conduct this business with me, I shall give you 10% of the total money and 5% for miscellaneous expense while the remaining 85% belong to me, which I intend to invest into any profitable Business in your country. Details of how I intend to carry out this project will be discussed as soon as I get a respond of your willingness and interest. I sincerely willappreciate your urgent acknowledgment as soon as possible by contacting me on my telephone number and email address as given above. Thank you, God bless you. Mr. ANTHONY JERRY.

My Dad also has had a rough year and as the saying goes "we have become the parent" Dad had spinal sx with triple fusion etc in March and thankfully is now in rehab and walking with walker but making progress. My son was here from Oregon for a few days as well and daughter and son-in-law come tomorrow. David, my son, was proudly wearing his 129th hat which isn't bad considering he was an Air Force type. Fred A. you are so right.....His bio is so long I`ll type part of it, very impressive stuff______________Kris Kristofferson_________________ aka. Kris Karson , Kris Carson , Kristoffer Kristofferson___________ Born June 22,1936, the eldest of three children of an Air Force major general who retired from the military to head up air operations for the Saudi Arabian company Aramco, Kristofferson spent most of his childhood in Brownsville, TX, though his family moved around, finally settling in San Mateo, CA, by his junior high school years. He graduated from San Mateo High School in 1954 and entered Pomona College in Claremont, CA. There he studied creative writing and he won first prize and three other placements in a collegiate short-story contest sponsored by Atlantic Monthly magazine. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1958, having secured a prestigious Rhodes scholarship to continue his studies at Oxford University in England. While at Oxford, he wrote and performed his own songs. After earning a master's degree in English literature from Oxford in 1960, Kristofferson intended to continue his studies there. But during a Christmas break back home in California, he resumed his relationship with an old girlfriend, Fran Beir, and they married. Instead of returning to Oxford, he joined the Army. Like his father, he became a pilot, learning to fly helicopters. He was assigned to West Germany and went there with his wife and their daughter. During the early '60s, while rising to the rank of captain, he eventually returned to writing and performing, organizing a soldiers' band to play at service clubs. Hearing his songs, a friend suggested sending them to a relative of his, the Nashville songwriter Marijohn Wilkin. Kristofferson did so and he received encouragement from Wilkin, who had become a music publisher by founding Bighorn Music. In 1965, Kristofferson was re-assigned to the West Point military academy, where he was to become an English instructor. He spent a two-week leave in June 1965 in Nashville, where he looked up Wilkin and decided to try to become a country songwriter instead. He resigned his commission and moved his family to Nashville, signing to Bighorn, which gave him a small weekly stipend that he augmented with a variety of jobs including janitorial work, bartending, and flying helicopters to and from offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.

