Flight. Hi. to everyone. Great to hear that Major Jones has been located. It would be great if he could make the reunion next year. This week the 129th Cobra Guns will fly again. Tomorrow night I will fly to Seattle and meet up with Curt Classen. He has some how managed to line me up with a Harley Dyna Wide Glide, and we will ride out to Montana to see Tony McDermott. Curt and I flew together a lot in the 129th. The last time we flew together was on the big bird, comming back to the land of the big PX. If your ears are ringing this weekend, it will be because we will be talking about you. This is going to be a great month. A week after I get back from Seattle, will be the reunion up at Kokomo. WOW! What a month. You all take care, and I will post you on the trip. COBRA 34, OUT

Getting a good respond on shirt sizes. They are still working on the art work and once aproved then the screen pattern. Trying to get about 12.00 per shirt that includes shipping. If I supply the shirts then the price comes down. StiLL have to find shipping packages. And find out on cost of shipping. Iam not doing this for a money making project. So that why I want the cost to be as low as possible. I don't know if Mark can scan his shirt on the homepage or not. I gave the first ones away at the Dallas vhcma reunion. And to Bernie in Denver. But all I can say That it will have the 129th patch that you see when you first pull up this homepage. The Bulldog & Cobra looks alot better . I will keep everyone posted on the progress being made. They seem a reputable outfit & have a catalogue where you may obtain all sorts of memorabilia. Donnie R., good to hear from you again & I hope everyone on the eastern seaboard has gotten or is getting through the storms OK. I also don't know if you all know it or not but the US Postal service has issued some collectors stamps series. #7 in a series of 10 is called the turbulent 60's. MY wife got one as she collects stamps. One is of our old friends 11b10's jumping out of a huey. there is one of woodstock, the first footprint on the moon, etc, etc. You can get them at you local Post office for about $4. CREW CHIEF FOR A DAY

