Hello Flight, been trying to get back to some kind of normal life here but have been busy going to the VA for test again. After years now it appears I am still getting nowhere so I don't think I will be able to make it to St Louis. It is almost too painful to just drive into town and home with my back. Than my foot is still like having a blow torch pointed on it. So it appears I am going to be staying close to home this summer. Everyone take care.

Dennis F. Thanks for logging in. Bill Shilleto "did" log in some time ago. I was able to call him. My timing was off (as usuaLL. As I recall it was in the evening-he was having supper w/his family. I cut it short. Anyway, I tried calling him But for some reason or other I belive he moved/relocated somewhere. I haven't been able to contact him. I believe it was the first sorty we did on the Korean FSB-the ROK firebase was "socked in". WE had C-rats on board. The Peter Pete was Lt Jones. Bill did an "over head". When we came out of the clouds, Bill figured it just right. 426 was right over theFSB>The ground was coming fast too much speed. He was over FSB LZ. Bernie, the two South Korean roks & me started "dumping" the C-Rat boxes out to loose weight. Bill started pulling on the collective, as the ground kept comin' up, Bill put the cyclic stick to the left & 426 barely missed the Lz. Bill kept his wits & our butts safely out. Unfortunately he had "overtorqued". We went back to Lane. The "TI's" checked it out. 426 was Ok-no damaged. We went back picked up another & finished up for the day. I had to put in for another doorgunner seat. For some reason or other My seat had a "hole" torn out .

I will be out of touch with a computer on April 27, so I want to Remind all of WO Claud Strother and his copilot 1Lt Tom Shaw. Claud and Tom crashed with Bruno and Bernie at the An Khe Pass. Claud was my roommate friend and fellow Texan. Claude was going on RR the next day to Hawaii. Rather than take the whole day off on the 27th he asked to split a flight with WO Bill Shillito. Claude was a great guy as was Tom. If Bill Shillito is out there don't feel guilty for splitting the flight. Claud did it because he loved to fly. April 27, 1972. Luckily we still have Bruno and Bernie. Claud you have the aircraft.

Dennis, good morning buddy. It does not surprise me that there "are" gators over in East Texas. The state line is the Red River. It separates Texas from Louisiana. That river probably is full of those things. The Big Thicket National Preserve is also in that area. I suspect that there are more gators in east Texas than one would think. For some reason or other I don't think that the gator "thing' isn't put out in the news media more frequently.Anyway, thanks for the commo. Be carefull out there. Later - Bulldog 426 is Otta Here

BRUNO, Up here in Bradord, Pa., there was an article circulating about a 23 foot alligator taken out of Lake Conroe above Houston. The pics made it look gigantic. I couldn't buy the size, so looked up Texas Parks and Wildlive numbers and called an office in Jasper, Tx and talked to an officer who knew the story. The gator was actually 12'1" and the pic was altered. Another pic with it showed the supposed gator in the water with a deer in its jaws. The officer said that the pic was real, but that pic had actually come from S. Carolina and the gator was just over 11 ft.

I know I don't show up too often so I don't know if this has been put up before. There's a place called the National Viet Nam War Museum. Website is - nationalvnwarmuseum.com. It's an excellant place. Their gift shop has many interesting items. I just bought a bunch of bumper stickers with the S. Vietnamese flag colors with a Huey superimposed on it. Talked with guy that runs the place. A real nice guy. I got the DVD's they sell. "Wings Over Wolters" turns out to be offficial gov't films about Wolters. I found some parts to be funny. The other DVD, about Viet Nam Helicopter pilots is very interesting It's narrated by Harrison Ford. I recommend that one for sure. This is a pretty nice site that pays tribute to us and guys like us. Stop by and if possible, give 'em some support and/or buy a few trinkets from the gift shop to help 'em stay in business. "Rotor in the green, 60 knots, we're goin' in" Scooter