In 1944, millions of Americans were engaged in desperate battles across the world. Nonetheless, a normal presidential election was held, and the opposition didn't pull its punches: Thomas Dewey, the Republican candidate, campaigned on the theme that Franklin Roosevelt was a "tired old man." As far as I've been able to ascertain, the Roosevelt administration didn't accuse Dewey of hurting morale by questioning the president's competence. After all, democracy ?? including the right to criticize ?? was what we were fighting for........................... It's not a slur on the courage of our troops, or a belittling of the risks they face, to say that our current war is a mere skirmish by comparison. Yet self-styled patriots are trying to impose constraints on political speech never contemplated during World War II, accusing anyone who criticizes the president of undermining the war effort...................... Last week John Kerry told an audience that "what we need now is not just a regime change in Saddam Hussein and Iraq, but we need a regime change in the United States." Republicans immediately sought to portray this remark as little short of treason. "Senator Kerry crossed a grave line when he dared to suggest the replacement of America's commander in chief at a time when America is at war," declared Marc Racicot, chairman of the Republican National Committee................. Notice that Mr. Racicot wasn't criticizing Mr. Kerry's choice of words. Instead, he denounced Mr. Kerry because he "dared to suggest the replacement of America's commander in chief" ?? knowing full well that Mr. Kerry was simply talking about the next election. Mr. Racicot, not Mr. Kerry, is the one who crossed a grave line; never in our nation's history has it been considered unpatriotic to oppose an incumbent's re-election...................................... Anyway, what defines patriotism? Talk is cheap; so is putting a flag in your lapel. Citizens prove their patriotism when they make sacrifices for the sake of their country. Mr. Kerry, a decorated veteran, has met that test. Most of his critics haven't............................. I'm not just talking about military service ?? though it's striking how few of our biggest hawks have served. Nor am I talking only about financial sacrifice ?? though profiting from public office seems to be the norm, not the exception, among those who wrap themselves in the flag. (Mr. Racicot himself accepted the job as R.N.C. chairman only on the condition that he remain on the payroll of Bracewell and Patterson, a law firm that specializes in lobbying........................................ The biggest test of a politician's patriotism is whether he is willing to sacrifice some of his political agenda for the sake of the nation. And that's a test our current leaders have failed with flying colors....................................... Consider the case of Tom DeLay, the House majority leader, who also piled on Mr. Kerry last week. As it happens, during the war in Kosovo Mr. DeLay was a defeatist, and blamed his own country for provoking Serbian atrocities; any Democrat who said similar things now would be accused of giving aid and comfort to the enemy......................................... Mr. DeLay's political agenda hasn't shifted a bit now that we're at war again. He's still pushing for huge, divisive tax cuts that go mainly to the rich: "Nothing is more important in the face of a war than cutting taxes," he says. And he's still eager to slash any and all domestic spending. In the midst of war he pushed through a budget that included sharp cuts in, yes, veterans' benefits.................................... You can see why Mr. Kerry blasted back, "I'm not going to be questioned in my patriotism by the likes of Tom DeLay............................................... Some timid souls will suggest that critics of the Bush administration hold off until the war is over. But that's not the American tradition ?? and anyway, when will this war be over? Baghdad will fall, but during the occupation that follows American soldiers will still be in harm's way. Also, a strong faction within the administration wants to go on to Syria, to Iran and beyond. And Al Qaeda is still out there........................ For years to come, then, this country may be, in some sense, at war. And all that time, if Mr. Racicot and his party are allowed to set the ground rules, nobody will be allowed to criticize the president or call for his electoral defeat. You know what? If that happens, we will have lost the war, whatever happens on the battlefield.

Dear Flight, """Especially Kathleen:"" This is a note I received from a young woman who wears William Dunlap's MIA bracelet. She saw the Memorial I posted on "thevirtualwall," posted on it herself, and I was then sent a notice by those two wonderful guys who run it, Ken and Jim, that this person posted to Bill. I then contacted her. Bill Dunlap was in the same craft as Mike Shanley, Bill Sanderlin, and Martin Vanden Eykel who were all declared MIA 12/2/69. I'm going to be giving her the web site address so she can join us. She belongs here because she has cared for one of "ours" for so-o long. "Hello Judith. My name is Karey Billingsley, and I am the person that wore Bill's bracelet and added the message to the Virtual Wall recently. I'm not sure how to contact the 129th, but I sure would like to meet those that you mention that may be interested in meeting or communicating with me. Although Bill and I had the same birthday, I was only 9 years old when he was reported missing. I lived in Pittsburgh at the time, and I have since moved to California where I have resided for many years. I'll never forget the impact Bill had on my life even though we never met. I remember when they televised the return of the first P.O.W.'s and as they called out the names of each soldier as they left the plane, I waited to hear William C Dunlap. Obviously, that didn't happen, but I held out such hope for the longest time. Please feel free to forward this to anyone that you feel may be interested in communicating with me. I don't think I ever recovered from the experience of wearing Bill's name and learning the little bit I know about him. I've read the information about the return of his "remains" and about the incident itself. Other than that, I know so very little, and to be quite honest, I don't know what I am entitled to know.Thank you for contacting me, and I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely,Karey Billingsley" Her email is GammaSprite@aol.com. Please put Bill's name in the subject line so she doesn't delete you as "spam" :>))) Always there four you guys-Gently