LAST WEEKEND MY WIFE ( DEE ) AND I ATTENDED A VETS RALLY IN KOKOMO INDIANA. WE SET OUT ON THE NEW "257" ( OUR SOFTAIL ) EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. A BEAUTIFUL 90 MILE RIDE THERE. UPON ARRIVING WE WENT TO THE CAMP SITE THAT, ALL OF OUR FRIEND, MR. RON PAYE OF THE 129TH, HAD SUCURED FOR US.THE LZ WAS FULL OF VETS FROM ALL WARS, BUT MOSTLY VIETNAM. 101ST CAV., AMERICAL, 1ST MARINES AND ON AND ON...UNIT FLAGS WERE FLYING EVERYWHERE. AN AWESOME SIGHT TO SEE. THEY HAD AN OPERATIONAL UH-1H AT LZ KOKOMO FROM THE HELICOPTOR MUSEUM OUT OF NORWALK OHIO. THE "992"............ALL DAY LONG THIS SHIP WOULD BE BUZZIN' THE CAMP AT LOW LEVEL. AN AWESOME SIGHT FOR ME TO SEE AND IMAGINE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT MY BROTHER AND ALL OF YOU SAW AND THOUGHT ABOUT A LONG TIME AGO. RON PAYE AND DEE AND I, WALKED DOWN TO THE FLIGHT LINE TO SIGN UP FOR A RIDE. TURNS OUT THAT THEY WERE BOOKED FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. SO WE TOOK A MISSION FOR THE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. WE STAYED THERE AND SHOT THE BULL WITH THE PILOTS BECAUSE SOME OF THEM HAD BEEN AT LANE WHILE THEIR TOUR IN VIETNAM. RON PAYE,STRUCK UP A WARM FRIENDSHIP WITH THE PILOTS, BEING AN OLE SNAKE PILOT HIMSELF FROM THE 129TH. I COULD SEE RON TALKING VERY SERIUOSLY TO THEM AT TIMES AND BRUSHED IT OFF AS SOME DEEP VIETNAM TALK.
AS WE STARTED TO HEAD BACK TO OUR CAMP THAT NIGHT, ONE OF THE PILOTS AHD THE CREW CHIEF OF THE "992" CAME UP TO ME AND SAID..." BE AT THE FLIGHT LINE AT 0800 TO HELP PULL A PRE/FLIGHT ON THE BIRD. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I HAD A HARD TIME SLEEPING THAT NIGHT BECAUSE I WAS SO EXCITED THAT THEY HAD ASK ME TO BE AT THE FLIGHT LINE. EVEN IF I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT UPON ARRIVAIL THERE. I FIGURED FROM A DISTANCE ,I WOULD BE ABLE TO WATCH THEM DO THE PRE/FLIGHT THE NEXT DAY.
I WOKE UP SERVERAL TIMES DURING THE NIGHT LOOKING TO SEE IF DAY LIGHT HAD BROKEN YET. I DIDN'T WANT TO BE LATE DOWN AT THE FLIGHT LINE. SOON AS THE SUN BROKE I WAS UP AND READY..0600.......SUCKED DOWN A FEW CUPS GO JUICE...RON GOT UP AND HANDED ME A PAIR OF FLIGHT PANTS AND THEY FIT PERFECT. OK SO WE HEAD TO THE FLIGHT LINE.....UPON ARRIVAIL THERE, I WAS MET BY THE CREW CHEIF AND THE PILOT THAT TOLD ME TO REPORT TO THE FLIGHT LINE THE NIGHT BEFORE. THE CREW CHIEF, MUSTASH RAY, SAID TO ME.....OK YA READY???....AND I'M THINKING.....SURE , I'M READY, I'LL JUST WATCH FROM BACK HERE....MUSTASH RAY SAYS TA ME...WELL, LETS GO AND WE WALKED OUT TO THE UH-1H.....RAY SAID....I AM GONNA SHOW, AND WALK YOU THREW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR BROTHER DID EVERY MORNING ON HIS SHIP WHILE IN NAM. WE STARTED OUT AT CHECKING THE BATTERY CONNECTIONS FOR CORRSION, AND ALL THE AVIONINCS FOR FRAYED WIRES, AND ALL THE LINES IN THE NOSE BUBBLE TO THE GAGES FOR LEAKS. THEN I WAS ON TOP OF THE BIRD CHECKING STUFF OUT IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, MOUNTS, BALL JOINTS TO THE CONTROLLS. WE THEN CHECKED UNDER THE BIRDS AT THE SKIDS TO MAKE SURE THE RUBBER MOUNTS AND THE BRACKETS WERE ALL THERE. RAY SAID IF ONE WAS NOT, WE WOULD HAVE ONE HELL OF A VIBRATION IN FLIGHT AND POSSIBLY A HARD LANDING. WE PULLED ALL THE INTAKE VENTS AND CLEANED THEM, FLIPED OPEN THE TAIL ROTOR DRIVE SHAFT COVERS AND CHECKED ALL THE BEARINGS AND MOUNTS AND CLAMPS. WE CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL IN THE , IS IT CALLED THE 42 BOX OR 32 BOX?. I'M SORRY I FORGET THE ANGLE. BUT THE BOX BACK TO THE TAIL ROTOR. WE TAPPED THE BOTTOM OF THE TAIL BOOME TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DIDN'T LEAVE ANY THING IN THERE. WE THEN MOVED TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT AND CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE 4 TAIL BOOME NUTS WERE ALL THERE AND SUCURE, AND THE CONTROLL CABLES. WE GOT UNDERNEATH AND I CRAWLED UP IN THE "HELL HOLE" TO CHECK FOR FRAYED WIRES AND LEAKS....MUSTASH RAY SAID THERE WERE ALL WAYS LEAKS IN THE HELL HOLE. NOT TO WORRY. WE CHECKED THE BOTTOM FOR FUEL LEAKS IN THE BLATERS AO. AND MADE SURE THAT THE FRONT AND BACK FUEL PUMPS WERE OPERATIONAL. WE CHECKED THE TRAMISSION OIL THREW THE LITTLE SIGHT GLASS AT THE GUNNERS WELL. THEN MY WIFE AND I CLIMBED IN THE PILOTS SEATS AND WERE GIVEN A TOUR OF ALL THE STICKS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS, AND ALL THE GAGES. AT ONE POINT A PILOT CAME OUT AND SAID THAT HE HAD FOLKS THAT WANTED TO FLY. MUSTASH RAY SAID JUST WAIT UNTIL HE WAS FINISHED TALKING TO ME. WHAT A NICE GUY HE WAS. WHEN WE WERE FINISHED RAY SAID....MARK, WE JUST DID ALL THE THINGS THAT YOUR BROTHER DID EVERYDAY BEFORE HIS SHIP WOULD LAUNCH FOR THE DAY.

MY DEAR FRIENDS OF THE 129TH.........I SPENT AN HOUR THIS LAST SUNDAY MORNING FEELING AND SEEING SOME OF THE THINGS THAT LARRY DID. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT WAS VERY EMOTIONAL FOR ME.
WE WERE THE SECOND MISSION OUT THAT DAY. NOT ONLY DID I GET TO HELP PRE/FLIGHT THE SHIP THAT DAY, I ALSO SAT IN THE VERY SAME AREA THAT LARRY DID. LEFT REAR SEAT. THE CE HOLE. OH THE SIGHTS I SAW AND THE THOUGHTS THAT RACED THREW MY MIND AS WE WERE IN FLIGHT. WE BUZZED THE CAMP SIGHT AND THEN CLIMBED TO 1,000 FT. BREAKING LEFT AND RIGHT. THEN WE DOVE INTO A WOODED AO AND WERE FLYING AT TREE TOP LEVEL. I SWEAR THE TOPS OF SOME OF THE TREES WERE NICKING THE SKIDS. NEXT THING I KNEW WE WERE BREAKING LEFT AND RIGHT FOLLOWING A RIVER. ONE SECOND I SAW THE SKY, NEXT SECOND THE RIVER AND THE TREES WERE ZIPPING BY MY FEET.