My 129th family, This was published in the American Legion magazine. I thought I would pass it along to those of you who haven't seen it. We hope to see some "newbies" at LZ St Louie in June. Gale Why Veterans Reunite: " I know why men who have been to war yearn to reunite. Not to tell stories or look at old pictures. Not to weep. Comrades gather because they long to be with the men who once acted at their best; men who suffered and sacrificed; who were stripped of their humanity. I did not pick these men. They were delivered by fate and the military. But I know them in a way I know no other men. I have never given anyone such trust. They were willing to guard something more precious than my life. They would have carried my reputation, the memory of me. It was part of the bargain we all made, the reason we were so willing to die for one another. As long as I have memory, I will think of them all, every day. I am sure that when I leave this world, my last thought will be of my family and my comrades...........Such good men"

Dennis, we saw the bit on 60 minutes last night. What I found interesting was that when they reconnected the intestine (duodenum??) in the formerly diabetic rats, the diabetes came back. And it's not due to the weight loss, because some of the people interviewed were off medication 4 days after surgery.

For any of you guys with Diabetes. Interesting story today on Yahoo News from 60 minutes about a link in treating Diabetes with Barriatric surgery. They found that somehow the process of disconnecting the small intestine from the stomach helped stablize diabetes.

BRUNO, Just scrolling back and saw the thing about gators in E. Texas. When I lived in Dallas in the early 90s they found one in White Rock Lake in the middle of Dallas. It was in the papers and talked about there being approximately 150 in Dallas County. I am sure that is up by now. Definitely gators on a line from Dallas to Galveston on east. Dave Powers, N.B. Forrest said that he killed 31 Yanks and had 30 horse shot out from him and that he was a horse ahead. Tough SOB. One of his own officers got mad at him and tried to shoot him, Forrest killed the man with a pen knife.

Hi all, I still want to make it but have been now trying to get a left hand gas pedal because of the pain in my foot. Talked to the VA and decided to get it fast I would pay for it myself for $400. Now they said I need certified to drive 1st so have spent past two weeks trying to get a human. The VA gives me some good pills as this morning the dog was going nuts barking and my wife was out of bed, I just rolled over & back to sleep as she said the pictures were shaking on the walls. Also have a mental eval @ the VA next week again. The Neuro doctor said I became adjatated when he wanted to put splints on my wrist for carpal tunnel. Maybe I was when I told him, setting in a wheelchair I was there to be able to walk again & my foot was on fire. The VA said I had carpal tunnel in 1986. Honestly the VA is the best example of Socielized Medicine as my next appt is in August. Well guys, you all take care..

I've "heard" that in East Texas towards the Louisiana state line there may be some Gators. I'm about 150 miles south on San Antonio. It's Semi-arid. Our average rain fall is about 17 inches per year. This year we're already in a drought- We "have not" recieved any rain since last August. No gators in South Texas.

Hey, I hope them guys from Texas show up again that was camped next to us...........they had all that free beer that they were passing out. I can't think of the name of that beer right now, but, they had cases & cases of it. I guess they all belonged to the same Legion & the beer distributor gave it to them to bring. Cool!!! Gale

Aloha all! I see this guy at the beach that said he was "head gunner" on a "superslick" out of Can tho from '69-'71. Have any of you ever heard of this configuration of a Huey? Evidently, it was a "slick" with four gunners. I'm not the most akamai (smart) person when it comes to aviation stuff outside of IIcorps, and haven't heard of these. I'd like to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, but he also told me he'd been shot down 14 times. Color me skeptical. My condolances to the friends and family of our lost airmen.

Today around noon it will be 36 years ago that David H. Stamper gave his live for his country and more so for the other members of his crew on Bulldog 915. God Bless, him and all of our 129th family. I am thinking today especially of Rick Heath my gunner and WO Robert "Bob" Guffy my copilot. I wish that I could talk with both someday. Luckily through this site I have hooked up with others such as Dave Powers, Rick Smith, Gary Woodward, Wayne Hagg, and most recently Augie Bailey. There is hope of talking with Rick and Bob someday. My thoughts are with all of you and I am proud to have served in the 129th.