Mr.Observer, for your reading pleasure??????? There is a book out called: Redneck Nation: How The South Really Won The War....it`s written by Michael Graham........................Format: Hardcover, 224pp Pub. Date: October 2002 Publisher: Warner Books, Incorporated Barnes & Noble Sales Rank: 9,990........... ABOUT THE BOOK................ From the Publisher.............. Forget the mint juleps and the debutante balls, for every slack-jawed yokel who swears he saw The Lizard Man out by the dump, there's a failed televangelist with a family full of hare-lips holding a position as lofty as, say, the President of the United States. Because it's America that's ever more like the South, says Graham, not the other away around. Wafting up from the Mason-Dixon line and spreading like kudzu, redneckery has been absorbed from Bangor to Baha, he claims. The only real difference between Brooklyn and Birmingham is that you can't get a gun rack in a Trans Am.............. Author Biography: Michael Graham spent six years on the national comedy club circuit opening for performers like Jerry Seinfeld and Robin Williams, then spent the next six years as a Republican political consultant. Graham has been a frequent guest on Politically Incorrect and Hardball with Chris Matthews, and he currently hosts an afternoon drive-time talk show on Clear Channel's AM 570 WTNT in Washington, DC. From The Critics Chris Matthews Graham is the funniest political observer in the country... Florence King ...An adroit and devastating cultural analysis with at least one laugh on every page... Bill Maher ...dispels the Southern stereotype. Perfect for reading in bed with your sister. Tucker Carlson "I can't remember the last time I read a political book as witty and incisive...It was like potato chips: I couldn't stop... John Shelton Reed ...will make you laugh: I guarantee it. He'll make you angry, too — sometimes at him, but...most important, he'll make you think................ Customer Reviews Number of Reviews: 1 Average Rating: John, a New Texan, January 31, 2003, America - the Redneck Nation This book is great. It reminds me of P.J.O'Rourke's best. The author is a stand-up comic, and GOP advisor, from South Carolina. This book is at once an indictment of the South (nepotism, NASCAR, fire and brimstone religion, and irrationality), but also defends the South to a degree, and basically says that the North has taken on many of the South's bad ideas (like viewing people primarily based on their race, not on their character). In a section on religion, the author says, "The North believes in Darwin [science], the South believes in Satan". When I see the government promoting race-based admissions and TV programs based on sheer irrationality, and I see nepotism and corruption at work, and NASCAR as the number one spectator sport in America, and irrationality, and dumbing-down, and fast food, and weird mysticism, I know that America is "A Redneck Nation".

Charlie Daniels...... aka........Charlie Daniels Band....... A talented and showy fiddler, Charlie Daniels and his band fuse hardcore country with a hard-edged southern rock boogie and blues. The group -- which has had a rotating cast of musicians over the years -- has always been known for their instrumental dexterity, but they were also notorious for their down-home, good-old boy attitude; in the early '80s they became a virtual symbol of conservative country values. Daniels and his band experienced the height of their popularity at the end of the '70s and early '80s, but they remained a popular concert attraction well into the '90s. Charlie Daniels was born in October 28,1936 and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, playing fiddle and guitar in several bands during his teenage years. At the age of 21, he decided become a professional musican, assembling an instrumental rock & roll combo called the Jaguars. The group landed a recording session for Epic Records in 1959 with Bob Johnson, who would later become Columbia Records' leading folk and country producer. The record didn't receive much attention, but the band continued to play and Daniels continued to write songs. One of his originals, "It Hurts Me," was recorded by Elvis Presley in 1963. By the late '60s, it had become clear that the Jaguars weren't going to hit the big time, so Johnson recommended to Daniels that he move to Nashville to become a session musician. Daniels followed the advice and he became one of the most popular fiddlers in Nashville. He played on several Bob Dylan albums -- Nashville Skyline, Self Portrait, New Morning, and Dylan as well as Ringo Starr's 1970 record Beaucoups of Blues. He also became part of Leonard Cohen's touring band in the late '60s and produced the Youngbloods' Elephant Memory album around the same time. Daniels cut an album for Capitol Records in the early '70s which was ignored. In 1972, he formed the Charlie Daniels Band, using the southern rock of the Allman Brothers as a blueprint. The band comprised Daniels (lead guitar, vocals, fiddle), lead guitarist Don Murray, bassist Charlie Hayward, drummer James W. Marshal, and keyboardist Joe DiGregorio. The formula worked and in 1973 they had a minor hit with "Uneasy Rider," which was released on Kama Sutra Records. In 1974, they released Fire on the Mountain, which became a gold record within months of its release, thanks to the Top 40 country hit "Texas; " the album would eventually go platinum Saddle Tramp, released in 1976, was nearly as successful, going gold. Throughout the mid-'70s, the Charlie Daniels Band pursued a southern rock direction. They were moderately successful, but they never had a breakthrough hit either on the pop or country charts. By the late '70s, Daniels sensed that the audience for southern rock was evaporating, so he refashioned the band as a more straightforward country band. The change paid off in 1979 when the single "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" became a number one hit, crossing over into the pop charts, where it hit number three. The song was named the Country Music Association's Single of the Year and helped its accompanying album, Million Mile Reflections, become a multi-platinum success. Daniels wasn't able to follow "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" with another blockbuster single on the country charts, ironically, but he had several rock crossover successes in the years following the success of Million Mile Reflections -- Full Moon (1980) went platinum and 1982's Windows went gold. Although he continued to sell respectably throughout the '80s, he didn't have a big hit until 1989's Simple Man, which went gold. In the '90s, his records failed to chart well, although he remained a popular concert draw..........................Fred Alvis...This is what I found on the web-site of Blue Hat Records, his recording label. He`s 66 years old, I didn`t think he was that old.