I WONT TO THANK RON PAYE FOR ARRAINGING SUCH A THING FOR ME. Hey Smitty....

Saw your posting about a trip to Las Vegas next month, I think it's great if you can get to see Festus. I spent a few days with him last spring which was the first time talking to him in 26 years. Knowing you will be in Las Vegas I would sure like to drive over and meet you as well, I am only about a 4 hour drive. Heck I might even want to make a trip on my new ride. I would love to see Festus again. I have told him about this site and am trying to get him up on the computer thing so he can get in touch with everyone. Will see if the month will allow for a get away.

Take care....Barry

Barry, Glad to & I'll be at the Excalibur Reg under my own name of course instead of Smitty or John Smith or whatever so I should be easy to Find Oct 23-31st. I have a kind of new dilemma. Ron paye sent me another 129th patch that is really cool. It must be older than the other one & I don't know which to do . What I think i should do is send the scanned patch to Mark & have him send it out to everyone & see which one you might like?? So Mark, here it comes.

Later, Smitty

Flight, haven't checked in for a while. Am still looking for anyone who flew guns from mid 68 to mid 69. I have contacted Chip McGregor, I was his gunner, Ted "Gus" Gustavson, and WO Doug Marr (had dinner with him a couple of times). I don't know how many of you were there at that time but I was the gunner on cobra 010 until about March of
of 69. After that I was Sr. Flight Operations Specialist under Lt. Dan Stout. I finally got an early out in June of 69. Would really like to hear from anyone during that time frame. I would also like to put in for a couple of the T-shirts (XXL) and a unit patch. Has anyone came across the old cobra patches that Shelby designed for us? Would like to see and have one of those, too. All my "stuff" got pitched by one of my ex's. Again, really love this site and also would like to see a 129th reunion. Later bro's. Clear right and coming through!

HI HISS AND PISSERS!!!!......sorry.... but it has been a few days for me to check in. Got a bits tied up here at home, but have got things cleared up here. Now down to the orders for the day. First...hey Art C. Good ta see ya again. Thanks for updating us on your new e-mail address.....HEY GALE B...WELCOME HOME BROTHER!!!!......Jim W. ( Smitty )...OK man...I see what ya said up above. I guess that is not the way to show pix in here. Which brings up the dilema that Smitty is having with the 129th Patches that we all are thinking about having reproduced. Problem is, we have come across 3 different styles of the 129th Patch. I assume that it has to due with the time of the tour, or possibly who made the patches at that time for the 129th. Before Smitty orders 250 of them, he wants to know which one of the styles of the patch that we want. I will try and mass e-mail a image out to all of you tonight of the 3 different ones....
BTW.....did any of you guys get my mass e-mail that I sent out the other day about the new 129th WEB page????..if not..here is what it said.....
.There is a new 129th Home Page up and running.I am sorry that it took so long for me to introduce it to you all. ......BUT..it still has some snafoos in it..for instance..the new page has a LOG BOOK.BUT, it IS NOT.I repeat.IS NOT operational yet...so dont try and write anything in it because nothing will show up. We are working on that problem as I speak...Plus...the pix are not in any order and do not have captions with them. Again.we are working on it all. On the memory Page of the new page we are trying to make it so the crash reports of the Tail Stock numbers for the birds that went down will be able to be read just by clicking on the number.........and on and on and on......so visit the new sight if you want at this addy
www.bright.net/~fourfour/
it does have some nice pix on it........but it is still UNDER CONSTRUCTION.....

Hello my friends! Sorry it's been so long, but

i've been in the throws of changing my life, which for the most part is now settled. I move to Milwaukee in 2 wks.

Ron amd Mark-what can I say-I'm a s***. I didn't make it Indy and i never got back to you Ron for more info. I feel so bad-I will make it up to you though, count on that! Let me know how it was or my imagination is going to get the better of me.

Nice to read that all is well, with the exception of the passing of several friends.

Curt-what happened with Sturgis--and thanks for all the e-mails and bike photos! What a machine! I also received some e-mails of the bike from other than you and saw Tom Shaws' name on it-you are to cool. I'm glad you're my friend.

Bill and Alex-you guys are like the energizing bunny-you just keep going: shirts and books! do you have any idea how many people you are going to make happy? And Charlotte-the state will be over-populated that weekend.

Sorry to read about the VA lay-offs-geez! I'll check out the VA in Milwaukee and put in some volunteer hours with our Vet friends there. Its the least i can do.

anyway, all is well. I'll check in soon.

Smiles and long hugs to all of you-Gently