Mark, your "Mum" is a grand lady. The way I look at music is ....if it makes someone smile, well it can't be that bad. Sometimes it's out of tune or out of key, but, if it brings back memories, let it be. I know I have my likes & dislikes, but, wouldn't it be awful boring iffen we were all alike? My brother & I used to play the accordian. My Dad just loved it. I still have it,but, haven't played in a "hunerd" years and if my Dad was with us today he wouldn't care if I hit some sour notes................

Mark that was a touching thought as you remember the little lady from England we have living with us. About half the time she calls me Reg and today was her birthday so she had calls from Australia, England, family and flowers arriving. It feels bad that by the time she went to bed she forgot any of it. I love it when the BBCA has a program she can watch & enjoy. Blimie, love her to death!

Let me just tell you what this Big Bad Marine ( the Biggest and Baddest ) did one day last week........... I went to visit my Mum at the joint one afternoon and they were having some entertainment in the activities room. So Mum and I go down there. They had 2 ladies , probably in the late 60,s there. One had a acoustic guitar and the other had a accordion. The guitar was out of tune and the lady that played the accordion hit quite a few sour notes. They both couldn't carry a note in a bucket either. I sat there and wonder how this Big Bad Marine was able to set here. I melted into a slop of sloop of tears because my 92 year old mother and I were having the time of our lives laughing and singing songs. mum's mind slips more each day and I am afraid that before she actually leaves this world she probably will not be here mentally the whole time. I am making every second spent with her count. I love her so much. She has the most beautiful smile I have ever laid my eyes upon and I tell her that everyday. Those of you who have met Mum can relate to this and probably those of you with mum's of your own in the same season of their lives can relate also. I am very glad that all of you and me will grow old together promise me that you'll take care of me when there time comes but just don't feed me stewed tomatoes after I have lost my mind. I can't stand them. But then, I wouldn't know anyways , would I?....................I love all of you.............always a brother.

Hi Gang!!.. First off, David, sorry to learn of your dads passing. My sincere condolences to you and your familey. I was long gone from Nam and the Army when he was in-country, so didn't know him, but still it is sad to loose another brother in arms! BNow for another sad part... Just talked to Ray on Messenger and he is not doing very well. Hi is in constant pain from a headache and has run out of pain pills. His problems seem to be ganging up on him and the VA don't seem to be making any headway in finding out what is wrong with him. I'd bet that if the Presidend and our Lawmakers were getting this kind of service, that there would be some changes made. Oh well, I am just thankful that I have not had to deal with them, at least not yet.. He says hello to you all again and that he don't get on the computer much now. He also says it would be nice if some of you that have Windows Messenger would get on as seeing and talking to you would be nice.. He still has plans for making it to St Louis and seeing us all there. Thats it for now.. Take care.. Love and Brotherhood.. Kal 67/68...>>>

Art took a break from working on crap to take to the courthouse in the morning from a doctor suing me. I had a subpoena served on him for court on the 18th and his attorney got it vatated calming I am just harrassing him for a bill that Workers Comp would have paid if they did the paperwork right. Meanwhile I again understand about the VA as they keep finding things wrong with me as I get worse, but not fixing anything. Doctors are all full of ****. I guess I will be going to try and get P&T soon because I have given up finding a fix with my foot on fire. Still we have to keep fighting if for no other reason to make them do their part.

Fred to solve to sleeping wrong, I went to Walmart and bought a 4inch Memory foam Mattress topper for my sleeper, Now no more pain or stiffness when I wake up. However, 2 things have happened at work for me. 1.Got my new truck 2008 KW t616. 2.Got a dedicated run instate, now home every night. Just run the store milk from Winterhaven Florida to Publix warehouse in Deerfield Beach FLorida. I have also found a way to keep up with the storage and maintenance on my RV. I let the Shop Manager and the Tire shop manager use it for a week each. now nit has been serviced and has new rear tires. Who says owning a RV has to be expensive. Still unsure if I can make St Louis cuz I am going to California in june for 2 weeks, time for 2nd grandbaby. Fred be safe and carefull out there the snowbirds are flocking back north and the think the middle lane is all their's. Also try putting the 129th decal in the lower window of the p[assenger door. Ken,I was fighting dead feet also.I do not use VA,I am Medicare because of over 20yrs svc in Military and over 74yrs of age.My feet are almost back to normal. My Dr ordered Elastic stockings.Which increase the blood circulation to feet and lower legs.I had a sore which was hard to heal on my toes. All healed up now. They sell thoes socks at most drug stores.