Robbie...I can relate with the "ice storm"....we had that big one in December down here in N.C. These pine trees would "break off" at the top, sounded exactly like a mortar round going off. And those "split seconds" of waiting for them to hit the ground or come thru the roof. That was really scary.....I`m still cleaning up the mess in the back yard. Good Luck Robbie

Well, I am alive and really tired. I've been without power for 3 going on 4 days now and no phone since Friday night. We had a bad ice storm and there were according to the paper about 162,000 people without power yesterday. I went to the rental store Friday morning and was the last person in line to get a generator, and it has been running since then. I've been trying to clean up the mess since Friday and only have about 1/8 of it done. A friend of mine came by and helped me on Saturday and Sunday. He doesn't have power either, but he also doesn't have a wood burning stove and his water heater is electric, so he has cold water. So he was glad to get a shower and have a warm place to take a dump. I took a bunch of pictures and will probably have them Thursday morning. I lost a lot of really big limbs and will have to take a couple of trees down. I had one big limb that cracked and went into the creek, but was still attached to the tree. The creek was backing up because everything that was floating in the creek was now catching on that limb. We had to cut the remainder of the limb off at the tree to get the whole thing down. We had to cut branches off and hook cable, rope, chain to the limb and pulled out with the truck. That was fun. The limbs are digging the lawn all up when i got them up over the edge of the creek. An electric truck from Rochester came by late yesterday and put my power cable back on the house. They had to splice the metal cable that holds the wire because that broke when it came down. . When the limbs started coming down, it sounded like incoming mortar rounds going off. I'm hoping i have power when i get home today and maybe i can take the generator back tomorrow morning. Only good thing about it is i will have more than enough wood for this winter. The weather man is now calling for 3 to 6 inches of snow starting tonight some time. Hope everyone else is doing ok. Rob

I was just watching the BBC World News this afternoon, I watched a music performer named Yusuf Islam, he perform a song called " Peace Train". It sounded like a song I had heard at a diffrent "time and era".......then it dawned on me.......Yusuf Islam use to be Cat Stevens..... he embraced Islam years ago......amazing. Then they showed John Mellencamp performing a song off his new CD.... It`s a old Woody Guthrie protest song from the 60`s, on it John Mellencamp has changed the words to fit the times. Then they had Charlie Daniels....the original "Long Haired Country Boy".....sing his song.....I always loved Charlie...he supported us Nam vets when it still "wasn`t cool" to support us. I bought his "live" CD from 2001 last year.....Charlie does a nice extended version of " Still In Saigon" on it. But I will always love Charlies first hit song "Uneasy Rider". Strange how the music always reflect the times.

Entitlement gone crazy......... By Rush Limbaugh............. I think the vast differences in compensation between the victims of the September 11th casualty, and those who die serving the country in uniform, are profound. No one is really talking about it either because you just don't criticize anything having to do with September 11th. Well, I just can't let the numbers pass by because it says something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country............. If you lost a family member in the September 11th attack, you're going to get anaverageof$1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million....................... If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable. Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry. And there's a payment of $211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments come to a screeching halt. Keep in mind that some of the people that are getting an average of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million are complaining that it's not enough. We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization asking for the same deal that the September 11th families are getting. In addition to that, some of the families of those bombed in the embassies are now asking for compensation as well........... You see where this is going, don't you?........... Folks, this is part and parcel of over fifty years of entitlement politics in this country. It's just really sad................. Every time when pay raise comes up for the military they usually receive next to nothing of a raise. Now the green machine is in combat in the Middle East while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low rent housing........... However our own U.S. Congress just voted themselves a raise, and many of you don't know that they only have to be in Congress one-time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month and most are now equal to be millionaires. If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7 you may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people who placed you in harms way receive a pension of $15,000 per month............ I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join ranks before they start cutting out benefits and lowering pay for our sons and daughters who are now fighting................ "When do we finally do something about this?"................. If this doesn't seem fair to you, it is time to forward this to as many people as you can.