Hanio Jane as just came out and endorsed Ossama, whats his name, for president. That really surprised me as I thought she would be in Clintons corner. Just passing the info along. Going to take the Bud tour in St. Louis during the reunion. The one ,later in the day,as there are two tours offered. Told Susan I am solidly behind the "pizza in the 129th room" again, idea. Springs upward march is getting close to the Ohio river,so wont be long folks.

Ken, Susan, and I believe Smitty, both take Neuronten for nuroaphty. She has the "burning feet".Most folks cant understand unless the have been thru it.As you know, its more than just "my feet hurt". I think VA is overwhelmed and is starting to split at the seams. Our goverenment doesnt give them enough money, nor staff, for the job theyare demanded to do, by us.The general public has no understanding and think we are getting special treatment, for free, so whats the bitch? They think antime we hurt,we just run down and get checked out. With this downturn in the economy, more folks,as the age,are also joining the system.Politiciansdont give a crap.

Hi Guys, well understand the VA as my last neuro appt was a bust and my next one is in August. I still really want to make it to St Louis and am trying to narrow down the how to get the money and my medical situation. I told the doctor that my Rt foot feels like I am walking on a hot bed of colds, he just looked at me like he was lost. The VA system really gets messed up if you need something done. That was the forth time I have been to that clinic sense 2005, not ever the same doctor or did it last over ten minutes. Hay all take care.

Just got home.Art sorry buddy, got to Lagrange at 5 AM and they had a load waiting.Did a drop and hook, off and running back to Texas (Houston). From there to NJ,about 5 miles from NY city. I so detest driving in that area. Then got m load to come home out of Kearny NJ.Chuckle, picked up a fly as a hitch hiker somewhere along the way, hope he enjoys the cold. Susan is going to quit her job.The neuropathy( from chemo) has just gotten to bad.She just cant stand for long periods anymore, burns to bad.Getting diability for her is probably going to be a nightmare, even if we go thru me.I have to go to VA again tomorrow, Damn its great getting old.Ever get "sore" from sleeping wrong? How can you sleep wrong? Its so simple The matteres doesnt even come with instructions. you just lay down.Worse you can mess up is put our feet on the pillow and then its simply your feets raised up.Man, getting old is great.

Hello fellow Bite'n Strikers!!.. I just finished talking to Ray on Messenger and things aren't going well at all on his end!.. He says to say hello to everyone. He has to go in on the 10th for a cat scan as he has been having bad migrane headaches. He is getting real weak and having trouble doing about anything anymore. Gail is having problems too and is getting a heart monitor as well as problems with her throat and is getting a scope job on that. He is really sounding depressed and is still hoping to make it to St. Louis. As bad as it is to say, I feel the VA has really done a job on him. As long as he has been going there, I don't think they have helped him at all and he really has no idea as to what the problems are.. A sorry excuse for veterans care!!.. Oh well, live and learn.. I just hope it isn't too late and they get it straightened out. Well, enough of that!!.. The registration is in and reservations made and now all I have to do is wait for Saint Louis to happen and thats right around the corner. And, by the way, a room-mate has been found. Take care .. C U in St Louie.... Kal...>>>

Wink, thanks, I won't be flying down with the guys, gotta work. But Stickman says he'd love to see you. What's your phone number? And Gale, as one who is STILL enslaved by the very entity you've escaped...thhhppppptttt (that's SUPPOSED to be a raspberry at you). My MINIMUM age of retirement is 8 more years. Unless the stock market straightens up, and my thrift savings quits bouncing around, and starts headed up again, it won't be then, either... I'll wind up working 'til I'm 90.