A large group of Iraqi soldiers are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a sand dune. "One United States Marine is better than ten Iraqis!" The Iraqi commander quickly sends 10 of his best soldiers over the dune, whereupon a gun battle breaks and continues for a few minutes, then silence. The voice then calls out "One United States Marine is better than one hundred Iraqis!" Furious, the Iraqi commander sends his next best 100 troops over the dune and instantly a huge firefight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again silence. The American voice calls out again "One United States Marine is better than one thousand Iraqis!" The enraged Iraqi Commander musters one thousand fighters and sends them across the dune. C annons, rockets and machine guns ring out as a huge battle is fought. Then silence. eventually one wounded Iraqi fighter crawls back over the dune and with his dying words tells his commander, "Don't send any more men, it's a trap. There's two of them!"

Good Evening Flight!!!! I just got back home last night from Ohio. First of all...thank all of you so much for your concern and condolences for my family. My mother is doing much better and is back home being her normal self. Man...so much going on......Gently....Thank you for your prayers that was very honorable of you to do that for ME and my family and I hope your father is doing much better... Kim LaVoie congrats on your new granddaughter, your making me feel OLD....being that you`re 2 years younger than me...LOL...Fred Alvis...haven`t heard back from your son yet...but no need to worry about you.....with that young Aussie lady and you are doing fine I`m sure. Marky Mark....I hope Dee is doing better with her health problems...if not ...get her to one of those Dayton hospitals. While at home...I had the pleasure of sitting with my mother alone and having one of those "mother and son" moments of conversation. Mom ask at one point," How`s your Viet-Nam buddies on that computer thing"? I couldn`t lie to my mother....she knows me to well....But I went on to tell her of my ups and downs and opinions, arguements and me being me. Mom look at me and said," Fred, you expect to much from people, you`ve done that all your life". "Can`t you just be happy with who you are and stop trying to change other people. I had to take that to heart..... I still listen to what she has to say about life....almost 40 years in the "bar business"...she`s got a PHD in life....she`s seen it all come down the pike. Yes we ALL need serious healing from the past and the present..... we need serious healing from the vibrations of anger and fear and the over-the-top rantings of mine about the war. It`s come a time for me to behave with compassion and respect and dignity. If I was wrong about not wanting this war.....I`d rather be wrong if it makes this a better world for all of us to live in. I can live with that!!!!!!! Again....thanks so much for the respect of my family in troubled times.

I also haven't been posting much, lately. I just bought a mobile home, and have been busy moving. ABOUT THE WAR COVERAGE: Something was bothering me about the news coverage of the action in Iraq. We've seen plenty from our own war, but this seemed different, and I couldn't figure it out until just today: Iraq is the gawd-damnedest ugly country I've ever seen! Where we had beautiful green jungles and such in Vietnam, about he only color you see in Iraq is shades of brown. No wonder there are so many idiots in the mid-east willing to commit suicide bombings: I would too if I had to live there.

(snow for the next few days :( Fred A. Happy times ahead, I hope. Gale, I'd like to get my vett out and run with the tops open, right now it would be a good way to get frostbite!!! I used to run an old Norton, I'd ride it year round. I'm getting to an age where anything below 75 is grounds for a day inside!!! Shorty, it's good to see your post..right on!! I'd like to see Chico again, along with Stanley. I know Dave Powers tried to find him, no luck....maybe someday..

This is funny. A) Lost Dad A small boy was lost at a large shopping mall. He approached a uniformed policeman and said, "I've lost my dad!" The cop asked, "What's he like?" The little boy replied, "Beer and women with big tits." Paul Pelland, Night Hawk

I don't get on this site very much cause of some people, (please let me explain). I served in Nam in parts of 68, 69, 70, 71,and72. With B Troop 7/17 Cav, (Ruthless Riders), 129th,(Gobra), 170th A.H.C.(Buccaneer) guns. My other two units have sites to. I have fiends on all sites that are dieing from agent orange, I have it too,not dieing but have it bad. My point, I have things on my mine as do we all, so way should I get on the 129th site (only one where people are rude)and listen to all the bull when I hear it every day at school or in groups. This is a site where we all are one for one reason, to keep ones menory's of nam and the people we serve with alive, yes you all that served in the 129th weather with one or more, that chat on this site. I know a lot of you, I remember the good the bad, and looking death in the face with most of you more then once. I lost the same fiends as you. So what makes some of you so hi and mighty and talk like we are in a bar. Lighten up and think before writing. If you have something bad to say send a private e-mail to them, i sure don't what to hear your stupidity. I get on here to see how ol friends are doing. People like Vega, Powers. La Joi, and many others. I talk to prowers, vega and others. Let's all work toward that Brotherly love you all talk about. I am no better than you and you no better than me. I will not get back on to this site untill you grown men can act like a VIET NAM VET,PROUND, not with sarcastic overtones. Same are saying, good riddens, but i only have one thing to say to you," Leave the fighting to our fighting men, not on my site." Howard Does anyone know the where abouts of Chico Smith or Stanly (Love Dog ) Roberts? Please let me know, thank you. Also talk more to other people from different times than you and share your friend ship with all of the 129th.

Here's the plan: 1) The US will apologize to the world for our interference" in their affairs, past &present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini and the rest of them 'good old boys'. We will never "interfere" again.............................................................. 2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No more sneaking through holes in the fence..................................... 3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of who or where they are. France would welcome them.................. 4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit. No one from a terrorist nation would be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself, don't hide here. Asylum would not ever be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers................................................ 5) No "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a "D" and it's back home baby...................................... 6) The US will make a strong effort to become self sufficient energy wise. This will include developing non polluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while................. 7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else................................................ 8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not "interfere". They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides' most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if any anyway........................................... 9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an island some place. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, it would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens....................................................................... 10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer.................................................................... 11) And lastly bring back the manufacturing from our country, curtail the cheap imports from all over the world and put the middle class back to work in our country............... Now, ain't that a winner of a plan..................................................

I do not know who XXXXXXXXXXXXX and so forth is but if he would look in April 2003 V.F.W. page 11 he would see that Bush Administration proposed budget for VA care represents a 10.6 % increase, or $2.7 billion , from last year budget. It is the largest increase ever requested for VA by an Administration.

Supporting the Troop The Republican majority on the House Budget Committee has just rammed through a resolution that would cut $844 million from veterans' medical care for next year. (Yet somehow, the robbing-Peter-to-pay-Paul Republicans have already come up with $900 million handy to give to Dick Cheney's old company Halliburton and a few other big Republican sugar daddies for the post-war reconstruction of Iraq.) Over the next ten years, the Republican changes would cut $24.7 billion -- billions with a "b" -- for veterans' medical care, disability compensation and other benefits. In other words: at the very moment men and women in the armed forces are being sent into military action, the Republicans back home are cutting their current and future benefits -- including payments to their families, should they be killed in action. "Is there no shame?" asks Edward Heath, national commander of the Disabled American Veterans. Stewart Nusbaumer of Veterans Against the Iraq War observes that everyone, even those who oppose the war, supports the troops at time of need -- everyone save House Republicans. These cuts are far from the first slap at veterans in the maniacal drive to extend tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans, people whose sons don't generally serve in the military. Veterans groups have a webpage through which one can thank the Republican Speaker of the House for his fine support of our troops.

Reality Check Someday, when the war is over, or grinding away on the inside pages of our newspapers, we'll again hear how there's a "crisis" in Social Security, a "crisis" in Medicare. But now, while there's still time, a truly telling reality check, courtesy of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities: President Bush has told Congress the government can and should surrender, via feed-the-rich tax cuts, a sum more than three times the size of projected "shortfalls" in Social Security. The President is proposing a loss of future revenues that in fact is larger than the projected shortfalls in Medicare and Social Security combined. And he says we can do this on top of shelling out for land war in the Middle East. (And even though hundreds of American economists, including ten American Nobel laureates, have declared it won't help the economy.) Think of what this means. It means that, according to President Bush –- indeed, to all of the Republicans supporting his tax-giveaway agenda -- there is no real crisis in Social Security and Medicare. None, at any rate, that couldn't be solved by rejecting the latest monster tax cut. Because if there's really money for that sort of a giveback, then there's no reason why it couldn't be spent instead on Social Security and Medicare. The Republicans insist they like these programs; but these are the "she doth protest too much" noises of an employer who says he wants an employee to stay -- even as he regularly and steadily reduces his salary, while giving showy bonuses to his colleagues. The numbers speak for themselves: President Bush and the Republicans have to explain how a $10 trillion deficit in Social Security and Medicare over the next 75 years is a somber crisis, while a tax cut over that period of from $12 trillion to $14 trillion is a cakewalk. The answer is obvious: The Republicans simply don't like Social Security and Medicare, and are working behind the scenes to gut them. It's a story as old as grumpy wealth bitching about F.D.R.'s New Deal.
